  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Replace Thome with Dye and I agree completely. I know people have a soft spot for Thome, but while Dye may cost more $$$, he's a better all around hitter. Is Rickey Henderson available?
  2. By the way, if you guys haven't realized, whoever started this forum is just trying to make a mockery of this site. It's clearly somebody who made up the screen name and is trying to rip on the "Beckham mania" by messing with you guys... Stop biting on it.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) He's already way better than Crede offensively. False Statement. He's good, but when Crede was at his best he hit .285 with about 30 hrs and 95 RBIs, not to mention I think he was pretty good at 3b too. Not saying Beckham can't/won't do it, because I know he will, but let's not forget our roots here, Crede is the measuring stick.
  4. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Those are fair enough reasons to rebut the proposition. BTW I do not consider myself a scrub. Please remember to leave the attitude at the door when entering this forum. Thank You Never said you were a scrub bud. All I was saying is that is how Scrub (Cub) fans talk... and I believe Sox fans are more sensical. Either way, it is certainly a nice idea, just don't think it's very plausible, b/c every team in the ML will want him.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Wanting the best hitter in the ML makes us sound like the Scrubs? Sure One, he's not the best hitter in the ML... that would be Albert Pujols. Two, Cubs fans are the types of fans to pick out an incredible player and say "we should get him, he would fit great in our lineup." Obviously any team in baseball would lineup to have Mauer, which is exactly the reason the Sox won't get him, when have we ever gotten caught up in a bidding war for a top free agent. It's ok to wish, but it's not going to happen.
  6. There is no way in hell we are getting Mauer... and talking like this only makes us sound like the Scrubs
  7. Anyone heard what is going on with the 5th spot in the rotation? Is it Torres, Bart, sweaty Freddy, Oney?
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I provide the ultimate in analysis. I was looking on Friar Nation, the Pads message board, and some of those clowns don't even know what they got from us. A lot of them think Richard has been relieving for us all year long and at best he'll be a long reliever or back of the end rotation guy. They said Poreda is not an impact guy, and Dexter and Russel won't see the big leagues. Poreda, Richard, and Dexter all have the potential to be something real solid and i'm excited to see how all of them do. Does anyone know when Richard is scheduled to start? He should fare pretty well in that big park.
  9. Detroit felt cool for about a second after they got Washburn, and then Kenny rammed this down their throat. I will never doubt KW again
  10. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Lemme ask all the BA over Wise haters this: Let's say you owned a business. There's one guy that does one thing very well, and a bunch of other things ok. This guy doesn't seem like he wants to be there. He's always b****ing and talking about how he could do better elsewhere. Then there's another guy. He doesn't do anything that well, and isn't as good as the other guy, but he tries. He's a team-first guy who will do anything you ask him to do. He takes the criticism and comes to work everyday. Which do you want? Personally, I want the guy that wants to be there and will do anything asked, no matter his limitations. Either way, it's done...BA is gone, Wise will be soon. Prior to BA being sent down, give me on single source out there in the news that said BA was complaining about his role (and no SoxTalk is not an official source). You're right, in the end it doesn't matter because neither one of them could hack it. Yet, BA clearly had more upside. He was better in every statistical category, except for SBs. Not tom mention Wise is OLD. All I want is a little accountablility towards the front office and Ozzie for making this obvious terrible decision. I do respect that Wise gives his all, there's no taking that away, but don't tell me BA didn't want to be here prior to being sent down... or that he didn't give it his all either.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Methinks someone's complaining for the sake of complaining... I find it fascinating that you think the Sox should have known he'd suck (which he actually hasn't too badly considering he is the 5th starter) after he performed decent in the few starts he made at the end of last year. And being in shape has nothing to do with it. In fact, claiming Richard would be better because he was "younger and in much better shape" is funny. Pitchers don't have to be in perfect shape. Look at many closers, Sabathia, and Wells for example. Very few people were up in arms about this at the start of the year, but hindsight is 20/20 isn't it? In the past 4 years Colon has thrown roughly 250 innings, that's the equivalent of a little over 1 season. That's the kind of shape I am referring to when considering signing a guy. And pitchers who look like Colon is not the norm in baseball, that is why people do make a big deal about guys like Wells (whose own career was cut short thanks to his weight) and Sabathia. But weight isn't even the issue, I'm just making the point that sinking money into rehab projects like Colon and Garcia is a waste of $ and should not be done if your GM is going to spend that kind of money on those guys and then cry about salary restraints.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Two million dollars doesn't get us Hudson, heck it probably doesn't even pay for a half of the season.... http://www.insidesocal.com/dodgers/2009/02...act-detail.html I never said it would pay for him, I said it would help us pursue Hudson, there is a difference.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Well I'm gonna say it, because it's true. It was a low risk move that had potential to pay off for us. And for a fifth starter, we could have had worse. I realize it was a low risk move, but it was an obvious low reward move... They should have known he was going to be awful by simply looking at what kind of shape he was in and the velocity on his fastball. Instead of trying to fill the rotation internally, it took them a waste of $1m to consider putting the younger, and in much better shape Clayton Richard. Now they've sunk even more money into Freddy Garcia who will not pitch for the Sox this year either. This amount of $ starts to add up, and whether it is $1.5 or $2 million, it is a lot, even though those of us who don't manage a payroll think it isn't. Maybe an extra $2 million would have been better used pursuing other players like Orlando Hudson at the beginning of the year, and we wouldn't have had to deal with this lead-off garbage to begin with.
  14. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) Brian asked to be traded. He asked to be traded b/c he was sent down thanks to a terrible decision by KW. If he wasn't sent down, he doesn't ask to be traded. Then KW has the top-flight defender he's looking for now without trading our 1st round draft pick.
  15. I like how KW complains about salary restraints but has no problem blowing an easy million on Colon... and i don't want to hear it was a relatively cheap risk w/ a high possible return... anybody that saw how much he weighed should know he was an injury waiting to happen, esp. with his past. This front office is having a rough year.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) White Sox Interested in Trading Fields for Pie By Jason Gage Bruce Levine is reporting that Ken Williams is seeking a top-flight defensive outfielder for the pennant race Continue Reading Hmm... it's too bad Brian Anderson wasn't a top-flight defensive outfielder, otherwise we could have just filled that need internally...
  17. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) So if Wise had been dealt for Kotsay leaving us with Kotsay, BA, and Fields, which would you send down? Obviously it would be Fields, which was my point that Wise has nothing to do with Fields getting sent down. At this point, I honestly could care less who our late-inning defensive replacement is. Obviously it was total BS getting rid of Anderson, and they're whole excuse for sending him down was that he had the option and they could keep both players if they kept Wise up, even though they subsequently traded Anderson shortly after. However, I will start to care if Wise keeps starting every other day in center like he has been. Honestly, bat Ramon Castro or Nix in there at DH if Thome is hurt, not Wise in center. Guillen is taking absolutely no heat for this complete garbage in trotting out a sub .190 hitter every other day on a team that was in the middle of this hunt.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) I fail to see how a 2 year deal is more desirable than a 1 year deal if the total dollars are about equal. One word: security One bad year for an old Octavio could cost him a few million the next if he is a free agent instead of signed to a multi-year deal. It's all about the dollars.
  19. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Tyler Flowers can't come soon enough. AJ's act is getting old. This was probably the most unintelligent comment i've seen this year. He's bee our most consistent offensive player over the past 5 years, and does a great job handling our pitching staff. He is also up there, if not, the most competitive player on our team. I personally appreciate someone telling Lexi to get his act together defensively, he makes the laziest errors out there, although it was probably not the best forum to do so.
  20. QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Who the hell is Manny Parra? Are we talking about the nearly 27-year old "up and comer" with a history of arm injuries who has never had an ERA below 4.30 at the major league level? The same guy who's was so effective earlier this year that he got dispatched to Nashville? Can someone tell me how he is better/evaluated more positively than Richard? All I know is that we wouldn't be generating any buzz if we were building a package around Clayton. That's what this is akin to... Well put... If GMs around baseball had any intelligence they would start valuing White Sox youth at a higher level as we almost overnight became stocked with young players with a lot of potential. (Plus, I kind of want Halladay for not that much in return.)
  21. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) WE didnt say no....THEY said no Actually, when they demanded Beckham in the trade, WE said no to the Jays, thus ending trade talk discussions.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) TCQ is as healthy as he's going to be this season. He'll never be 100 percent until he has surgery in all likelihood, so we might as well try it now and see how it goes. Even a 70 percent Carlos in left with Pods in center is an improvement over Pods in left and the Wise/Anderson platoon in center though, so as long as Carlos is on the field, this is a good thing. Is plantar fascitis the type of injury you get surgery for? I didn't think so... I just thought it took time to heal, people get it all the time.
  23. Prediction: Ozzie waits until Pods hits a rough patch and quietly inserts Wise back into the starting leadoff role in centerfield. You guys may think it's crazy, but Dwyane Wise is the type of player Ozzie has always dreamed of having, a speedy, garbage version of Chone Figgins. Wise WILL get his ABs, there will just be a heavy 4 man rotation in the outfield justified by saying Quentin, Dye, and Pods all need rest-I guarantee it.
  24. I blame Kenny. What did Kenny think was going to happen with our rotation this year. He had to have known Colon or Contreras probably would not work out going into the season. They were both long shots and we had no other back-up plans. Richard is doing his best but it's not cutting it. They brought up Poreda with really no guidance as to what he would be and now he is simply a mop up guy whose arm hasn't been stretched out enough to be a starter b/c of this role they stuck him in. Our 5th spot is a disaster, and Kenny knew it would be like that and did nothing. He needs to make a move if he wants to win. They had an opportunity to get a guy like Edwin Jackson and blew it by going with two notoriously injury prone guys, one of whom decided to simply disappear. We need another starter, doesn't need to be a Halladay type, although that would be nice, but someone who can pitch if we want to win this division, maybe a Bedard-type, because I don't see Poerda or Richard getting the job done b/c they both have to grow through the "growing pains" of being a starting pitcher, see David Price.
  25. What do those who suggest pulling Clayton Richard for Poreda think is going to happen? Poreda is going to magically step in and start getting people out and help us win the division. It is absurd to think Poreda will step in and be a better filler in that 5th spot than Richard. Poreda has no experience in the big league level and needs time to develop. Richard has been around and is hitting a rough a patch right now, let him pitch out of it. I remember everyone else calling for Floyd's head when he hit a rough patch. For those who think Poreda will slip into that rotation and be better, take a look at David Price on the Rays, the #1 pitching prospect in all of baseball. Price got experience pitching in the ALCS and WS last year, and he is struggling big time right now as a starter, walking batters, getting hit hard, etc. For those who think Poreda won't be worse than Richard, you're mistaken. Right now Richard is a serviceable 5th starter, and putting a rookie in thereto get shelled will do anything but help us win the division.
