  1. I really like this lineup, though I think it's pretty apparent that TLR is resting Tim for the entirety of the indoor turf series to rest/protect his legs. I'll be surprised if we see him today, but I fully expect him back for the cubs series.
  2. And now the latest drama in the Yermin saga provided by Hector Gomez, Yermin intimating he's going to play in Japan? I don't know why it's even worth sharing at this point but here we are.
  3. This might start the conversation on the face masks, though. Some softball pitchers wear the softball mask (like a very limited facemask frame) that protects them from direct hits to the face. We saw more batters adopt the extended batting helmet with the cheek protector that protects the jaw after the Giancarlo Stanton injury, just like we saw more batters wear the helmet with the first earflap years ago. As a sport, baseball is so stubborn to adopt change, but it's only reasonable to protect players. But with a sport that still sees players wearing button-ups as a uniform, it'll probably be pretty slow to adopt this.
  4. I still don't get how a guy that had an 8+ ERA in the minors this year (and not even through a SSS of like 3 games) gets called up and suddenly dominates, even given what he had flashed a few years ago. Baseball is a fickle sport and defies logic. And I love it.
  5. That's the whole art of pitching - throw something that *looks* good for a split second and get them to swing at something they can't hit. You don't want every pitch thrown in the strike zone, it's not a videogame.
  6. Man, Tony has got to be at full mast after that execution of single-steal-productive out-sac bunt.
  7. Going to my first game in Chicago in over 7 years. Been looking forward to this weekend all year, let's get the W!
  8. Watching every possible video with every angle, every call. Give me MOAR. I need all of the fan reacs, drone shots, field level, no announcers. Everything. What an iconic moment that we will not soon forget.
  9. I'm honestly surprised that ESPN didn't steal the Sunday broadcast against the Yankees for Sunday Night Baseball. I bought tickets a couple months back when the was time TBD and kept my eye on it.
  10. And these series between KC-CHC-MIN will serve as a perfect ramping up period to hit a good stride with confidence before the stretch against tougher opponents. Just win, baby, win.
  11. Why is no one talking about this? His name was thrown out there weeks ago but it's been very quiet. Angels in general have been quiet, 6 games back in the wildcard and a load of teams ahead of them. Low salary so prospect price might be higher, but also a rental as he's a FA next year. Might be the consolation prize for whoever misses on Kimbrel, or you can sneak in now and get him before the Kimbrel deal sets the high water mark.
  12. I know I'll catch flak from the "why do you even care about the cubs crowd", but I secretly want the cubs to bungle all of their trades for all of their stars like Bryant, Baez, Rizzo, and Kimbrel, and then watch those guys all walk in the off-season with the Cubs doing nothing to improve their position moving forward.
  13. Why is the Trevor Story thread locked after the Nightengale tweet saying we're interested?
  14. Had one of these situations at the Cape Cod League game this past weekend. Sitting out by the opposing bullpen, bunch of 20 year olds that know they aren't pitching that day and just having a fun time out of it. Every play for the home team, these guys are jawing them, making jokes like "showboat didn't need to dive", anything like that - any "plus" play the home team made was getting derided by these guys having a fun time. Then there's a hot liner at the RFer into the setting sun, RFer made an awesome play diving in on the ball hit straight at him. Opposing bullpen all stood up and clapped for him. Game respects game.
  15. That's about how hard he runs to first base anyway, looks like he's back to normal ?
  16. He's, uh, rather infamous on Twitter. He's definitely a known quantity.
  17. Everyone knows the Dodgers want to upgrade pitching to replace Bauer, given that he might never play for them again. My guess is that the Dodgers are serious about this and that the Padres know it and want to drive LA's prospect price up.
  18. What this series has told me is that the trade for Lynn was a damn fine decision.
  19. Yeah but how many double plays has he grounded into, hmmm? ?
  20. Why did sports collectively agree that animals (particularly birds and big cats) are the go-to team name and mascot? Because they're boring and non-offensive. Kudos to Cleveland for trying something with their identity. You're always going to get those people that are upset when something goes against the grain, even if it plays to the local identity and the area supporting the team likes it. Hell, look at the mixed reviews and backlash Kannapolis got on their rebrand to the Cannonballers. Local connection but still has broad appeal and a fun mascot. It's always going to happen that way, and then we'll all get used to it.
  21. The more I read about the Cleveland identity thing with the wings on the G logo and everything tying into the statutes that are a staple in the city, the more I can come around on it. I think it's dumb and sounds like a soccer team. But Cleveland people seem to really like it and have that civic pride as it fits with their identity, and that's all that really matters.
