Strapped for cash and adding a mediocre starter who makes a lot of money next year

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) oh yes, lets cry about Thome some more Hard not to when a team makes such a mind numbingly horrible decision
-
At least we made up for the complete botching of the DH situation in the offseason.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) I don't get why Berkman is a douche. He waived his no-trade to come here. They didn't make a deal. Big whoop. No, he rejected a trade here
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) How did it hurt here? Berkman waived his NTC so he COULD play for the Sox. No it's saying he exercised his right to rejected a trade.

CANT BELIEVE KENNY MISSED OUT ON BERKMAN WHAT A DUMBASS!!!
-
Nightengale #mlb Curiously, Lance Berkman had recently exercised his no-trade rights for possible deal with White Sox before accepting Yankees' trade.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) Its not the loss of Hudson Im all that worried about, its the fact we dont ahve a cheap young starter to fill out our rotation anymore and we just keep adding to a payroll that will force key contributors out during teh offseason without having viable replacements for them. With regards to that I would hope the Sox would have more foresight towards next years roster, but if this contract does come back and cripple them then yes you are all right. They are high

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Okay, fair enough. Trust me I'm not oozing my pants over this trade, but at the same time I'm not incredibly devastated over the loss of Daniel Hudson as many others seem to be. He became highly overvalued around these parts.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) You pretty much said it when you said: "this guy was so highly regarded and sought after then why didn't the Nationals jump at a chance to trade Dunn for him?" And yeah, Hudson probably is overvalued on this board. But it still doesn't make the trade make anymore sense. Hudson is a young, cheap pitcher with potential to be at least a 4 or 5 in the big leagues. Jackson is an older, a LOT more expensive pitcher who does have some potential but has shown to be nothing but a 4 or 5 starter after more than a couple years of pitching in the big leagues already. I'd have no problem if we traded Harrell and Holmberg for Jackson... but it was dumb to trade our most valuable young pitching prospect for him. Regarding the bolded part, I already said I agree with most on the trade and Hudson vs. Jackson, but the value of Hudson on this board and what he could have fetched around the league had gotten out of hand. And the part you quoted is far from me saying "well we got nothing good for him so he must suck", what i'm saying is the way he is talked about around here you would think the Nationals would easily give up half a season of Dunn for him.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I find it hilarious when people use the "well, that is all we got from them, so obviously he couldn't have been that good" argument. I never once said that, so I'm not sure who you are referring to. But there is a massive disconnect between people on here's value of Hudson, and every major league teams value of Hudson.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) It doesnt matter what he was ranked, but he was the best, young, cheap pitcher that had the chance to have an impact NOW and in the future with the Sox. You just traded him for a pitcher with just as many question marks, but who is older and has an $8.5 mill price tag. I'm not defending the trade, I'm on the same page as most with regards to Hudson vs. Jackson. But it's not like trading Hudson was some colossal disaster, his value clearly wasn't very high around the league.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) It's about as irrelevant as when you said you would laugh when Hudson never becomes anything good. That really doesn't matter at all. Hudson can become a stud or he can become Josh Fogg, who the hell knows at this point? But what we do know is that he was our top prospect, or maybe no. 2 behind Viciedo, and it was dumb to trade him for a pitcher who is older, a lot more expensive, and as big of a question mark as Hudson is. It doesn't make any f***ing sense! But in the grand scheme of things what the f*** does it matter if he's our number 2 prospect? He's the 2nd tallest midget. If this guy was so highly regarded and sought after then why didn't the Nationals jump at a chance to trade Dunn for him?
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) As funny as it was when Gio would never be able to make it in the bigs? I don't know who said that, but that is irrelevant.
-
It will be pretty funny when Hudson never becomes anything close to a 2 starter
-
Viciedo in the lineup for tonight
-
So according to Cowley this would mean the "shock the world" trade he mentioned wont occur

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I just happened to be watching and picturing him in a Sox uni at the exact moment of contact, it was quite an experience. I think I need to go change my pants. Would love to add some of that sweet, sweet oppo power to a team that doesn't hit a lot of balls out the other way. Hahahaha, that is quite odd considering I was doing basically the exact same thing...
-
Dunn just smacked his 24th bomb of the year on a line to left center field
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) I would imagine he means they'd score 30 more points per game. Which is obviously dumb. So he's either saying they are gonna win 71 games, 43 games, or score 127.5 ppg. Got it
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) He said 30 points better. So they will finish with a .530 W%, 43 wins?
