QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) I think he's going to have a helluva year. I think he had issues with Ozzie from day 1....OG didn't like some rookie coming in and stealing attention from the "face of the franchise". Walker obviously was unable to coach Gordon. I think having a different hitting coach and an intelligent and level-headed manager will do wonders for Gordon's confidence. What we saw in '09 wasn't a mirage...he looked like a very impressive hitter...that didn't just disappear. I tend to agree with this (optimistically). I think Robin will come in and have a positive effect on him, sit him down and help him through his issues. After all, many have talked about Robin's famous drought to begin his career at the plate and how Gordo had an analogous situation- who better to get Gordo on the right track than the guy with a proven track record?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Starting my new gig today, in Baaaahhhhhston Whoa, where are you working in Boston? I just moved out here 3 months ago, working in the Inspector General's office. What neighborhood are you living in?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) There are people who claim they are skilled enough at throwing dice to influence the outcome, but I've never seen proof. I think those people are called compulsive gamblers.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 19, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) What was that movie someone posted a few months back? It was from Hong Kong or something, about a raid on a den of mobsters. I'm guessing you're referring to my post that was about 'The Raid' from the Toronto Films Festival?

I saw Harold and Kumar in 3D last night. Pretty entertaining, pretty much exactly what i expected - gratuitous nudity, coke, NPH being awesome, ridiculousness. I was concerned they were going to be obnoxious with the 3D schtick throughout the movie but it's only over the top for the first few minutes. I think my favorite joke (that apparently went over the heads of everyone in the theater) . Overall, it was as-advertised, though I don't think it was worth the $16 for a 3D movie (especially on a Tuesday night).

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) I only listen to a couple but one thing that frustrates me is not being able to fast forward or rewind while using my iPod. Are there better programs for listening to podcasts? Either for an iPad or Android phone? And, to keep this all things podcast, what podcasts are y'all listening to? I usually will download two NPR shows, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me and Cartalk. What is Wait, Wait, Don't Tell me about? My podcasts are NPR's This American Life and the Adam Corolla Show. And for fans of This American Life, there was apparently a show made out of it (lasted two seasons) and is definitely worth checking out if you can find it.

I think I saw that before. It was called Mercury Rising. But whatever, it's Statham so I'm still going to watch it.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Having a boss you love could be motivation enough for someone to go another place. It happens all of the time. I buy that argument, though I think that would have made more sense had Ozzie left a couple years ago. Mark keeps hinting at about being done in a year or two, and relocating to Miami for a only a short time doesn't seem to fit with his plan (said not knowing what's actually going on in his head). And is it safe to say that 'Mark to the Nats' shouldn't have legs? -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Miami is kind of the opposite of the type of area Mark has appeared to want to live in though That was my thinking. What in his previous discussions about his future suggests he would want to up and move to Miami? Just months ago we were talking about how he may retire early to live out a quiet life with his family on their country property, and now the discussion is how the move to Miami would extend his career? I don't see how this makes sense from is perspective, aside from playing for Ozzie, and I just don't think that point is strong enough for him to make the move, no matter the price offered. -
It sounds like Joe Frazier is about to go as well. Dreading all of those 'witty' "down goes Frazier" puns on twitter and facebook. Book it.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Not at all. Your friend is full of s***. The only thing that was even remotely creepy was the fog that'd envelop the place on occasion. It's on a hill, so that was very Silent Hill-y. I was lucky enough to see it a few times in the fog, looks really neat. I had no idea it was even an asylum before, it looked so nice. And then I stumble upon this a couple days ago, shocker. I haven't seen it yet but I'm definitely checking it out this week.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) I lived there for a year. And yes, it's a good movie. Get out, you lived in that building for a year? I myself don't believe in anything like ghosts but my friend that lives there does; she's mentioned seeing some things. Any experience with that?

Has anyone seen/heard of this movie Session 9 from a few years back? I was looking around and some horror movie lists and it popped up as one of the top 5 scariest. I watched a preview of it and was stunned to see that I just stayed the weekend at that insane asylum a couple weeks ago. Apparently it's filmed at the old asylum in Danvers, MA just outside of Boston; it's since been converted into luxury apartments/condos. The movie itself looks super creepy and I think it would be doubly so knowing that I've already walked around the premises.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) That reminds me, did you hear the one about the Jew, the Gay, and the Nazi? Funny, that's how I end my resume.

Esquire has some brief reviews on the films currently showing at the Toronto Film Festival. Most every page in there has the trailer imbedded (also, how do I embed youtube clips on here?) Having read nothing about it, the trailer for 'The Raid' looks pretty crazy.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) When I re-actived NFL RedZone, I also got some other freebies. Included in this was Starz. I just watched a movie on demand called "What Doesn't Kill You", starring Ethan Hawke and Mark Ruffalo. I'd never heard of it, and was quite surprised with how good it was. There were some plot holes, but overall an enjoyable South Boston con-man story. Huh, I just moved to Boston a couple days ago and I've been on a Boston-movie kick. Looks like I'll be checking this one out sometime soon.

QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 06:21 AM) My next section is on grammar and I've heard so many people say they hated learning grammar in school. What sucked and what did you like? My students are surprised when I tell them I disliked "English" class when I was in middle school. Grammar was what I really disliked. Endless diagramming of sentences for no apparent reason. I've downloaded purchased all of the Grammar Rocks videos. Now I'm brainstorming some other lesson ideas. Bring a bamboo cane to class as a reminder to use their "your"s, "there"s, and "where"s correctly. Or else...

8/30 GT - SOX vs Twins - 7:10pm CDT - CSN
MiddleCoastBias replied to knightni's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I'm heading out to the game tonight, first game back to Chicago since the Halfway to St. Pat's game from last year. I'm on an 0-4 skid (including two in the Kansas City series, one of which was the WP in extras loss) hoping to break my slide. If I don't, I'm moving to Boston in a few days anyway so maybe I'll hit them with my curse. -
I know this is pretty much the opposite of what this thread is about but ..... I JUST QUIT MY JOB. Boom, so happy about it. I was accepted into grad school a short time ago (Northeastern Univ. in Boston). Sooo excited to get out of Missouri and up to Boston. This makes the 10th time I've moved in the last 2 years (political campaigns) but this one should be a long-term move. I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity. Plus the campus is like 5 blocks from Fenway so I can enjoy some baseball while I'm at it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) I agree with you. I watched it in college and thought it was pretty bad actually. I saw it for a film study class in college for the first time and I had the same reaction. I went back a few months later and watched it and I was definitely impressed. Having said that, I'm not excited that it's getting remade; let it be.
