  1. Kind of mind boggling that this didn't come out last year. I'm impressed with Dunn on how he handled this.
  2. Alex Rios (he so dreamy - we'd have tequila and the go salsa dancing)
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) Wasn't he suspended for PEDs? I think that's why the Mets got rid of him. He looks great so far, but lets see how it goes once he's been around the league. Yes - he violated the mior league drug policy in 07 and signed with the Yankees in 08.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) He's good, he's honest, he's leading us to the playoffs. Book it. yeah - I hated him with the red sox - that stupid way he holds the bat - that intense look and grindiness - thought it was all for show. I'm coming around
  5. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) Not to nitpick, but it depends upon your time frame of "right now". If Sunday was an indication that Youkilis is healthy and out of his slump then Youkilis might be the better hitter "right now" If it bears otu than fine - but 1 game isn't a sufficient sample size. Plus I like that Beckham can run a bit.
  6. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Nothing wrong with it honestly. Best hitters gotta hit first and Beckham is my favorite player, but Youk is a better hitter. Gordon will do fine and hopefully continue his streak bringing some stability to the bottom of the line-up, hell, if Alexei and Dayan turn it on that is a brutal line-up 1-9. Youk is not a better hitter right now.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Only on Soxtalk would people complain about a guy with an OBP under .300 being moved from the 2 spot in the lineup. Well not to nitpick, but .303 - but more importantly .344 in June with an .804 OPS. But yeah move hime down to make room for the better hitter - Youk with stellar .310 obp and .630 OPS in June.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) Robin f***ing Ventura! What did Beckham do to deserve that? I mean Youk's stats still stink this year - albeit better than any other 3B option.
  9. Last year Paulie said they probably gave away some games last year because of the Ozzie chaos. This game was a classic example of one that would have been given away. BUT THIS IS A NEW YEAR!
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 27, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) 26-5 We had individual streaks within that stretch of 11-0 and 9-0. Sweeps were @ Pittsburgh, @ Washington, ATL (when the Braves were one of the best teams in the majors), LAA (4 game sweep) and the Royals. So five series sweeps in basically one month, including a 4 gamer. Of course, we won the first game against the Twins (high water mark) and proceeded to lose 3 in a row (July 16th-18th horror apocalypse starring Jenks, to later to be followed by Thornton/Thome). Feels good to have started this streak before bigtime interleague has started.
  11. AJ will replace Hawk when it's time unless he decides to go national.
  12. So is the Twins mystique dead or are we going to catapult them to a 30-5 stint where they take over the division? In other news: I would definately head to the Cell for PK Eyepatch Day.
  13. QUOTE (MAX @ May 21, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Did heyward show him up or something? If so, he should be hit. Did paulie? I highly doubt it, but I didn't get to see it. No one deserves it in the face anyway. Here's how I see it. Intent is irrelevant. He hit Konerko in the head. He has to be discouraged from being comfortable throwing that pitch for the rest of the game. The only way to achieve that is to respond in kind - throw the same type of pitch to one of their guys. If it hits him, so be it. This will always result in both teams getting warned, taking away the way inside corner for both pitchers. But you certainly can not let Smardja get the next turn. Unfortunately.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) You're joking. You have to be. Seriously, try saying s*** like that in your workplace, and see how that goes over. Its not about pussified, and everyone here but you and Marty realizes that its Joe who needs to grow up. And talk about being "pussified" - the guy can't say s*** like that to anyone in person of course, he's too afraid to, so he posts it via social media and he's gone before they know about it. Now that is "pussified". Those who use the term pussified is a great example of Cowley's target audience. He claims it's satire, but his followers aren't in on the supposed joke.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) If Cowley is suspended that is stupid. He's a f***ing sportswriter. Sportswriter's travel a lot and have opinions. People who dissent can call him out and put their opinion on twitter as well. He calls flite attendants ugly? Big f***ing deal. They can come back and say passengers who sleep with their mouths open like sportswriters are uglier. He rips the female pilot? Why can't somebody just come back and call him sexist and make their point? Somebody could point out that a lot of the medical personnel who treated him over his medical problem were uh, FEMALES. Intelligent, brilliant females. Fight back instead of being politically correct. Why should he be fired for bad humor??? If he threatens somebody's life and MEANS IT ... fine. he did notthing really wrong but represent himself like a sexist jerk. Those he offended can blast back, but fire him??? Grow up world. No one has mentioned the Ron Washington "Huggy Bear" tweets. I replied to those with "that's not racist at all". He responded 4 times to me starting off by saying since I'm a woman, I'm to dumb to understand and culminating with an dissertation of why he's not racist. I was not that offended but felt he should at least realize that most of the world would find his tweets racist. I know his act so I wasn't offended. I don't think firing for his recent tweets is that far off; but it's nothing new so it would be hypocritical for the ST to take that action simply because there is now a national audience.
  16. Since the Guillen family left town Cowley has no sources and he started playing a character. Then he started believing he was this character. Now he's trying to say it was satire. Might have started that way but now he lost control, Serves him right.
  17. Cowley has to be seeting at the credit Cooper has been getting for "fixing" Humber.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 02:37 AM) If you think Ozzie is (was) bad, what do you think of Ned Yost? Even in our worst years, Ozzie had the Sox with a decent record. He's one of the best managers in Sox history if not the best IMO. For 2005-2008 he was a very good manager. He has declined since then. Horrible in 2011.
  19. I'm starting to see a lot of on field positives since Ozzie left. At one point he was a good in game manager but he didn't prepare his team like Robin seems to. Ozzie's philosophy was "they're big leaguers, if they don't know how to do it by now they never will". But obviously the work they are doing holding on runners, fielding practice, throwing to the right base and aggressiveness on the bases is paying off. Also, playing games sans freak show might have a bigger influence then I originally thought.
  20. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) cliffnotes: Coop fixed him "Humber could end up as the latest in the long line of Don Cooper success stories." Uh oh - Joe Cowley won't like this.
  21. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) Sox commercial. I kind of like how understated it is. The photography is badass too. What say you? Love it.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...4-more-al-teams I don't really have a problem with the ranking - although I suspect the Sox are better than these superficial analysis'. This one is particularly superficial. He states the Sox should be better than last year. At 79-83, were they really worse than 19th last year?
  23. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Exactly, expect to see Vizquel in there a lot too. As long as he's healthy. flavum, good job on the ST coverage/game threads. No more broadcasts for me until opening day. 4 days away fellas. Unless Morel is a flop, I don't see Omar getting as much playing time this year. I suppose it will equal out if he spells Alexei and Beckham more frequently.
