  1. Wow... Say hello to your new yankees center fielder. I'd love to have him though.
  2. Maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all. I just don't want to touch the starting rotation for this to happen.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) You don't own a sports team to make money, you own a sports team to say you own a sports team. Okay so the other teams with high payrolls.... yankees.. red sox, angels, mets, cubs... all of those teams have owners that lose money every year, or are they just breaking even? Is it because they sell out every night?
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) The run right at 0, and sometimes a little in the red. The ownership of the White Sox is not in the game to make a profit. You can't expect every team to pay $200 million, which is $50-70 million over the luxury tax, which later accumulates to something like $240 mill total. When Williams finds a player that he feels does exactly what the team needs, Reinsdorf and the ownership open the purse strings. Why do you think the Sox resigned Konerko after the World Series? Dye? Buehrle? Pierzynski? Peavy? Rios? Oh okay I didn't know that. Run right at 0, and sometimes under? Hmmm... I'm a bit of a skeptic on that one, but I'll buy it since I have no proof to the contrary.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Are you even aware of ownership situation of the White Sox? Maybe not. Enlighten me...
  6. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Our definite current holes: DH, RF, bullpen lefty Let's say for the sake of argument that we've got about $6M left to spend right now. It's a lot easier to fill 4 holes with $18M than it is to fill 3 holes with $6M. Edit: For that reason I'd gladly give Paulie away for a non-prospect assuming the acquiring team would eat all of that contract. I wish Reinsdorf would just give Kenny the friggin' green light to sign the players that we need to win. The guy probably makes a boat load of money every year from the team. I'm not saying go crazy like the yankees, but if the difference is 5-10 mil here and there, then JUST DO IT...
  7. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) Overreacting just a bit? Yeah probably. What can I say dude I'm bored..
  8. You would trade one of the faces of the organization for Daniel Murphy and Fernando Martinez? I'll tell you what, you better have Adrian Gonzalez in a trade the very next day or you'll have an empty ball park IMHO.
  9. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) ....if i am the PADRES GM i am asking for Floyd Hudson, Flowers, and another 1 or 2 prospects . Now maybe the Sox would counter but I AM starting with that . If I'm Kenny, the conversation would END with that as well...
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Get me the best LH hitting OF with at least some power they can trade for or buy within budget (and not trading away any of the starting pitching), pick up Ka'ahuie from KC to play 1B and move PK to DH. Flower as backup C and sometimes DH. Nix, CJ, Flowers and some 4th OF (maybe even Pods) as the bench. Garcia for 5th slot and Hudson in the pen, to slide into rotation if Freddy falters. Gives you a bullpen of Jenks/Thornton/Linebrink/Pena/Hudson/DJC/???. Leave everything else intact, except maybe picking up a bullpen arm that might fit the bill (though I think our bullpen isn't as bad as some portray it, and I think Jenks has a nice comeback year in 2010). Trade Linebrink if you can in that case, but I think he's likely to do better in 2009, maybe you trade him at the deadline if he has a solid 1st half. I honestly think that club will be a winner. I see a lot of players in there likely to improve in 2010 over 2009 (TCQ, Beckham, Ramirez, Teahen, Rios), and I think Flowers and Ka'ahuie have serious power potential that will develop nicely as rookies. The only guys who seem likely to regress are PK and AJ. Add that to what looks like a great starting rotation, and the only worries I'd have are defense and, to a limited extent, the bullpen (but the bullpen is ALWAYS a question mark). Flame away. Sadly with all this, you would probably still get kicked in the nads by the yankees come playoff time. It sounds good though. I'd take it.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Halladay-Peavy-Buehrle-Floyd-Danks.. Jesus.. Good God don't play with my emotions like that.... I know it's just a pipe dream, but would that be fun to watch or what? Throw that pitching staff up against the yanks in a 5 or 7 game series and watch them crap their pants
  12. Man what a D bag. I was a big Sammy Sosa fan... a HUGE Sosa guy... even though he was a cub and even though he was juicing. I thought that home run chase with McGwire was epic. But what the hell? Why would you do something like that to yourself? He's trying to make excuses, but it ain't working. If it was a legitimate mistake, then he should have stayed out of the limelight until that face got fixed. What a loser. And what's up with the slick back hair and fake eyes? Sammy, go away and never come back.
  13. Has anybody heard anything? Has his bad back ended his career?
  14. I'd take him back. People say that Javy can't win big games. But he can certainly help us get to the big games. He's an innings eater. You have to get to the big games before you can win them.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Flowers should back up AJ and, probably, spell whatever LH DH we go get, to get more AB's. No reason to go spend significant money on a backup C. This...
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) 200 SBs would be nice too And it would be nice if he charged the mound and punched a twins pitcher in the face once or twice a year...
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Rios could steal 20-25 Ramirez could steal 20-25 Beckham could steal 10-15 If Pods is back and healthy he could swipe 25-35 We have some players who could steal bases, but Getz was our best at doing it. Okay I guess you're right. It's just scary losing a fast guy like that after years of station to station slow base running...
  18. So Placido Polanco stole SEVEN bases last year and got caught twice. If the Sox go after him, we'll still need speed. I think Kenny has something else up his sleeve. I HOPE Kenny has something else up his sleeve...
  19. I don't know... the more I think about this trade, the more I'm hoping it's just a rumor. In Kenny I trust though.
  20. I'm not sure about this trade. I know I don't want Teahen to be the answer in the outfield. I guess my Carl Crawford pipe dream is dead for now.
