  1. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) Usually a CY Young year is a "career year" lol. And how anyone can say those numbers are just okay is beyond me. What does Garza, Sheilds, Dempsters career numbers look like. Not close to that You're the one who said it was a joke to call 09 a career year. Obviously a Cy Young season is going to be a pitchers best year but holy s*** how do you not see the glaring contrast between that year and every single other one? It's not like he was a tick better than his average season. Career ERA+: 115 2009: 205 Career ERA: 3.79 2009: 2.16 Career WHIP: 1.251 2009: 1.073 That's f***ing drastic
  2. After looking at those ERA+/ERA numbers over his last 5.5 seasons it's actually striking how big of an outlier than 09 year was
  3. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) Wow that's all I can say. Go look at stats before you just say the guy is eh just okay. Zach Grienke has some of the best stuff in baseball. Period. If you can get a Cy young player during a playoff run you do. And a career year, what a joke, I have posted his stats plenty. Dempster can't dominate a game with his stuff he is a location pitcher. And im sorry I don't want to take a chance on a guy who more than likely would get lit up by the likes of Det, NYY, TX, LAA. And let's not forget Dempsters horrible injury proneness. I'm sorry I just don't get how people can sit there and logically argue Zach Greinke is not one of the best pitchers in the game today. I guess all the scouts, writers, announcers, real baseball people that are around it day in day out are wrong. My bad ZG is a 28 year old lucky has been with his best years behind him. Forget his 122/28 K/BB average this year. ERA+ by year (ERA) 2007 - 124 (3.69) 2008 - 125 (3.47) 2009 - 205 (2.16) 2010 - 100 (4.17) 2011 - 103 (3.83) 2012 - 120 3.44) So actually yeah, the stats do say that was a career year.
  4. SportsCenter ‏@SportsCenter Bud Selig says on "The Mike Lupica Show" he will expand instant replay to include trapped balls in the outfield & balls hit down the line. Could be a Diamond Club thread but I figured it was relevant enough for PHT.
  5. I would gladly include both Viciedo and Quintana, and anything the hell else they want.
  6. Sister car accident and two brothers gang-related shootings
  7. Former 2nd round pick, 35th overall in 2010. 2009 Pac 10 Defensive Player of the year and All American.
  8. WTF? Big 10 is moving the ball to the 25 on touch backs now?
  9. Jeremy Werner ‏@WernerConnectFM Illini assistants waited at a restaurant in State College - off PSU campus - for players that wanted to talk to them. Jeremy Werner ‏@WernerConnectFM #illini Tim Beckman said 8 assistants were in State College but not on the PSU campus. They didn't go to players, had players come to them. Jeremy Werner ‏@WernerConnectFM #illini Tim Beckman said 2 PSU players contacted him before he pursued. Had previous relationships with players when recruited at Toledo
  10. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) It's not like they didn't try. Dwight/Lebron/Wade, they didn't want to come here. It had nothing to do with money. Again, how is that Jerry's fault? At least put the blame where it belongs. Is there other ways to acquire a number 2 option besides free agency?
  11. Some crazy Trout stats from FanGraphs
  12. Wait...so they weren't just trolling the parking lot convincing re-committed players to jump ship? Also, Twitter being down during Big 10 Media Day is not ideal
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) The new Northwestern Unis are pretty tight http://www.nusports.com/sports/m-footbl/sp.../072612aaa.html Yep. Saw some writers on Twitter bashing them a little bit this morning but I am a pretty big fan, those are nice
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) Beckman just said that yes they were at state college, however they actually were not on campus (or camping out in the parking lot) recruiting players. They were there for those that did want to meet with them. He covered this before even being asked about it by the media. :lolhitting
  15. To be completely honest the Kirk Hinrich signing is a major dark cloud (for me) over an offseason that was otherwise relatively neutral. He's aging badly, he's not very good, and I don't like him.
  16. Ironically enough I barely give a f*** about the Illinois football program and am one of the biggest bashers of this bulls*** pathetic program so that's a pretty weak retort. Heaven forbid they head to State College to recruit a kid who wants out of Penn State and expressed interest in their program, with no time for him to make multiple campus visits.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) Again, the kids wanting to go somewhere else, is much different than camping out in the PSU parking lot. They went to visit at least one player who has already publicly expressed interest in their program: http://pittsburgh.sbnation.com/penn-st-nit...nois-penn-state Seeing as how it would be rather difficult for these players to visit other campuses in such a short window...
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) But it is still taking advantage of a situation made possible by the protection of a child molester by an entire university. If Illinois wants to take advantage of that, I can damned well blame them and lose respect for them. Anything to win football games though... All I said from the beginning is that they are doing nothing differently and deserve no special attention than any other school who has done the same exact thing, and by accounts there are many of those schools. By this logic it is a shame to offer kids who WANT TO TRANSFER the chance at an equivalent level of football, earn an equivalent degree from a Big Ten program, and play football for a program that has some chance of achieving success on the field. And for the talk of the player doing the reaching out: http://pittsburgh.sbnation.com/penn-st-nit...nois-penn-state This came out before the Illini coaches stepped foot in Happy Valley, and was likely a major reason for their visit.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) Illinois doesn't deserve to be singled out. But it doesn't excuse them from the bottom feeding going on here either. Just like being in a pack of people going 80 on the interstate, not everyone gets caught. Illinois just happened to be the one who got busted here. But going 80 on the interstate is illegal by the regulations of that entity. Recruiting Penn State's players right now is not. Blame the NCAA, not the schools taking advantage of it.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) You said in order to be competitive teams had to recruit like this. Wisconsin is the favored team in the Big Ten this year, and they aren't doing it. And of course Bielema isn't going to call out the rest of the coaches in the Big 10. He isn't stupid. And obviously it isn't wrong. But it is slimy and disgusting. The only reason these kids are available is because their school and coach protected a child molester. Schools wanting to profit from that are no better than any of the other dirty recruiters out there. It doesn't matter if it is Illinois or anyone else. I say good for the Badgers. That gives me a lot more respect for them. It's a lot easier to do/say that when you are Wisconsin and you really have no use for most of the players on Penn State's roster given your position within your conference already. A Penn State player EXPRESSED INTEREST IN PLAYING FOR ILLINOIS before any of the coaches even went there. Whether you think the entire practice is messed up or not really has nothing to do with the point I have been making all along, and that is that its beyond stupid to single out Illinois when they are one of God only knows how many teams following these exact same practices.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) So Wisconsin isn't competitive? Illinois roster lacks talent, there are several "free agent" football players who are extremely talented, many of these players have received as many as FIFTY scholarship offers already, many teams had coaching staffs on Penn States campus and in "the parking lot". What about that suggests that Illinois had done anything worthy of singling out compared to the rest of the schools doing the same exact thing? Just because Wisconsin and some other schools are choosing not to does not make it wrong for Illinois and countless other schools to engage in what they are doing. Same press conference: (OH WOW!) Jeremy Werner ‏@WernerConnectFM Bielema said he's not upset with other coaches that do recruit PSU players but that he did not feel comfortable doing it
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:15 AM) Not everyone is doing it... JJ Stankevitz ‏@JJStankevitz Bielema says UW won't reach out to Penn State players. Obviously not EVERYONE is doing it that was never the point either.
  23. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) Other than camping out in PSU parking lots? http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ca.../1#.UBFM37SvKSo http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...penly-recruited As I said, still waiting for this definitive evidence to suggest they should be singled out compared to any other school. The above quotes suggest to the contrary of your claim that they are the only ones. So we know Illinois coaches were seen at the airport by coach O'Brien, and we know that "several groups of coaches" were at parking lots. Jumping to conclusions. "I was simply defending the fact that they really haven't done anything to warrant being singled out or trashed compared to any other school." Fact. Say what you will about the overall situation and how it is being handled across college football and by the NCAA, but Illinois is plain and simple doing nothing differently than a vast number of other programs. And before the retort of "just because other programs are doing it doesn't make it right"...yes, in college football it pretty much does. The competitive slimey nature of recruiting dominates the landscape and in order to stay competitive when there are a number of highly talented players available you must do what other programs do. Not to mention, the first player who seemed to have any intentions of leaving PSU was an OT from Arizona who was said to favor Illinois.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) Who cares? I sure dont, just mentioned that he named the coaches who called him in his press conference this morning. I hope Urban is going after every recruit that is committed to PSU. Like I said, nobody outside of Happy Valley will care that PSU players are going elsewhere, they will probably send hate mail to your AD and Beckman. I certainly give zero f***s and hope that Illinois can land as many talented players as they please. I was simply defending the fact that they really haven't done anything to warrant being singled out or trashed compared to any other school.
