Is a BJ Upton/Nick Johnson Combo Realistic?
chetkincaid replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (striker @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 08:26 AM) I think Winn could come close to matching Upton's offensive upside .300/.350. And he wouldn't cost our two best prospects. He'd be a stop gap until Danks or Mitchell are ready. How is Winn in the field? Isn't he injury prone? -
Matsui gone. I'm starting to think that we'd be LUCKY to get Thome and Pods back. Maybe we should start the "trade all the veterans for prospects" talk that we hear towards the end of the season when we suck. Yeah that or the "let the kids play!" talk. Somebody talk me off a ledge and tell me why the Sox offense isn't going to make me wanna shoot my tv next year...

All of those prospects for Upton? No. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) If this team gets into the playoffs they have a damn good shot at winning it all, I don't give a s*** how man games we win, if the pitching holds up and we get into the playoffs I'll be pleased. This isn't the NBA we're talking about, if you're one of the 8 teams lucky enough to still be playing baseball in mid-October you have a shot at making a run especially if the top of your starting rotation is especially strong. Oh yeah?? With that line up? Here's your 2010 ALDS breakdown: Game 1 Yanks 1 Sox 0 WP: Sabathia LP: Peavy Headline - PEAVY PITCHES 3 HIT GEM IN LOSING EFFORT Game 2 Yanks 2 Sox 1 WP: Burnett LP: Buehrle Headline - BUEHRLE DOMINANT, ONLY TO BE LET DOWN BY SOX OFFENSE Game 3 Yanks 1 Sox 0 WP: Petitte LP: Linebrink Headline - DANKS FIRES 9 SHUTOUT INNINGS - SOX ELIMINATED IN 10TH. Game over, series over. The yankees win... thaaaaaa yankees win!

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) I have a gut feeling we're gonna end up with Podsednik in LF and Thome in DH This is what I've been saying all along. 88 wins and first round exit, here we come!

LOL when I think of Lidge, I think of McCarver saying that the bad taste of that Albert Pujols NLCS bomb is just about gone... "I don't think that taste is there." is what he said. Then Scotty Pods takes him deep to walk him off. McCarver: "The taste is back again".... HAHAHAHA classic!

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) People keep posting this, but Ozzie is the one who mentioned it and he doesn't acquire the players, so we don't really know if that is the case. Plus didn't Ozzie call DJ Carrasco the team MVP? I'm not sure Ozzie is in the loop when it comes to aquisitions.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) And Dayan is waiting in the wings. Dayan is going to be Big Papi re incarnated... Wait... the GOOD Big Papi... not the one that sucked last year.
-
They still suck. I wonder what the Angels are thinking though. Their ace is going to their playoff arch rival.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) What did he say? He said something about the White Sox having interest in him and how he thinks that Pierre is BAD with no arm and a little speed. He was blabbering about how Pierre was bad before he came to the Cubs and how he had 2 good weeks last year when Man Ram was suspended. Bernsie is a tool.
-
Bernstein is talking about Juan Pierre right now on the Score...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Are you starting a baseball team? No. Not yet. When I get dirty rotten filthy stinking rich I'm going to bring an MLB team to Portland, but that's a whole other story Naw seriously though... I wonder if scouts for the White Sox are taking a close look at anyone over there. Hey, that's how we found Tadahito Iguchi, right??

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Welcome to the boards Mr Cowley And please leave that d-bag mask you've been wearing at the front door. And wipe your feet before you come in. Please.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) We're running out of options. Freaking right we are... I'm getting desperate. I'm starting to scour the Japanese league for lead off hitters and power hitters. Maybe we can find a poor mans Ichiro.
-
What the hell has gotten into the Mariners? They must have gotten tired of sucking. I wouldn't want any part of King Felix and Cliff Lee in the playoffs.
-
If they get Matsui, I'd bet that we go after Vlad the Impaler...

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:24 PM) What makes you say that? Hang on, let me clear my throat... cough TORII HUNTER cough Nice... You speak nothing but the truth my friend. That Torii Hunter thing was a kick in the sack of all White Sox fans. I remember waking up that morning and reading that Hunter had signed with the Angels. SEVERAL F bombs were dropped that day... Tony Reagans seems to be good at one-upping KW. I bet they're friends, but KW secretly wants to punch him in the throat...

I'd rather have Milton Bradley for a DH.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) Which would be incredibly stupid. True, but didn't he say that?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) No one has said "Thome is a more versatile DH than Cust." What has been said is that Thome's lack of versatility actually works out better in this case because he's never going to be expected to play the field, whereas Cust likely will be. If you would rather have your DH play DH than play the field, why wouldn't you get the player with more offensive upside who is not going to hurt your team by playing defense? It's not necessarily a bad thing that either Cust or Matsui can play the field, but if they were signed by the Sox and asked to play the field, I would hope it would be in an emergency situation only and never as a regular player out there. Matsui is not coming if he can't play the field...

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Ugh, neither of these 2 fit on my 2010 team. This... Turn the page already. Only way I want to see Gentleman Jim on the squad is in a back up pinch hitting role. And with his inability to do anything other than DH, I don't think it's feasible.

Tigers, Cubs, Royals, Giants Join Sox As Teams Interested in Pods
chetkincaid replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) To be fair, all the teams are in cities that are currently feeling the effects of this "economic downturn." Some, like Detroit and Cleveland have been feeling the effect for years. Kansas City is just a small market and Minny is only going to be boosted by the new stadium. Money wise, the White Sox should be destroying all the other teams. This is what frustrates me the most. I mean, it's not like we're in the AL East. -
So is this the last day of the winter meetings? People start leaving Indy at around noon today, right? So I guess it's safe to say that the White Sox come away with nothing this year. Bummer.
