Chicago @ Seattle Gamethread
MiddleCoastBias replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) well i'll give alexei credit, when i made my sig it was predicated that his horrendous metrics at 2b last year would carry over to the more difficult position, but he has improved on them to be at least in the neighborhood of an average defender. That said, having watched him at SS, I still think he's probably the worst defensive SS we've had in a while. I'd say he's probably even worse than Valentin who was a guy who made alot of errors but had ridiculous range and metrics. meanwhile, you are entitled to your opinion and me mine, but if i had to guess most soxtalkers would find it a stretch to say that my sig is a "joke" (at least the defensive part)...and i'm quite confident most would not classify alexei as "above average" Royce Clayton. Ballgame. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) Not really...it can certainly have an impact on ticket sales and marketing, and thus his contract can help pay for itself more. While ticket sales may weigh on the minds of the execs, as a fan I want to see the best team on the field that gives us the best chance of winning down the line. While Thome offers the LH power bat and OBP, I think Dye has more to offer over a longer period of time. It would be awesome to see Thome hit his 600th in a White Sox uniform but that isn't going to be the main draw for fans all season long; a consistent on-field product for multiple seasons to come will have a larger fan-drawing effect.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) If he continues to hit like he has been since the ASB then I'm fine with him sitting more often. That's not going to do anything for his confidence, and we need him full-strength as we make a playoff push. What we need to do is keep him in the lineup to reassure him that we have plans for him, too. Benching him more often may give him the impression that he is indeed on the way out, and that may impact his play even more.

This dude is great. He can't yell very loud if at all, and that seems like a pre-req to be a beer vendor. He makes up for with his dancing antics and makes his sales that way. More power to him.

Game Thread: 8/7 Sowers(3-7) @ Buehrle(11-5) 7:11CDT WCIU

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) Jeremy Golden Sowers is due to get rocked. I was at that Paulie game last month, and I'm going again tonight. I am 9-0 in the last two seasons, 3-0 against the Indians in that span. This is my last game for a while (moving to DC tomorrow, get to go see Nats games....) so we better win this one. On a related note, I have a Mike MacDougal jersey ($3.86 winning bid on eBay); I see the paltry Nats have him in their pen, possibly closing (if they ever have a close situation). A $5 ticket will get me into the stadium and I'm hoping to just walk over and sit behind the pen and get MacDougal's attention. -
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) Haha, I just started laughing so much at my desk at work I had to turn away from a coworker and pretend I was reading a piece of paper. Priceless. How come GTFO and STFU aren't on this list of acronyms? I enjoy CTFO for chill TFO, actually just use the acronym around my buddies.

I'm in, but last year was my first year (I actually hate the NFL, love college sports, I'm just in it for the competition). I finished in last place last year. That said, I should be the first one bumped/dropped if there is a need to trim the fat in order to have even leagues.

Well, I'm back boys. Last night at the bars in Chicagoland. Tomorrow I'mn going to the game and Saturday I'm on a plane, moving out to DC. Anyone else ready to get f***ed up and die?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) Good sci-fi thrillers are hard to come by. I didn't think that one was too bad. I just feel like it was very similar to Sphere which was a great movie and better book. Event Horizon was 'ehh', I'd rather watch Sphere -
I miss jhonnydanks' "Don't stop get it get". It needed to be said.

Ace, I have much to learn yet

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:51 AM) You must not be reading too well then. He's not even close. With respect to quality, I meant in terms of epicness. If most of Soxtalk knows him for his ridic posts, he must be doing SOMETHING right. It may not be a quality day posting but it's worth a read and a laugh when i'm drunk. And I'm for it.

Oh god, I just drank what I thought was my beer next to my compputer. Turns out, it was yesterday's...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) I'm chopping all of my action... and mostly power. Streve, while I have minimal time posting, I have been reading Soxtalk for 2 years, and I have learned that you are an expert drunk poster. Having said that, I have no idea what that means, but I would love to learn your ways

Why is this not a pinned thread? I feel like I need to do too much work ot find it, and that is the last thing i want to do when I'm drunk. It's like teasing a midget when all they really need is a booster seat. WHERE IS MY BOOSTER SEAT?

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) I used to feel that way, then I bought a cat. Good play. But in response to others, I am envious of their prowess to manipulate photos into the awesomeness I see in some sigs. I feel like I need to outsource my ideas and ask someone to make a real sig for me...

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) Five of six against the leaders of the other two divisions. That's hawt. 5 of 6 against not only divisions leaders, but the two best teams in the AL (and we all know the AL win the WS, like always). Throw Tampa in there and we've had quite the string of impressive victories. It's just that dastardly Central that we have to defeat...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) It's hilarious how unused this thread is when it's not during the school-year. College is awesome. As for myself, I'll be hammered in the Caribbean all next week while on a cruise, then back to my apartment at school in 2 weeks. Welcome Week will be a s*** show. Currently a recent grad/unemployed waste of life so I while I'll be missing all of the college kids posting here in the next few weeks, I will be adding posts of my own while sitting in my own waste and squalor. Here's to the economy, at least booze is cheap!

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:15 PM) Post of the Week. Out of respect to your posting prowess, I will post this award amongst the many I have achieved. Total awards: 1. But in all seriousness, series wins against the AL's best are a strong barometer of how we will do in the playoffs if we do manage to hold off the rest of the Central. We have a pretty strong schedule coming up; Detroit has a killer schedule starting August 18th, but so we do. Minni has a weak schedule in Sept. so we need them to drop back now so we can gain some distance on them if they make a late season push. Hopefully we can outlast Detroit in the 2nd half of August and put up some distance. To make it easier: Tigers' schedule for this month: home series of Bal, Min, KC, Sea, and TB. Road series of Boston, Oak, and LAA and they string seattle, oakland, angels, and tampa all in a row starting the 18th through the 31st In September, the Twins have: Home: Sox, Oak, Cle, Det Road: Cle, Tor, Sox, KC, Det But they have 6 against KC, 3 with Bal, 4 with Cle, and 6 with Texas remaining in August

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Last Friday and Saturday I was too drunk to post in here cause of my buddy turning 21. This Friday.. my friend is leaving for the Army, I'll be at a party with mad liquor, and there will be strippers.. I probably will not be here again.. but I promise you next Saturday after my friend's wedding and after party.. with 4 kegs, mad liquor, etc.. I'll post here. The "going away parties" are always a good recipe for disaster. I'm moving out to DC in two days and I have a sinking feeling that I'll be spending a good deal of time here with no friends in Washington. Here's to solo drinking (and shame)!

You know what, I don't want to sound like an attention whore but I never got a "welcome to..." response on my first posts. I was looking forward to it after the long wait to finally break the seal of posting a response and then I got no love. Sincerely, Drunk and Jealous
