6-17 GAME THREAD sox vs pirates 6:00, WGN

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) Good. I was worried for a minute. I LOLed at work.. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) I'm shocked to see that bulldog makeup we heard so much about this offseason hasn't come through. Surely someone as prepared and competitive and mentally sharp and angry and good at interviewing as Peavy was should translate into little health problems and maximum wins. After all, wouldn't a true bulldog mentality cause him to rip off his arm from his shoulder and beat the batter unconscious. I swear, the disappointment from this season makes me feel like offseason reporting might be...gulp...meaningless?! What the hell are you talking about? DON'T YOU SEE THE BULLDOG IN HIM WHEN HE SCREAMS ON THE MOUND AFTER MISSING THE SPOT WITH ONE OF HIS PITCHES??

Akinori Iwamura.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 07:29 AM) I would just worry that the knee surgery has affected his swing somehow and thats why hes been so worthless this season. This is what I was thinking. Maybe he came back too early from knee surgery. He was a pest when he was with the Devil Rays. He's another lefty bat too. Eh.. maybe he can be a reclamation project that will have a rebirth of sorts. He can be like AJ was when he got here.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Iwamura was DFA'd anyone would like to take a chance on him? DFAd by the Pirates?? Ouch.

David DeJesus is on the market. Can we use him? Do we want him? Can we get him?

Sox at Pirates 6-15-10 game thread 6:05 first pitch

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) We might start seeing some regression by Rios soon. Man don't say that. Rios is one of the few positives of White Sox baseball this year. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Allow me to speculate about all of this with a completely different hypothesis. Consider the following: 1) Baseball is after all entertainment 2) Jerry Reinsdorf is a pretty smart owner 3) There is intense competition between the Sox and Cubs for the Chicago baseball entertainment dollar. 4) There is this MLB.COM reality show being produced featuring the White Sox. 5) Ozzie has always been regarded as a very entertaining personality, and not above theatrics I recall the video of A.J. and the mock fight with a professional wrestler during Spring Training, a couple of years ago, in which Ozzie participated by hitting the guy with a folding chair. What if the producers of MLB.COM suggested to the Sox that they could generate a lot of interest and publicity if they staged a big riff between Ozzie and Kenny? Jerry Reinsdorf, though reluctant to go along, decided it would be worth the publicity. Such a scenario would explain how a smart business man like Reinsdorf would tolerate such behavior without stepping in and firing someone. If this is not an act, then there are a lot of people here who are bigger idiots than we think. Ozzie would have to be an idiot for allowing his sons to cause so much controversy. Kenny Williams would have to be an idiot for not exercising some self restraint, and for allowing Ozzie to usurp his responsibilities and control. Ozzie’s family would all have to be idiots for creating such a scene and jeopardizing Ozzie’s professional career. After all none of this would look good on his resume, if it were real, and if he ever intends to get another managing job in the Big Leagues. If this isn't a publicity stunt, wouldn't you think that everyone involved would be on their best behavior, knowing that it will all come out in the MLB.COM show? Maybe we're the idiots here for falling for this stunt. “I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’‘. I would buy in to this if the team didn't suck so bad. I mean publicity be damned. These guys want to win first and foremost. It would be different if they were leading the AL Central by 5 games and cruising along.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) That actually looks pretty good... Until Rios is traded for a bounty of young talent.

I thought it was Oney Guillen that caused the ruckus with the tweets, not Ozzie Jr. I have a bad bad bad feeling about this. Kenny Williams is going to walk...

I really don't know what to say about Carlos Quentin. It seems like he pops everything up all the time. How can he go from 2008 to this? I really like the guy, but I'm ready to give up on him. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) You know what, I was hoping we'd no-hit. Why not draw national attention to our woes while also embarrassing the team? If it meant Williams was one minute closer to breaking apart this filth and ending the super-fan talk around here of winning through June on a .700 clip I was all for it. Dude, I don't EVER want to get no hit by the CHICAGO CUBS on NATIONAL TV. Never. Ever. Idiot Cub fans would have ammo for years. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Remind me how great Kotsay is against LHP again? If Lilly does no hit the Sox, should it really even count? I mean it's like no hitting the Newark Bears. How does a hitting coach feel after being no hit? And here comes even more rain. This is really gonna suck. I'm switching it to Lakers Celtics. -

Man I wish I could find that post from last year when I said that RIOS WILL MASH next year.... I'm telling you guys... he's going to mess around and play himself out of town. Somebody is going to take notice offer up a bounty of young talent that KW won't be able to refuse. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) I don't think you automatically have major league caliber backups ready; that's absurd. My entire point is that building a roster by counting on projected production from those two based on a single great partial year each also seems a little far-fetched, especially in retrospect. We were sold that guys like Quentin and Beckham could contribute enough to this team offensively with their limited experience that dudes like Kotsay and Teahen would be non-issues. I thought going in we seemed a little thin, and I think I even remarked 'if either of those two has a bad year...' Well, here we are. The best GMs seem to have solutions when injury/performance issues come up...I'm really not sure KW has any in this situation, other than "dump, start over". I'm not a Gordon Beckham hater, but EVERYBODY here thought (and still thinks) that he is an All Star. I had my questions, but I kept them to myself. But I remember that the major question mark was the DH postion and Alex Rios. I really don't think that the DH is the reason that the team sucks so bad, and Rios has been raking all season. But seriously, NO ONE saw Beckham falling off like this. LOL I rember every thing was BACON this and SLAYER that. He was supposed to be a sure thing. And like someone said earlier, Quentin was almost the freaking MVP in 2008. That's A Rod, Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer territory.
