  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Someone show Carlos this poll. Make him angry. NO!!! We don't want him to go and punch another bat... Besides... Carlos ain't got time to be reading this trivial stuff... he's too busy working on his swing in the bathroom.
  2. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) Huff does make a lot of sense. Also, IIRC, Kenny has liked Huff in the past. The sox definitely need a LH bat who can hit for some power vs RHP. PK has been horrible vs. RHP the last few years, and the sox wouldn't lose much production with PK taking a seat for Huff. Wow Huff would be nice if he could repeat his 2008 numbers...
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Nasty. For a DH who hasn't put up a .850 OPS since 2006...Thome's put up better numbers and we spend 1/2 as much on him each year. Wow... Oooookay so Hafner is definitely not an option. I remember that guy used to mash though. Adam Dunn would look nice in a Sox uniform... well he wouldn't during the 200 times year that he walks back to the dugout after striking out. But I'll take that as long as he's hitting 40 plus bombs from the left side.
  4. Is Cleveland ready to give up on Travis Hafner yet? What is his salary like?
  5. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Carlos Quentin I wonder how pissed off Quentin would be if he were made the everyday DH. His value would decrease substantially, wouldn't it? He'd be pissed, but I sure wouldn't mind having a defensive stud play the outfield next to Rios.
  6. Angels Reach Agreement With Fernando Rodney By Tim Dierkes [December 23 at 2:57pm CST] 2:57pm: The Angels have agreed to terms with Fernando Rodney, according to ESPNDeportes.com's Enrique Rojas (Jorge Arangure of ESPN passes on the translated news via Twitter). Rodney will sign a two-year deal worth $11MM. Wow the Tigers are losing good players left and right... I guess that's good for us.
  7. The Mets may have reduced interest in Carlos Delgado, according to Marty Noble of MLB.com. The slugger won't start playing baseball in Puerto Rico until mid-January; no reason was given for the delay. Sounds like he's still not fully healthy...
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) He's "only" 32 and last year his salary was only $1.5 million. Former Rookie of the Year in 2002, I would rather have him than Kotsay as the DH. I never said it's ideal or perfect, but given our salary/payroll situation where it's at right now, I'm sure he's hovering somewhere on KW's Top 5 list of available options, largely based on the low salary we'd have to pay him for putting up a 775-850 OPS (not great, but okay) out of that spot. He did hit a homer every 12 at-bats as a Yankee last season...Delgado's not realistic from a salary standpoint. I see there's another thread about LaRoche, and I suppose that's possible, and so is Thome coming back, but I wouldn't discount Hinske too quickly. Eh... I think I'd rather take a chance with Andruw Jones getting some PT and winning the Comeback Player of the Year award.
  9. All I know is it feels damn good being in the conversation and having our starting staff compared to the big boys. Here are a few equations for you: This years staff >>>>>>Last years staff (See ya later fatolo colon and Sayonara Jose Contreras...) Having our pitching staff compared to the yanks and the sawks>>>>>>having our pitching staff compared to the royals and the pirates I just hope that the starters live up to the hype. Screw the Bears... is it time for Spring Training yet??? I can't WAIT!!!
  10. Man, I sure hope that our pitching staff is going to be as good as everyone thinks it will be. People are putting a LOT of faith in those 5 guys.
  11. Man I'll never complain about the moves that KW makes. The Cubs are in a world of hurt. Carlos Silva? And you gotta pay him even MORE money? Wow... And mark my words... Milton Bradley will MASH next year.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) Not a single White Sox player on the list. Dude... that's a dope a$$ avatar...
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Well it wouldn't be a gaping hole cause Huddy would step on in. That said I wouldn't be trading Danks either, cause I just don't want to f*** with this rotation, it's too damn good and John is a huge part of that. I don't know... I think I would pull the trigger. I think Hudson could step in and fill that hole just fine. Now if the Padres were talking about the Danks brothers AND hudson, I would have a problem.
  14. QUOTE (League @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) This is pure speculation on my part, but I just read that Buster Olney has reported Mark DeRosa has dropped his contract demands to 3/18. If he drops even more, say to 3/15, I think the Sox could inquire. He seems to be exactly what Ozzie wants in a DH, the guy can play anywhere on the diamond and provides a better bat than any of our other candidates. He had a down year last season, but his two previous years were pretty great for OBP. He can play 1st, 2nd, 3rd and LF/RF. He just seems, to me anyway, like the guy we've heard about all season for DH. Don't we need home runs though?
  15. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) It would almost be worth losing 100 games next year just so we could get Ozzie out of here. Really? Are you a White Sox fan?
  16. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) just like Panic! at the disco you guys need to stop being emo, ya i went there. This team is fine! Harold Reynolds who i take as having a good baseball IQ has said with the addition of Juan Pierre we are in the position to win the division, the other guys on MLB TV seemed to agree. The worst player on our team is presumably Andruw whos gonna give us 25-30 HR (well maybe not if hes cycling with kotsay who i think can hit .280 with some decent power). I don't want to just win the division. I want to kick the yanks and the red sawks arses and win the World Series. I don't want to win the division just to get pummeled in the playoffs. I see your point though. A power bat would put us that much closer.
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Essentially Guillen does not want to have a guy that when they play those 12 games in the NL park, they are unavaialble. What Guillen wants are platoon type guys that he can use for certain matchups. This works well in this division as I have seen enough of the Cy Youngification of s*** pitchers. I think something is going to happen and it is going to be related to John Danks and his contract situation. Would you guys be okay with losing the Danks brothers if it meant landing Adrian Gonzalez?
  18. David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells David Wells BIG MOUTH FAT FREAKING TUB OF LARD DAVID WELLS! Billy Koch Todd Ritchie Oh yeah and Rick >cough scott linebrink White...
  19. QUOTE (cornball @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:45 AM) Where the club is right now after the JP trade, Kenny definately will add a power lefty bat. I am guessing Delgato on a low base incentive deal. Doesn't feel right to gut the farm right now for AGonn or Dunn although they would be welcome additions. Delgato is coming off of hip sugury and is supposed to be playing winterball. Dunn is in the last year of his contract, isn't he? I certainly wouldn't gut the farm for him then. I could see him wanting to stay here if we trade for him and win the World Series though.
  20. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:49 AM) Quentin replaces Dye in RF. That's an upgrade, *if* TCQ is healthy. Andruw Jones replaces Dewayne Wise as a bench outfielder. That's an upgrade. Kotsay replaces Brian Anderson as a bench outfielder. Upgrade. Juan Pierre replaces Pods as a starting outfielder (RF). That should be a small upgrade. Rios replaces the centerfielder-of-the-month that we've had since Rowand left. Upgrade. Vizquel replaces Brent Lillibridge as backup infielder. Need I say more. Peavy + Garcia replace Contreras + Colon in the rotation. Major upgrade. Putz joins the pen, replacing someone. Upgrade, if Putz is healthy. The only area that's gotten weaker is DH, with the rotating-DH likely producing less output than Thome. I think Kenny is having a good offseason / late season of 2009. This post made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside... or maybe it was that chick in that pic throwing those tshirts??
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Who did KW deal for in 2006 only to have it turned down at the last moment? That's right, our DH next year is Soriano. ALFONSO Soriano? HAHAHAHA!!!!! No. Well, unless the cubs wanted to send a bazillion dollars with him to cover his contract. But then doesn't he have a no trade clause? Well he would turn it down because he thinks he can still play in the outfield. Heck, I bet he still thinks he can play 2nd base!
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) K's per years since 2002: 170, 126, 195, 168, 194, 165, 164, 177 But to be fair, he does walk over 100 times a year, but has a career BA of .249 Yeah I looked at that right after my last post. Yuck. He'll kill a lot of rallies...
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Someone else mentioned it earlier, but Adam Dunn wouldn't completely surprise me You know... you might be on to something. Whenever I heard Adam Dunn's name mentioned, I thought "just another aging slugger", but he's actually not that old (just turned 31). And the guy consistently hits 40 bombs from the left. I'm down... Get it done.... or DUNN. (I know, that was bad).
  24. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) The B&B Show are going to rip this trade to shreds. Berstein is a tool when he's not being funny....
  25. Good God... I hate to beat a dead horse (especially this one) but if we somehow land Adrian Gonzalez, it... will... be... ON!!!
