QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Good signing. This is the kind of guy the Twins sign & turn into a starting outfielder. But we are not the Twins He does remind me of Delmon Young...

So Now That Pettitte Is Officially Done...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) I think it would be hilarious if the Yankees end up running out Colon and Garcia at the 4 and 5 spots. I would watch each and everyone of those games with interest. I know that it seems less likely now that Pettitte is gone, but what does Freddo do if he doesn't make the team? Does he come crawling back to the Sox? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Was there any real chance of him being in Chicago, barring trade or injury? I don't think so. That's what I was thinking.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) Teahen, Castro and Omar are already set for the bench, barring a trade. So that leaves one spot open for Milledge/Lillibridge/De Aza. That is, unless Ozzie opts for a 6 man pen instead of 7, which I doubt occurs. This is with Viciedo being in Charlotte, right?

Hopefully competition will bring out the best in DeAza, Lillibridge, and Milledge. This is good.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Pardon my ignorance but who do they have that we could use? Brett Gardner? Ivan Nova? Joba Chamberlain? Jesus Montero? Manuel Banuelos? Maybe the Sox (I'm trying to quit saying WE, since it's so annoying to some) would be able to get some of those guys. All (except for Joba) could be huge for the future. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) I'd almost prefer that KW never try to deal with the Yankees again. The last time he did it didn't end well. Ah my friend but we forget that Jose Contreras for Esteban Loaiza trade. I think the Sox won big time on that one. -
I just wish he'd get a haircut...

Holy s***...

Pettitte makes it official. You know the Yanks are as nervous as a midget nun at a penguin hunt about their pitching rotation this year. Are they going to get desperate? Should KW take advantage and pounce? I know it probably won't go along with the "All In" strategy, but it could potentially set the Sox up big time for the future.

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 04:25 AM) Other than thinking Alexei is about equal to Tulo, I have no real problems with any of this comments. In fact, it's the opposite. I thought he was sincere and humourous. My only concern is with the Joe West stuff. Again, I think it's hilarious, but at the same time I'm a bit worried about the repercussions. Umpires are a tight-knit group. Of course they're supposed to be subjective, but if you really think they are, you're delirious. Are we getting to the point where we might be facing a somewhat regular disadvantage? I sure hope not, but it does worry me a little. That said, I don't really think West is taken too seriously these days, so it could be insignificant. I hope so. Umpires can and should be eliminated. We have the technology.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) so now whats really left out there starting pitching wise that would be an upgrade over Harrell/Pena/Humber or are we really gonna rely on one of the 3? Whats Ben Sheets gonna demand contract wise? would he take on a limited role? hes the only guy i can think of thats left whod be an upgrade. Free agent pitchers left according to MLB trade rumors... Jeremy Bonderman SP Doug Davis SP John Maine SP Pedro Martinez SP Kevin Millwood SP Brian Moehler RF / SP Jamie Moyer SP Andy Pettitte SP Jarrod Washburn SP If the Sox are looking for a stop gap, I think Lucas Harrell might be the guy. Maybe some early in the season major league experience will do him some good. -
See ya Freddo... Hope the Sox don't beat up on you too bad when they play the Yanks!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Always thought of him as a lefty Tom Seaver. Tim Hulett Managing in the minor leagues. Has a son nicknamed "Tug" in the Rockies organization. Charles "CJ" Johnson

QUOTE (cws0591 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I have not followed the Yankee situation very closely but heard rumblings of them going for this guy. With their desperation for two viable starters why did they not bite? Duchscherer is not very good but i think the O's are going to be pretty decent this year. this is unfortunate because they are in one strong division. I have a feeling that the yanks are going to make a big trade for pitching soon. I think that they are trying to wait to see what Pettitte is going to do, and when he turns them away for good, they will get desperate. Not only do they have to worry about the boston red cubs, they also have to worry about Toronto and Baltimore, both of whom have made big time improvements to their squads.

Missed opportunity?

I've changed my mind about 3 times in the last half hour about Milledge possibly being on the team... First I was like "hey why not give him a shot? Maybe being on and off of several teams is making him realize that being a in the Major Leagues is a priviledge, not a right, and clean up his act"... But then I stumbled across this... and I thought NO FREAKING WAY I want him in a White Sox uniform. But after watching the ENTIRE VIDEO, maybe this wasn't entirely his fault. He was gesturing to his own dugout after a run scoring, tie breaking double, and the other team took exception to it. (Hell, keep him from getting on base if that's how you feel!) Well the other team hit him with a pitch, and he stole 2nd base (which I think is always cool). Then, the opposing players, still unhappy about the situation and not satisfied with him being HBP, started the fight, not Milledge. I can't put too much blame on him for that. Still, I think I would pass. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the majors, just not with the White Sox. Excuse me for the rambling, I haven't had my coffee yet.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Great pitcher for the Sox in the early 90s who fizzled out very quickly Bill Simas Traded for a one arm pitcher. Speaking of which.... Jim Abbott

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Wood/Buehrle was actually a debate. And I will admit that in 2003 I would've taken Wood over Buehrle in a second. There's really no way a non-biased person wouldn't. Thomas/Sosa was never a debate. If you take Frank's peak from '91-'97 and Sosa's peak from I guess '97-2003, Thomas still has a considerably higher OPS+. Imagine a roided up Frank? He would've trumped 2001-2004 with relative ease. A roided up Frank would have been hitting balls to Indiana. There wouldn't have been a helmet big enough for that already massive head. A shot back to the mound could have been fatal to a pitcher. You get the picture. I remember back in the day when I was enamored with all of the Sosa bombs just like everyone else. I've always been a Sox fan, but I've always liked Sosa too. I'll never forget listening to the radio one morning when a caller to the Score tried to convince the host that Sosa was so much better than Thomas. This was back in like 96-97 before everyone had the "internets" and stats were readily available. Well whoever the host was on the Score at the time DID have stats, and he made the poor Sosa fan look pretty foolish.
