  1. My biggest pet peeve is when someone wears a jersey of a team that isn't even playing on the field. Worse yet is when they are wearing a jersey of a team from a different sport entirely. Dude, I don't care that you're a Raptors fan- we're at a Sox game.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply. Yep, I know we've seen the Phillies have have been looking for a RH power-hitter in the outfield for the better part of the season now.

    Soxtalk Ads

Yeah, not going to lie- I just went and got Quiznos for the first time in 8 months because I saw an ad here (and I'm not one to cave to advertisements).
  5. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) I would love a sandwich pick next year for Jackson. Just hope Kenny does not screw it up. This is the risk going forward. We need to weigh if we can get a better player out of a trade than we can in the draft (obviously). The concern comes in with how much faith you put into our ability to draft the 'right' guy next year. It comes down to risk/reward- we might be able to get a low/medium-risk prospect or two for Jackson in a trade, or we risk another high pick that could end up being a bust. Very tough decision to make going forward, and I know I can't definitively say which is best.
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Chris Rongey disagrees with you. As a matter of fact, he probably thinks you're an idiot for thinking that way. As much as I like Ozzie, I, like most of the people here, agree with you. Sometimes you just need a fresh approach or a fresh voice. Ozzie seems tired and his players are probably just as tired of him too. Speaking of whom, has anyone else noticed the Ranger hasn't posted here since maybe mid-April...?

    Soxtalk Ads

And as long as there are no auto-play ads, no qualms here.
  8. The Jurassic Carl? I feel like I just saw that a couple weeks ago.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I was blown away by the overall talent level in this game. It really was well played. Saw nothing to dislike with Viciedo, as he took his same ferocious swings and definitely has a nice presence at the plate. He fought off a couple good pitches in his first AB that I liked before he went down on a poor swing outside. I don't know where else to post this- does anyone know if we have a player named to the AAA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City on the 13th? I imagine I would have seen a write-up or tweet about it by now if we did but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen something.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Where is that from? Seriously. I want to know more about this.
  11. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Gavin has been really good against the Tigers in his career. It doesn't make any sense to have him face Verlander though, no matter how well he pitches we'll lose. This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) Then you will get in a lot of trouble in society. Beckham's lucky he didn't get fined/suspended. Can't do this stuff, just can't. Thank you for your sound mind.
  13. Talking to Karko's Throatskin, he has the Twins' broadcast and said their announcers just went back to replay the Rios play and had this to say - "thats terrible. I mean..just terrible. I have to show this again, I don't want any young kids playing like this. I don't like bring things like this up. But the little kids are out there...kids, please don't play like Alex Rios. Learn fundamentals. Hit the cutoff man. Make the right play." Made my day.
  14. Does it seem to anyone else that Dunn has backed off the plate a bit? Could be that he's realizing pitchers are working in on him and he's trying to adjust.
  15. Very well done. I'm loving Peavy's pace today, looks to be in control.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) There are plenty of way worse signings, no matter what Dunn does. Manny Ramirez for the Dodgers and Rays comes to mind.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) I was at that game also.. I was at the cubs/Cards game in St. Louis with my girlfriend that day. She took multiple photos of the out-of-town scoreboard, one of which has me with a look of disgust staring at that score.
  18. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 12:42 AM) They have a decent farm. Not great, but pretty good. For a team that's had such favourable drafting positions in recent years they could be much better, but they're OK. I'm still not sold on them this season, however. In all honesty, the Twins are still the team that scares me the most. The Tigers are similar to us in that they rarely finish strong. The Twins, however.....I think we all know how they finish. Giggidy giggidy.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) Hawk Harrelson named GM and Joe Cowley named Manager Joe Cowley named team spokesman/director of marketing.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) My lord, really? Taco Bell is marginally suitable for human consumption. I can see not being a big fan of Chiptole, but to go out of your way to choose disgusting, grade C beef on purpose? Yikes. I'm clearly no 'foodie' but I'm totally ok with the processed 'meat' from Taco Bell. If they told me it was made out of cat, I would still eat it. If they killed the cat in front of me, I would still eat it.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Interesting not, according to Hittrackeronline, Dunn's homer was the heighest hit in the Majors this season reaching an apex of 150ft. Someone had posted a website a few weeks back (maybe in the MLB catch-all?) that had a list of the highest, lowest, slowest, longest air time, etc. Anyone still have the website, or does anyone know if this one had the longest time-in-air as well?
  22. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) I just thought it was an interesting angle. Oh well. I meant the comment on the youtube video was ridiculous. Definitely good to see the on-field video. In the pitch before the balk, you could see on the TV broadcast AJ booking it like he was going to steal home; possibly had an effect mentally.
  23. The lone comment is ridiculous. If it looks a dog and smells like a dog... The ump knew just as well as the players did when he saw it.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) Wow. There must be something behind the scenes we don't know about. This sounds like a similar situation that we tried last year - trade for Jackson with the hope to flip him for Dunn. The way I see this working out, they are shopping Jackson to teams for good prospects or immediate help, and then looking to move Q for Beachy or Lowe to replace Jackson. It sounds like we might be doing a similar thing as last year - get the replacement deal done before we get the first deal done.
