MLB Attendance problem? (KC, CLE, Cubs, NY teams)
MiddleCoastBias replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Instead of creating a new thread I figured I would bump this since it had a lot on KC. New article on Grandstand about the Royals' prospects, good read. Grantland.com A few quotes: -
So upset I missed the game last night (on the road for work). I hope this one plays out so we have a decisive game 3.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:32 AM) I'm pretty sure I've seen David Ortiz do it before. It actually kinda makes sense if you can get it down. David Ortiz has definitely done it a number of times, less of a bunt and more like "stick the bat out there in a half swing". I've wanted to see Thome and now Dunn do this for a while. And while Dunn is getting paid millions to hit home runs, it just isn't working for him now. It just makes sense to try ANYTHING to get on base at this point.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) I think it's gotten beyond angry determined boos for dunn and moved on to most people almost begging him to succeed. Hearing the crowd at the stadium on tv doesn't suggest that (but then again cubs fans cheer or boo but have no idea what is going on). What he hears is a resounding boo throughout the game; no matter how mentally strong you are (which it sounds that he is) that is going to weigh on you. Think about showing up to work or doing a personal activity you love and being told 'you suck' constantly. You can brush it off as much as you can but it sinks in eventually. And from a fan's perspective, the novelty of booing has to fade into what I'm inferring from Balta- it's getting so depressing that it is hard to even feign a boo.

F*** it III: Sox vs The National. First Pitch 7:10 CT
MiddleCoastBias replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Thank god we don't need Dunn to score from 2nd on a basehit anymore. Just trot home now... -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Wow, UVA escapes once again. South Carolina gets the first two on a strands them. Gotta think UVA makes them pay this inning now. Thank god someone else is watching this (I'm out of market for the Sox so I have them playing on the laptop). Bases loaded for UVA in the bottom of the 13th, no out. Strikeout, sharp liner to second and double up the runner to get out of the huge jam. Bah, I love baseball. Hat, fitting that UVA's closer (107 pitches) is replaced by our 36th round pick to pitch the 13th. Edit: two sac bunts, two errors by our pitcher. Walk off winner for the Gamecocks on an attempt to get the lead runner at 3rd on the bunt. Awesome game.

What a game. Incredible pitching by both teams. SC's closer has now thrown 81 pitchers.... as the closer. Got out of a 1-out bases loaded jam in the top of the 12th with a GIDP.

I bet Capn is the only watching this CWS semifinal besides me right now. This is an awesome game, love it. I'm cheering for the Gamecocks (got my hat before the CWS started last year, rocking it tonight). In extras right now, game has been full of some gutsy pitching, very exciting stuff.

QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Yankees Pinstripes, Boston's grays, Mets pinstripes, Our grays, Oakland's gold jersey, and Rangers red jersey. I do not like our grays at all, never have. Something about the script lettering irks me, and now the Twins have the same thing- gross. And I guess I like this year's even less: I still can't get used to the logo change on the left shoulder. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I just can't think of anything but Walgreens when I see the Nationals logo. Same. I would prefer their interlocking DC logo though I don't know if that has made it into their actual jerseys.

I've always been a fan of alternate black unis (even though UniWatch hates them). An example I particularly liked was the black alternate the Reds wore a few years ago (do they still wear them?) back when Girffey was playing there. And the white pins with black sleeves from the same era were pretty neat as well (better than we tried them). The Nationals' alternate red jerseys are pretty sharp, though I don't like the shape of the number '5' on the jerseys (for those that have a 5 in their number).

Sox Baseball on TV for the Out of Towners

We also have the Fox broadcast on Saturday, though that may be subject to a regional blackout. -
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) Dude, I wanna know who the moron is that's buying some of those scrubs jerseys for $140 Some of those are admittedly worthless jerseys, others are so funny that it's almost worth it (Jerry Owens and Ehren Wasserman come to mind). But yeah, I have a feeling that Kotsay jersey may have been posted by his own wife or mother...

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) What? You can buy the authentic replica for $100-$120 or the official on-field authentic for $225, hence the "+." Mark Kotsay jersey for $130, woot woot! Honestly, that Jayson Nix jersey is calling my name...

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 22, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) The main fake jersey guy in the Chicago area was arrested around Christmas. I heard it was close to $500k sold. I'm happy about this, because one of my better friends is a guy I used to work for who owned a sports store. I use the word OWNED because fake jerseys and their easy access to getting them was the death of his business. Also, the fake jerseys look so bad. If you can buy a fake jersey for $50, why not buy the real one for $100+? Honestly when I think about buying an authentic for $100+, I figure I might as well just go all the way authentic eBay Game Worn Sox jerseys
