  1. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Where there any stipulations about wearing something over it? or maybe inside out? I have to wear it in the normal fashion for the 8 hours of the work day. After that, I'm free to do anything I want to do with it. Suggestions?
  2. I lost a bet a while ago and have to wear a cubs jersey to work for a day. Today is the day I finally had to pay up. Mortifying sitting around in a Derek Lee jersey all day.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Keep it down there And I'll get it just in time to ruin my weekend. (Though I guess the rest of New England is happy about skiing).
  4. Adam Dunn is going to be in a Matthew McConaughey movie. True story.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 7, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) I love the idea of spin offs, just not those (well Boba Fett could be good, no interest at all in a Han Solo movie). But the Yoda movie rumored could be fun, the rumored Star Wars Seven Samurai inspired movie could be really good and then if you set movies in different time periods in the expanded universe you have a lot of great stories to work with. I can't shake this image at the thought of Star Wars spin offs.
  6. Fun read for The Best 50 Baseball Players Not In the HOF. White Sox notes: Shoeless Joe Jackson is ranked 4th. Dick Allen is ranked 12th. Minnie Minoso is ranked 33rd. Harold Baines was ranked 45th last year but dropped out of the top 50 this year.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) His mechanics are much more fluid and safer than Strasburg's. I'm afraid of his inverted-W, as are the folks at Baseball Prospectus. Pictures of Chris Sale That Make Me Uncomfortable
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 01:11 PM) Knights @ Pawtucket 6:05 Leesman Barons @ Tennessee 6:15 Rienzo Dash won 5-3 2 hits for Semien, Sanchez Thompson 1-3, BB, no K! Kanny won 5-3 Buch 5 scoreless with no walks Voyagers @ Billings 8:05 Bristol @ Elizabethton 6 Going to the Knights game, en route right now. Taking the train out from Boston to catch my first Knights game. Very excited as Zach Stewart takes the hill for the PawSox and might be a chan ce to see Veal if/before he gets called up.
  9. Do we have any Wes Anderson fans in here? I'm an absolute nerd about his films; love every one of them. I've been so excited for Moonrise Kingdom to come out but I still haven't gotten out to see it. Fun cast, as always (and Edward Norton? One of my top 5). I know it's in limited release (only two theaters in the greater Boston area so far) but I was wondering if anyone has gotten out to see it yet? The trailer had me smiling the whole time, seems like classic Wes. I plan to be getting out to see it this Sunday and will check back with my thoughts (though I can already say that, judging by the trailer, I'm going to love it).
  10. Just... what? Praise for DJ over Farmer? I know Hawk is a homer and gets flak for his 'Hawkisms' and such, Farmer has his faults as well, but anyone saying anything positive about DJ is laughable. This is the same guy that took two innings to tell the story of his travels on the road as a minor league player and how he ate a Tylenol gel-cap off of the floor of his car thinking it was a red jellybean. Oh-do-tell me more, please. The man is so full of himself on every broadcast, no matter the medium, thinks he is the funniest guy around. DJ, talk about the game. I understand he's a (poor) color guy but he detracts from every broadcast he does. He got demoted from TV to radio but don't worry, "that was his dream job...!" Horse ****, he wasn't moved because he wanted it; he was moved because he's a trashcake. Farmer does his best to continue the broadcasts despite having DJ around. I get the feeling the Farmer merely tolerates having DJ in the booth; there is only very forced camaraderie there, even baited jabs. No, if we're to pick on one of our announcers (besides the easy target of Hawk), it should be that no-talent ass-clown DJ.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2012 -> 11:50 PM) Just read Deadspin. Very well done. A blog site built on satire doesn't get satire. Maybe I can e-mail a QB penis picture into them now. 22 hours ago Standing room only in the media closet at the Berto Center. So this is what a team's playoff funeral looks like. BREAKING NEWS: Rose ACL is still torn. More to come. Been a long time since I've used my medical background to sketch an injury ... might be time to dust off the notepad. RT @willbrinson: Creating a parody account for @cst_cowley would be amusing. Unfortunately it would also be redundant. 23 hours ago Someone hit him with the following, lol... The Scorpion and the Frog is a fable about a scorpion asking a frog to carry him across a river. The frog is afraid of being stung during the trip, but the scorpion argues that if it stung the frog, the frog would sink and the scorpion would drown. The frog agrees and begins carrying the scorpion, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When asked why, the scorpion points out that this is its nature. The fable is used to illustrate the position that the behaviour of some creatures is irrepressible, no matter how they are treated and no matter what the consequences. Ironically enough, I believe he actually tweeted a shortened version of this a month ago in a series of 3-4 tweets as a justification for why he writes negative things about the Sox. How apropos.
  12. QUOTE (mumbles3k @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 11:06 PM) This morning I watched Robert Altman's masterpiece, THE PLAYER. Truly one of the greatest movies ever made. Satire at its finest. Alright, I've IMDB'd it so I'll bite... give me more of a reason to watch this. Seems intriguing but like something I'll forget about and maybe watch on a Sunday afternoon in a few months. What was so good about it?
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) With that offense, on paper...and that pitching staff, on paper. Incredible. But so the White Sox fall in April and May last year after starting out 6-3 and then going something like 5-19. Nobody's been completed surprised by the Red Sox, due to the injuries to Crawford, Ellsbury and the lack of a bullpen...as well as all those veterans getting a year old (yeah, I know Ortiz was leading the league in hitting come into Sunday). But when you start an outfield of McDonald, Ross and Sweeney...well, that's not so good, even though Ryan's actually been hitting well for them. That they had to go out and eat most of the contract of one of the worst hitters in baseball right now (Marlon Byrd) is evidence enough of their desperation. Aviles isn't an everyday player, he wasn't even for the KC Royals. What I've been telling my coworkers is that I like Aviles... for the Royals, just not for the Red Sox. He's definitely good enough to make a team, just not highlight one. The Red Sox are in serious trouble, and Aviles does not make them better. I think it was you that asked the facetious question about NESN etc being shut down... The atmosphere here is not good. Everyone was riding the high of the 100 year anniversary but that has been the talk; that's all they've been looking forward to, acknowledging that they're in a bad place right now. Saturday's blown 9-run lead against the Yankees sounds like it is going to be a major talking point for the fans all season. I hope we don't have one of those.
  14. Besides seeing the cubs in last place (makes me smile), there are a few surprises at the back of their respective divisions right now: Red Sox, Angels, and Phillies (and Miami is second to last). Texas also has a scary 52+ run differential.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 09:14 PM) It boggles my mind how Konerko is that slow. It's not like he's out of shape or anything, he's just slow footed... Exactly my thoughts. I mean look at how quickly (relative) Fielder got around the bases today, almost tried to stretch out a triple. Big man can move.
  16. Red Sox DFA'd Michael Bowden of former Waubonsie Valley fame. They're also apparently stretching out Mark Prior...
  17. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) This is the free game of the day on MLB.TV for the out of towners too cheap to pay for it Damnit. In the library working on a final paper, each successive post in this thread has made me want to postpone the paper and run home to catch the game. Hearing that it's the free game just sealed the deal.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2012 -> 12:23 AM) Guessing 80-85% of America will be stuck with Yankees/Angels/Pujols, right? Then you've got Cubs/Cardinals and Mets/Phillies at 3. So forget seeing the Sox, lol. And at 9 you can catch the news coverage of me jumping off a bridge from having to watch the Yankees again.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Here we go, boys! The magic number is 16. Is this the only thread for the playoffs? No pseudo-gamethread for the Hawks?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) That has to be on the catcher too right? Martin was diving all over the place, wasn't just the 5 bad ones. Legit could have been two more, though one of the WPs charged could definitely be pegged on Martin.
  21. Sweaty Freddy Garcia threw 5 WPs in 4.2 IP tonight. He threw 4 all of last year.
  22. Wow, Toronto fans already booing him off of the field. Ouch.
  23. Santos has now blown two saves in Toronto, Santiago has converted two on the South Side.
  24. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) That looked bad. I hope Choo isn't hurt that much. Where did it get him?
