QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 09:35 AM) I'm quite thankful for the WBC this year--whatever your feelings about it are, it's a hell of a lot more exciting to watch than spring training games, which get excruciating after the first or second one. I'm a baseball fan, so WBC >>>> NFL or NBA or NCAA.

Can't wait for those long summer days when you sit in the couch and veg out watching the ball game with a cold Hacker-Pschorr and the laptop posting in the game thread on soxtalk...

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) Cleveland went from a 72 win team to an 82 win team, and in the process spent about $120 million. Just like the Royals, who probably went from a 75 win team to an 82 win team. You're right about the White Sox (at least I hope you are), but Cleveland now has an experienced manager who knows how to win, and an excited fanbase that will probably start showing up to the Jake in droves, which will give them more money to spend at the deadline. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) That's not that bad of a deal. The Indians' lineup is looking a lot better now with Swish, Bourn, and Reynolds. Right now it's probably 1. Bourn CF 2. Cabrera SS 3. Kipnis 2B 4. Santana C 5. Swisher RF 6. Reynolds 1B 7. Chisenhall 3B 8. Stubbs LF 9. Brantley DH They still don't have very good pitching, but that lineup should score some runs. At least the Cleveland is trying to improve. It seems like every team in the AL Central made improvements except the White Sox. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 05:41 AM) I forgot the Tribe got Stubbs. Underrated behind those guys in Cincy. Your avi is distracting as hell. But it's a good distraction -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 01:52 PM) Amazing. Goes to show you the effect dogs have on people. Goes to show you the effect dogs have on wack jobs. God I'm glad he isn't in a White Sox uniform anymore. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 05:44 PM) Seriously? That 8.28 ERA he put up last year scares? Of course not, that was coming off of TJ surgery. His performance in the years before he was injured scares me. Maybe it's just taking him a little longer to fully recover. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 10, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) Indians sign Jason Giambi and Daisuke Matsuzaka. Good times. I'm not worried about Giambi having that much of an impact, but Dice K? That could be trouble for the Sox. At least the Indians are TRYING to do something. -
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 14, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Hahn's offseason has been garbage. There was a fork in the road and instead of picking a direction he pulled off the road and took a nap... Sig worthy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) It doesn't surprise me at all. I bet he would be a much better pitcher sans Ozzie. I agree. I'd take him if it didn't take that much to get him.

Now the Tigers are going after JJ Hardy. All of the White Sox's division rivals are making moves to improve. Hell, the crosstown rival is even improving. And all hear out of the new GMs office is *crickets*

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 12:44 PM) Trades are going to happen pretty soon. They will not be going to spring training as currently constructed. I hope you're right, but I'm not a believer. I think this is probably it plus a few minor moves here and there. From now on until something happens, I'm going to refer to Rick Hahn as "Bernie" - as in Weekend at Bernie's.

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) May 22, 1990: Fisk scolded and lectured the Yankees’ Deion Sanders on Yankee Pride at homeplate during the Sox 5-2 loss to New York. Fisk’s lecture was apparently over Sanders’ lack of hustle and his lackadaisical demeanor on baseball’s hallowed ground and prompted both benches to clear but no punches were thrown. This is probably the #1 reason I dislike Fisk. Sanders wasn't on his team and Fisk should have minded his own business. Deion Sanders should have told him to GTFOH.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 05:30 AM) I'd have Washington, Jefferson, T. Roosevelt, and Lincoln. I'd just put giant White Sox hats on their heads. Add President Obama in his White Sox hat and that monument would be bleepin' golden!

Thomas, Konerko, Baines, and Hawk I will always think of Carlton Fisk as a Red Sawx. And Buehrle? Let's just say that I am glad he no longer wears a White Sox uniform.

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) I'll guess Ryan Howard. Where would he play? EDIT: I think I just answered my own question Any f***ing where he wanted to play.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) I was just going to say that. Utley makes the most sense to me by the description given. He's a grinder, and a risk since he hasn't been 100% healthy the last few years. I'd be surprised that the Phillies trade him, but maybe something along the lines of Rios + Beckham for him? I believe the Phillies are still looking for a corner OF. And trading Rios creates the hole that would need to be filled that was also mentioned. Eh... I'm not sure trading Rios and Beckham for Chase Utley makes the White Sox better That move would have to be followed by a Hamilton signing.

Everyone in my family was always a Cubs fan. As a kid, we always took field trips to Cubs games. I never ever heard anything about the White Sox... it was like they didn't even exist. When I got older, I wanted to be different, so I started following the Sox. And it really sealed the deal when Kenny Williams took over. I was excited that he was one of the first and only minorities running a major league franchise, and believe it or not, I am almost related to the guy.

QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) Keep trying to buy a championship. It won't work in baseball anymore... The Yanks just did it in 2009. It's not guaranteed to work, but it still works sometimes. Teams like Oakland and Tampa Bay are nice stories, but star power and talent are important too. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 02:21 PM) I hope they spend lots of money doing it too. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) Agreed, if they're willing to lock up $90MM on 5 players, I won't stop them. Who cares if they win for the next few years and block the White Sox from getting back to the World Series? -

Is anyone else worried that the Tigers will go after Josh Hamilton in the offseason? They will already have Victor Martinez back, and from what I hear, Mike Illitch is an old bastard who is also a billionaire and is willing to do ANYTHING to win it all before he dies. You add Martinez and Hamilton to that line up, and they can afford to be atrocious defensively.
