This thread reminds me of the time people here didn't want to give up Gordon Beckham in a trade for Adrian Gonzalez.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 05:52 PM) If the White Sox were actually in the middle of their three year window, they'd be signing Alex Gordon, Cespedes or Upton, adding a 2nd/3rd tier starting pitcher and figuring out a way to shore up SS. All of those moves made before 2015 had a much bigger (negative) impact than anyone could have imagined. We're likely to be stuck with Dexter Fowler or Span as our big outfield acquisition, or more likely...Austin Jackson or Travis Snider. The fact of the matter is that between the Cubs and the rest of the American League Central being better positioned than us for the next two years (just wait, the Tigers aren't done spending), it's hard to see how they even have a chance to compete before 2018...and by then you're also risking injuries or a decline from Sale, Abreu, Q, Rodon and Eaton. The only way it (competing) seemingly happens is if Tim Anderson and Fulmer become close to All-Star level players, Rodon takes the next step up in his progression and Montas becomes a monster out of the bullpen. What are the odds? Avi has already flopped, and he was viewed by most as a core member of the future offense entering 2015. As it is right now, unless they're willing to spend significantly or make at least one high impact trade, there's simply zero reason for them to hold onto the likes of Cabrera and Robertson...because there's not going to be a single team in the Central they would be favored to beat as currently constituted. I don't have any confidence that they'll spend this year. Maybe they'll shell out a few dollars next year but that still won't make us the favorites to win anything. We might as well trade Sale, Quintana and Abreu then. If we're not going to compete then why hold on to them?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) The MLB would never allow the White Sox to move away from Chicago. It's not happening. Why not? Because of the TV deals and attendance? You watch how that suffers the next couple of years as the cubs continue in this direction.
-
QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:06 PM) Where does this leave Cespedes,Upton, Gordon? Angels, Giants and Cardinals.
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) That may happen anyway and it has nothing to do with this. Once the Sox are up for a new TV deal it is going to be very interesting to see what happens. The Cubs deal will be up the same year I believe. The Sox are going to have to get an amount that will allow them to compete with what other teams are getting and to do so may have to look at another market that is not quite as saturated with content. I think the Rays are the only other team who has a better chance of moving. They still don't have a stadium deal, so they? I seriously wouldn't be surprised if we lost the White Sox. Name another team in MLB with a future as bleak as ours. Keep in mind... most other teams don't have to deal with a juggernaut in the same city. And the ones that do (Mets, Angels, etc) actually compete.

The White Sox are going to end up in Portland or Carolina in the next few years if they aren't careful. Watch. We're doomed.

QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) WCUB (the Score) is now in full TheoJedMaddonSchwarberBryantCubs jerk-off mode. Anyway, last year was the Cubs' free ride. All the pressure is on them now. Have fun. And we're on WLS next year. I don't even know what the radio address is. Who does? We're all gonna die. Let's just watch 2005 highlights from now on.

Jesus Christ I gotta turn off 670 The Score.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) Cubs winning the World Series would put the sox pretty close to their death bed if they stay bad. Especially if they go on a Yankees - like run and string together a bunch of World Series titles with a 6 - 10 year period. They will own this town. The White Sox will feel like the Schaumburg Boomers or the Kane County Cougars to casual baseball fans here. Soxtalk will be able to have a meet and greet anytime we want at a game for about $2 a ticket because we will be the only ones still going. I feel like Private Hudson in Aliens... "Game over, man... game over". We're all gonna die.

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) Where did I say any of that? I was alluding to the 3 teams in the running for him as I said the previous day. No I'm not mocking you. I'm saying that myself. We're going to be hurting next year if things stay the same because the cubs are going to take over Chicago even more. Who's other than us is going to want to go see the White Sox? There will be even lower attendance, which means lower money available for payroll, which means no significant free agent signings even with LaRoche and Danks falling off. We'll have to go to war with what we already have in house, and against the cubs that won't be good enough for the casual baseball fans in Chicago. We're doomed. (I know this is hyperbolic, but still...)

QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) Staying off Twitter for a little while This was worst case scenario And the only thing we've done is sign 2 catchers and Brett Lawrie. We're doomed. Next year is going to be so bad. We're all gonna die.

Who are the worst players in White Sox history?

I want a strong defensive team. We haven't seen that on the Southside in such a long time. Defense and pitching wins ballgames.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) would love for the sox to swoop in and make a last minute bid and win. That would be some surprise for the fan base. You add Heyward and I'd be willing to give up Tim Anderson for Todd Frazier. I know it's a pipe dream but I'd go to war with that team.
-
Man I really love his defense. But I also loved Brian Anderson and Jordan Dank's defense and neither of them could hit their way out of a wet paper bag. Eh... go ahead and trade him as long as you can replace his defense in the outfield. We need better gloves.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) People in my office are hooting and hollering right now because they heard Heyward signed with the Cubs, can anyone confirm? Premature.
-
Lawrie was probably the last move of significance. We're doomed.
-
Just think... Brett Lawrie (and others) was traded for Josh Donaldson. Kind of Like Jeff Samardzija was traded for Addison Russell. Why can't we be that lucky?
-
I know the market is thin but I kind of don't want Lawrie and a small part of me is hoping that the trade falls through.
-
Lorenzo Cain.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 05:00 AM) Is it just me or does Lawrie scream mediocre 3B? I don't know about giving up anything significant for him. We can go sign an Asian 3B. Keep the prospects. It's not just you... I was thinking the same thing. He seems like a mediocre loudmouth. He's a .263/.316/.736 hitter. Intensity? Shut up and play better. I'd rather give up nothing for the Japanese 3B.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:56 AM) Thank you for the link Lillian. That is an interesting read. Lawrie comes with some pros and cons but I think his energy and intensity is exactly what this lethargic team needs. I remember too many games where the Sox looked like lifeless dead. Eaton and Lawrie together could really provide a nice boost in the dugout. I just hope they don't try to out intensity each other. They have the potential to be annoying. It could get old really quick.
-
I'll take him over Freese or Lawrie.
-
National League bats scare the hell out of me. Upton and Frazier could turn out to be American League busts.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 6, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Just build. Kenny Williams (and this has Williams written all over it) is ridiculously obsolete. This stuff doesn't work. But the Sox do it year after year after year. Where does Trayce fit into this? They don't even have the patience to find out if 2015 was at least somewhat real? He could decline .100 OPS points and still really help the team. How do you know it's Kenny Williams? What if Jerry Reinsdorf is telling them to field a team that will get fans to the park? JR might be the one preventing a full scale rebuild because he doesn't want to lose any more money with empty stadiums.
