  1. There's no perfect solution, obviously, but thinking about moving Vaughn to RF in September just before the playoffs makes me cringe. I keep thinking of Nelson Cruz and the route he took in RF during the David Freese Game in the 2011 World Series that cost Texas the championship. Obviously, in this last scenario Vaughn would've been benched for a defensive sub late in the game, but stands as an example of the defense vs. offense argument when it comes to the playoffs.
  2. I fully expect Grandal to give up a passed ball run here.
  3. Might've just rolled over that one, got it in the ribs?
  4. Eat your heart out, Grandal stans.
  5. This will be LaRussa's reunion game with the Cards, so of course ESPN wanted those broadcast rights. Get a bucket a ready because the on-screen graphics and forced references to his time in StL are going to be nauseating.
  6. These stories are weird because on the one hand you get some that are "how the hell can we hit that?? That's cheating!", and then on the other hand you get "I'd prefer they use something to be able to control their pitches rather than throw 102 mph and not know where it's going". I don't know what the regulation looks like but it sounds like most people agree pitchers need *something* to help them control the ball, but also *not too much* that they're getting wiffle ball movement. The obvious course of action would be produce a better ball and enforce a ban on substances, but MLB will find a way to cock that up too.
  7. No thank you. Look, I love Bryce Harper and think he would be a lot fun to watch for a couple years. But I want no part in bailing out some team of their mega deal and be left holding the (very heavy) bag for 8 more years. Look at what's happened to the Angels' flexibility the last few years and where Pujols is now.
  8. Jeeze, sounds like this place really needs some on-field action to talk about. Two hours to first pitch, let's do it.
  9. Yo looks like he's having so much fun. I love this and I love this team.
  10. Guaranteed Yermin already had that in his closet already. 50/50 Madrigal did too and has just been ITCHING for a chance to wear it.
  11. Duplicate posts but I'll use this opportunity to say LarRussa is an ass.
  12. The absolute arrogance behind his "Lance has a locker. I have an office." Wow. Way to win over the clubhouse, dripping of condescension. Fuck LaRussa forever and always.
  13. A win today would be great to quell things. A loss means two losses in a row with two nights off before a road trip for everyone sit around and dwell on all of the negativity. That's a lot of time to field questions from the media about the Yermin/TLR actions, how the clubhouse is, etc. Don't need that. Let's get the win, win the series, and leave Minnesota in better spirits.
  14. White Sox fans are to managers what Bears fans are to starting quarterbacks by week 6 of the season.
  15. Hell yeah. It's astounding how many baseball people are Team Yermin on this one, further demonstrating how out of touch TLR is.
  16. How foolish of you to not expect our boy Jake Lamb to be batting second! Mercy.
  17. Yep, you see that in hockey - one guy wants to start a fight to fire up his team, but the other guy needs to accept. You see it more often now where the player from the team that is already cruising and doesn't need a spark will turn down the fight. And that's the difference with baseball - we don't get a chance to be like "no thanks", they'll just drill a player if they want to.
  18. Good reminder that this was our roster in 2019. We're just two years removed from an outfield that featured names like Cordell, Skole, Palka, Tilson, and Jay. Two years. We're pretty spoiled that we only have to complain about 2-3 spots on the roster.
  19. Tom Verducci just did an extended dive on Yermin Mercedes on MLBN, drawing up comps. He compared Yerm to the following: Josh Donaldson's ability to crush the fastball Jose Canseco's aggressiveness and power with less than two strikes Paul Molitor's ability to put it in play on two strikes Yogi Berra's ability to hit anything "from the nose to the toes" Lot of high praise from Verducci and tall comparisons. Obviously still "young" in his pro career to live up to those laudits, but awesome that he's getting the attention and recognition for what he's doing.
  20. Wait, did the Sox just do Cleveland's "run scored Mario coin" sound effect when they recorded the first out? I didn't hear it on the K and the bumper music played after the last out, maybe I'm I'm just hearing things. Certainly hope we're not using Cleveland's schtick, though.
  21. 5-out save for Liam. Yermin pinch-hit clutch. Timmy first pitch dinger swagger. Billy Hamilton doing Billy Hamilton things. Sweep the damn Twins. LFG!
  22. Jeeze, flashbacks to Gordon Beckham tripping over the mound to blow it right there.
