Interestingly, Minn. Star Tribune still favors us
MiddleCoastBias replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) If they get knocked out of the race, I'd love to seem them move Beckham to SS and try Ramirez in CF for the remainder of the season, playing Fields at 3B... I don't want to watch the paltry baseball that would be required leading up to this if we are in such a bad position in the standings that we make these moves. That would require a total collapse of all fundamentals. -

Fox question of the day was which team has gone the longest since their last no-hitter. My guess is either the Pirates or the Reds. Anyone else venture a guess? -
Wise actually had a pretty good game at the plate today. Legging out a double, two good at-bats going deep in the count. His last two at-bats Verlander really reared dug deep for some extra gas and Wise kept up with him. In that last AB he fouled off a 99 mph pitch, followed by 100 mph, and then stuck with the 81 mph breaker on the next pitch. Sure he ground out both times but still good ABs for him and his confidence.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) You guys have it all wrong. Wise should buy MB something. Without MB's performance today, no one outside Chicago would even know Wise existed. Yeah, even after all the exposure and attention yesterday, the "1st Sox Fan" Obama STILL mispronounced Wise's name in his press conference, calling him "Wice".

Season tickets for the Sox so he can at least see the games after he gets sent down.

MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY
MiddleCoastBias replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Buster Olney just dropped the stat that Mark was on the mound for a total of only 32 minutes in the game today. That is an impressive pace, even for the quickest worker in the game. -
I was talking with Karko's Throatskin earlier and we found it ironic that Buehrle had a no-hitter going against Joe Maddon after Joe's joke phone call to Mark before the All-Star game saying that he wasn't invited anymore following a poor start. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all to Mark... Way to go Burls!
-
QUOTE (Karko's Throat Skin @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Seriously...Anderson would have caught that without falling ... but he didn't... because he's in AAA. In the post game Ozzie said "We keep him for a reason". Right there.

MARK BUEHRLE PITCHES THE 18TH PERFECT GAME IN HISTORY
MiddleCoastBias replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Mark Buehrle's press conference: He said AJ told him (yesterday) to throw a perfect game. He's now fielding a call from President Obama, conference interrupted. -
I myself wouldn't participate in booing and I wouldn't encourage others. But, like others, I do understand where they are coming from. My justification for this is that Sox fans are all a 'family'. You can talk about your own family all you want because you still support them, no matter what happens. We can call out a player for not performing and criticize them, but at the end of the day we still love them (exception for D Wise). But if someone else talks trash about your family (i.e. a Cubs fan says Bobby sucks) you WILL defend them.

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Spoken like a true stalker. I do what I can. One of my buddies has Rashaam Salaam as his donor witness on his ID. Tell me that isn't a conversation starter (and subsequent ender)...
-
QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Just act like I'm coming in for a cut, pull out a baseball and act like I carry one with me at all times, then abruptly sprint out of the place. You don't even need a ball... just walk in and ask him to sign your driver's license as the donor witness on the back. Easy thing to do and it always makes for a good story when you take your ID out.

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Was there something else he needed to do defensively to distinguish himself from a guy who makes blooper reel plays in CF? "Blooper reel"? Wise has a career .991 fielding% with only 3 errors with 322 PO, And in CF it's .993%. Brian is also a career .991% with 5 E to 540 PO. I'm not saying Wise is a great fielder or that he even deserves to be in the majors at all, but you make him sound like a bumbling fool.

A few games ago on CSN when Getz was batting they showed a graphic of RBI leaders among rookies, Getz was 2 and Beckham was 3 (I believe), Nix was 2nd for home runs. I was wondering if anyone knows how our rookies stack up amongst all league rookies in all major statistics, mostly in the effort to see how competitive Bacon is getting in the ROY running. Maybe this is something to keep track of in a Diamond Club thread, "ROY Tracker"...?

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) I didn't claim that everyone behaved that way only that some people did. Do the arguments I cited sound as though they were made by members of "the BA fanboy club" to you? Jeremy, I totally agree with you. In the grand scheme of things, BA has incited the most interest and arguments out of any player or play than I can remember. And all of this 'excitement' is over a backup OFer. He's a career .225/.288 guy... the amount of excitement he garners is ridiculous. I understand people debate CF because that is the only real position we have with multiple players with 'debatable' statistics, but at the end of the day, all of the options out there suck. BA incites mass discussion when his numbers are undeserving. Yes, he's better than Wise, we all get that. But neither of them are very good, they just 'happen' to be our best options. Time to get over it and bring in someone else.

This game is still being played here, folks. Thinking (hoping) positively, at least Bobby is in position to get a win! Interpret that in green if you wish. -

Mercy! Bobby really knows how to jerk us around... Now all we need is for him to strike out the side... Here's hoping. -
Exactly what I'm saying, in regards to Poreda. A lot of people were clamoring for to be called up, despite some reservations about his readiness. Now that he's up, we want to send him back now for Torres? Torres may not be ready either; I feel people just want to make a move for making-a-move's sake. Either we shouldn't have brought Poreda up in the first place or we should give him more time. Well, he's already up so why should we change after 2.5 weeks and think Torres is the answer? If Torres is indeed ready (again, questionable but perhaps worth a chance), it should be Richard down and Poreda getting more work, if anything.
-
Wait, hold up. I think a lot of people are moving too fast here. After 3 starts everyone was saying they wouldn't trade Richard, "he's the next thing". Poreda was always "untouchable", but now that he's up (and not being used) we need to send him down and get Torres? Now, I like Torres and think he might have a chance in the future, but it takes more than 10 appearances with a 2.45 ERA for Poreda and 12 starts for Richard. Sometimes you just need to give a player time to adjust before you send them down (see: Brian Anderson...). Torres will get his time, just like how Getz had to wait for awhile. But give Poreda a chance before they send him down so soon.

While I am a new poster, I have been reading Soxtalk for close to 2 years... It is interesting how over time you can delineate two separate factions, those for BA and those against. I was a Jerry Owens fan back in the day, wanting to see him succeed, and I never thought BA would rise to the hype. JO didn't make it, and BA is still here. While I don't believe he'll ever live up to (half of) the expectations, I do think he is a serviceable 4th OFer, or poor starter on a needy team. I hope for his sake that we trade him so he gets a chance to sink on his own without people saying he hasn't been given a proper chance. I realize I have sealed my fate with many BA fans, but understand this should've been posted in the drunk chat section. Thank you for your time.

Here's to AJ and his arm tonight. 2 runners mowed down, huge night. After the first half of the season where he was something like 2-45 (stat-heads, please correct me) gunning two runners, especially in the 8th, was instrumental in the win tonight.

I believe Q is a true competitor that wants to play as hard as he can when he's on the field, and if we tell him he's moving to DH if he gets injured he'll probably hide his injury in an effort to keep competing. This would probably hurt him more in the long run, defeating the purpose of moving him to DH in the first place. No, he should stay in left, move JD to DH. With the discussion regarding CF, if we don't plan on having Pods around for a more than next year I think we should go after someone young and versatile position-wise like Colby Rasmus. This way when D2 comes up and JD leaves we have options for young, talented OFers in that are capable of playing CF and the corners.
