  1. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) Adam Russell has a 5.25 with Portland as well. Though he actually has been decent. He's got 4 saves, and of the 9 appearances he's had, all 7 runs he gave up were in 1 outing. Of course, 6 BB in 12 IP is not so good. Again, at least Clayton is giving them a bit on the return. I think Russell was called up.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Or a blessing in disguise. Shut him down for the rest of the year and get everything back to 100% for next year. This year's team has been done before this road trip failure. I agree shut Peavy down, don't mess with the elbow.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) I am pretty surprised to see Jonnie Lowe, Henry Mabee and Jacob Rasner on that list. I figured there would be other guys ahead of them. I think Cassell is a non prospect.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) I'd still rather have Hudson pitch Saturday in Yankee Stadium than Contreras. I'll take my chances. How do you say designated for assignment in spanish? Thanks for the memories Jose but good riddance, get him out of here.
  5. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Carter with a meh outing yesterday: 5 IP, 3 runs, 3 hits, 3 BB, 7 K's. From Baseball America's Not So Hot Sheet: Dexter Carter, rhp, Padres: If it were up to Carter, he'd probably want to go back to the South Atlantic League. Carter wowed with a line of 6-2, 3.13 for Kannapolis, which was even more impressive considering he posted 143 strikeouts and just 32 walks in 118 innings. But since being traded to the Padres in the Jake Peavy deal, the 22-year-old has gone 1-2, 9.98, allowing 21 hits and 9 walks in 15 1/3 innings pitched for low Class A Fort Wayne. And Thursday night was Carter's worst outing yet. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound Carter allowed eight runs on six hits while walking one and hitting two batters . . . all in one-third of an inning. On the bright side, SAL managers voted Carter as having the league's best breaking pitch.
  6. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) Didn't that money go into the Rios/Peavy fund? You are probably right, just having some hope to sign some more prospects.
  7. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) I think Crow can sign up until next year's draft because he played for an indy league team, indy league guys and college seniors are not subject to tonight's deadline. Let's use the money we allocated for Morgado and others to go get some of those Cuban defectors.
  8. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 11:05 PM) so the only two first rounders unsigned with a couple minutes left are Strasburg and Crow (again). I think Crow can sign up until next year's draft because he played for an indy league team, indy league guys and college seniors are not subject to tonight's deadline.
  9. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Morgado probably wants high first round money like every other 3rd rounder in the country. I normally always advocate spending heavily on the farm system but this year it is getting really bad. Some of these 2rd-7th or so round players are getting more money guaranteed than Orlando Hudson got guaranteed on his last contract. That is f***ing ridiculous. We really need Morgado in our system because of the lack of lefty pitching prospects, but after bringing in Rios and Peavy I understand the Sox passing if his demands are outrageous. I'm sure the Sox are/were prepared to go well above slot for him anyway. Morgado is getting bad advice, he is also coming off TJ surgery and we were probably offering second round type money. He will not be drafted that high next year, no chance.
  10. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Santeria works wonders. I think that the MLB (and NFL for that matter) should adopt the NBA's amateur draft framework. You have to declare yourself eligible for the draft and if you do so then the team that picks you has your rights essentially forever. They also have to sign a relatively short term contract that falls within a particular slotting range. So if you think that you're hot s*** and won't sign for anything less than top dollar then you don't sign at all and can go play in japan or something. The way it is the agents/players have the teams over the barrel and it's just a bunch of BS. Just the same problem with the NFL right now, unproven players should not be getting these HUGE amounts of money and taking cash out of the pockets of proven veterans. If you're really the s*** then you'll cash in on your second contract and there won't be any problems. But Strasburg wanting 50 mil b4 he's thrown a professional pitch is crap. I'll put a voodoo curse on anyone who holds out for more money. All summer we have been hoping to sign two of the remaining unsigned picks, if all the signals are true we might not sign anyone else. How will we view this draft if no other picks are signed? I'm still happy about Mitchell and Thompson. Did we get Phegley and Thompson with the extra picks for Cabrera?
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) Yeah but if you don't spend the money to sign your third rounder (who you draft that high because you think he has legit ML potential) then you are seriously hampering your ability to produce said 2-3 quality major leaguers. This guy had no intention on returning to college after (I believe) leaving this year on a bad note with the team, so you have to wonder why the Sox drafted him and did not sign him. It's not like he is Strasburg asking for the moon, he probably only is asking $500,000 more than the Sox want to give. If this has been addressed already, I apologize, but do we get compensation if we do not sign Morgado? For example, do the Sox get an extra third round pick next year?
  12. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) while i would love to have Chapman i would prefer we go after Noel Argüelles I wonder if we are not pursuing any more of our draft picks and instead diverting some of that money toward some of the Cubans who recently defected.
  13. Thompson, 1-3 with an RBI and a BB I'll take it
  14. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) Looks like Bellamy deserves a shot at Winston Salem now. Any word on Trace Thompson's debut?
  15. Hi all, I'm driving the family to Disney next weekend and convinced my wife that we should go through Birmingham so we can see the Barons, I'll be there on Saturday night. If anyone has any interesting tips of has any idea as to whom might be pitching, it would be appreciated.
  16. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) From the Barons clubhouse manager Jeff Perro: That makes me more nervous that he is going to be traded then.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 01:22 AM) Great news, now throw lots of money at Goodwin. I promise that if the Sox sign Goodwin I'll never b**** about the Brandon Allen trade again (unless they trade Goodwin for a middle reliever). I would really love to sign Goodwin as well, but it seems like we are down to Morgado and Jones from this draft class. I am still trying to be optimistic about Phegley, but the Williams/Thompson combo is exciting.
  18. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Baseball America's scouting report indicates he would be an easy sign as well. We are probably going to be in a drought of signing rumors/news until August 15th. I just quickly scanned the Cape Cod league All Star list and did not see Morgado on the list, not sure what that means.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) Ugh. I hate this trade. Let's try to forget about Allen. On top of it, Pena has been downright terrible for us.
  20. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) One would think so, but is he without a school, I thought he was being pushed out at U of Tenn along with some others. Maybe after he started pitching well UT had second thoughts. I thought he might be the easiest sign of all due to that situation. Baseball America's scouting report indicates he would be an easy sign as well. We are probably going to be in a drought of signing rumors/news until August 15th.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) Jared Mitchell is at the Cell tonight, and is taking media questions, sounds like he's committed to sign and it could be soon. Ok, this is my virgin post, so which of the other draft picks still remaining do you (we) think we will sign? Mogado, Thompson, Jones, Goodwin? How many is realistic? This is a great forum!! Thanks to everyone who keeps this active.
