QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:48 AM) Not a big surprise, but an interesting idea for the Sox, who could use a lefty power bat, and cheap. Why would we want another guy that wasn't good enough to play for the Royals? To anyone wanting to play Jacobs at first........have fun. I'm pretty sure I'm a better first baseman than that guy. While he has power, his swing is long meaning a high K rate, he doesn't walk, his OBP is crap, and his defense is horrible. He's nothing more than a power bat off the bench. Bale sucks too. I doubt the Royals pick 2 players so maybe they are getting ready to sign Kendall today. Posted by: revive85 | December 10, 2009 at 07:53 AM To the multiple people above who said that maybe their team could pick Jacobs up to help out at 1st...Jacobs was so awful at 1st base for one of the worst teams in baseball (royals) that they made him strictly a DH early in the year and gave Billy Butler a shot at the job, even though he had little experience and nobody believed he would be much better. Jacobs is a terrible fielder - probably one of the worst fielding 1st basemen in baseball. And when you can't hit all that well either...Well, I'm just saying, there is a reason the Royals dropped him. Posted by: KCJay | December 10, 2009 at 07:57 AM No thanks...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Kenny has said a lot regarding Milton Bradley. Although he said they weren't a fit or he didn't see him as a fit, there could be a bit more to this. Clearly Bradley can play, but the Cubs would need to do much more than just take on Linebrinks contract, imo. Kenny weighs in on Milton Posted by Bruce on Wed, 12/09/2009 - 14:54 INDIANAPOLIS _ No, the White Sox are not the so-called mystery team in on Milton Bradley. Sox GM Kenny Williams was asked about Bradley this afternoon during his session with local reporters. Next, Kenny was off to a fun encounter with the Japanese media. More on that in a minute. First, Kenny on Milton: "You know, the funny thing is, I've had the pleasure of talking to Milton in the past, and it saddens me to a great extent, actually, some of the situations that he's been put in or he's put himself in. I'd like to see this guy just be able to go out there without all of the distractions and everything and do what he can do because this guy can play. He can play. I don't know that I see a fit for us, and I probably shouldn't even be talking about him because he's not our player. But he can play. Milton Bradley can play. It's too bad because he's a really a more thoughtful person, and he's a better person than I think it's been portrayed or he's shown, however the hell it's manifested itself. It's too bad." With that, Kenny said he'd stay out of Cubs business. I wholeheartedly agree. Bring him on aboard, KW...

Imagine trying to swing a bat with not one, but with TWO bad shoulders... Ouch.
-
Man those shoulders are SCARY though. He could be a season ending injury waiting to happen. Coco or Pods? Eh, at this point I'm almost willing to say trade for Angel Pagon and give him a chance to lead off for a full season. We might find something special in him.

TRADE HIM!!!! Naw I'm just playin'.. MB is a class act. That bike is bananas. It'll look cool in his garage, which is where KW hopes it stays... -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) First, how do you propose to "protect him" from the media? That is virtually impossible. And this is Chicago, its a big and sometimes tough market to play in as an athlete. He'd be skewered constantly, by media and fans, and his history tells us there is almost no chance he would handle that well. Second, even as a die-hard Sox fan, I recognize that the fans at the park can be very abrasive difficult on certain players at times, including their own. The Cell isn't some magic kingdom where all fans are friendly and nice to all players. The South Side is not a place where players can hide in obscurity. Yeah well it would be a hell of a lot better than Wrigley. And WINNING would go a long way to make the Cell more comfortable - and I hope that we win. Milton probably feels like he has something to prove and would love to be a big contributor to the White Sox while spending the Cubs money.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) I'm sure it means nothing more than we already know, but Yahoo sports via the Tribune is saying the Sox are after Matsui while Coco Crisp wants to play for the Sox. I'd like to have Matsui as a DH but that still leaves a hole in the OF. And who knows how Crisp will be after missing so much time and having surgery. Mike Cameron anyone?? Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star characterizes the White Sox and Red Sox interest in Coco Crisp as "low-level," but says that's still more than the Royals have shown. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says the White Sox would consider Crisp, Mike Cameron, and Marlon Byrd. I would give an emphatic NO. I'd rather have Pods...

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Milt hates the cubs, I hate the cubs......... Milt has issues but it has never involved anything illegal as far as I recall. He seems to have a demeanor away from the park that differs greatly from his baseball persona although I could be wrong. His OBP is as sexy as it gets and he can not drive in runs. Bat him leadoff and play a little left here or there. Players seem to like it on the southside and while we hear that it is great to play at Wrigley I am not inclined to believe that is true unless the price is right. Send AJ, Guillen, Reinsdorf and Williams to meet with him and go from there. Give them Carlos Torres. As was pointed out earlier, Jurassic had milder issues but he seemd to adapt to the Cell quite well. I agree with this... For the most part, Cub fans are... well I don't want to get banned so I'll just say that Cub fans are "emotionally challenged". I bet it's no picnic playing in the outfield at that dump of a ballpark with a bunch of... "highly intoxicated fans" yelling at you. I think it would be a much better situation at the Cell. Protect him for media d bags that try to start and keep the drama going, and Milton would do just fine on the Southside.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) I really can't believe there is a White Sox fan alive that wants Milton Bradley on the White Sox. You got one here. I'm a Milton Bradley fan and I would be very happy to see him in a White Sox uniform.
-
Eh... nevermind. It's to the Mariners for Carlos Silva... Bummer.
-
Nope.... it's going to be the White Sox. I can feel it. I'll be happy with that.

QUOTE (Fingish @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) First, I'm not going to suggest that I think this has a high probability (like I'd give it 5-10% chance) of getting done, but I think the observation that it might not take as much as one might think to get Halladay could be correct. If he is truly serious about testing FA after this season then his value is obviously reduced in a trade, and he has to start looking around for where he wants to go showcase himself. This is where Kenny does the sell-job. Projecting out to him what they can do with a rotation like our XBox fantasy. Since the Jays won't want to trade him to NY or Bos, Chicago makes more sense for Halladay want to showcase himself than Tampa Bay. Since Halladay has so much say over where he goes, it could create a situation where Toronto is virtually forced to take lesser value than they could get somewhere else. It isn't like we haven't seen this before. All that said, again, I doubt we end up with him, and if we do I'd hope it would be a scenario like that where we don't give full value, where ours is the 2nd or 3rd best offer on the table and the Jays are all but forced to take it. Giving up Danks and Danks and Flowers and on and on for him would be a mistake, IMO. But it sure is fun to think about when it is cold and gray outside. Good post. That's what I was saying. There's nothing wrong with throwing out ideas in the middle of winter. None of us really know what Kenny is thinking about doing... he'll proabably pull off some deal that none of us have even thought of and will have all of us going WTF WAS THAT???
-
Wow... Yanks get Granderson, huh? I guess they'll be even better next year. Great.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) LOL@us having enough prospects to land Halladay AND Gonzalez. Well I said it was a fantasy. It might not take as much to get Halladay as you think.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) And then we'd either have to have a 125 million dollar payroll in 2011 to keep the roster together...or the deals would basically put the Sox in a situation where they have a year to contend before the window closes. I guess you're right... But WOW... wouldn't that be a fun 2010??
-
You know... if we did get Carl Crawford for Carlos, and still ended up landing Adrian Gonzalez (pipe dream, I know)... I'd be perfectly fine with Andruw Jones as an everyday right fielder.
-
Hmmm.... VERY interesting...I think I'd take it.
-
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if KW landed Halladay. I remember how shocked I was when he traded Freddy Garcia AND Brandon McCarthy in 2006. I wouldn't be shocked at all if he traded some prospects (forget about starting pitching) to the Jays for Halladay, then turned around and used Danks or Floyd plus more prospects to land Adrian Gonzalez. That's how Kenny rolls. I know it sounds like a fantasy, but wouldn't it be cool? This place would be up for grabs...
-
Good God... why why WHY couldn't somebody teach BA how to swing a freaking bat?? If we could get a consistent .280 out of the guy, we would have been GOLDEN!
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I can be ok with this, actually. I guess I would be okay if we signed Matsui AND someone to play LF (Crisp, Pods)...
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Do people think CQ would be a disaster in RF because of the foot or do they think he simply can't play the position? I would be afraid he would get hurt running after a ball. Plus he isn't that fast, is he?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) So it's speculation that they'd be interested in Matsui and an assumption that he'd play left because Ozzie has been talking about moving Quentin to right. His 'as of today' outfield did have Jones in left and Quentin in right. Sounds like a whole lot of nothing. You cannot have an outfield with Matsui/Rios/Quentin. Rios is a good defender, but he's not that good... Hell, I don't think there's a center fielder alive that can cover that much ground.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Did you add the Quentin move part, or did they say that on the Score? Because I assume they'd want Matsui for DH, not OF. That's what they said on the Score update on the Winter Meetings. I didn't add it.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Matsui isn't even capable of playing the outfield. That's what I was thinking. Aren't we trying to upgrade the outfield defense?
