  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) I do think it's gross. But I can accept if others choose that way. I could never accept my kin choosing that way. I'd feel responsible. Like I did something wrong. And like I said earlier, it would hurt me to know that I would never see a grandchild or that the family name dies (assuming I only had one kid) when he died. There are such things as adoption and even surrogate mothers if you want the actual bloodline to continue. The kid can have whatever name the parents want to give him/her.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) Hey, you gotta take the good with the bad when you make that choice. And I'll never believe for a second that people are born gay. GMAB. Mankind would end if everybody were gay. I believe it's a combination of environment, influences, lack of a strong male figure, boredom, curiosity (this is almost always the case with women), etc. This actually makes your posts make a ton more sense now. I don't agree that it's a choice though.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) That's not my problem. I didn't say anything outlandish or vulgar. I didn't discount it. But I can tell you're getting a little worked up. Nobody said a public display. But s***, if it's midnight and they're in the room doin' their thing and I'm in the other room and I heard moaning and s*** going on, yeah, that would bother me. FWIW, there are tons of hetero (both male and female) that I don't want to think about having sex in the next room either.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) People should have the right to offend as many people as they like, but they have to take the criticism that follows. If by now you don't know that a sizable group of people find using gay for stupid offensive, then you live under a rock or something. Be offensive, but don't whine when people call you out on it.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) I think he means normal in this case in the typical view of society at large via majority acceptance. My point is this -- if I can even put this into words effectively -- it's not only him that thinks a "normal kid" isn't gay/lesbian, because this is a social norm by majority as accepted by society at large. In this regard, people tend to relate societal "norms" as what the majority happen to be, and in this case, that's straight. Which would make non-straights fall in the non-normal category, BUT, that's not to say they're not normal people as individuals, but in relation to society they aren't. ^^ I hope that comes off as I intended it and can be understood. I don't think the bulk of society is anti-gay or anti-lesbian because they regard straight as the norm, and gay/lesbian as something else...it is what it is. People define "normal" based on their surroundings and what they are used to. Go to some country where they eat dogs and the people there think it's perfectly normal. Yet in this country I'd assume most people would think it's really weird.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) I'm not so sure it is... I used to think it is when I was in middle school, but I didn't know any better. Maybe some people choose to be gay (don't really know why they would if they didn't like men), but I'm absolutely positive that the majority of gay men are gay because they like other men. I'm pretty sure it's something you're born with. You're either gay or you're not. Sometimes you can tell pretty early. One of the neighborhood kids my wife grew up with always wanted to play with my wife's barbies. When they would play "house", he always wanted to be the mom. He finally came out in HS to the surprise of no one.
  7. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) I wouldn't want a lesbian daughter either. And who are you to tell me how to feel? I'm not gonna judge you for being an atheist (or SoxBadger, if you're not atheist), but you're going to judge me for how I choose to raise my kids? That's pretty arrogant. Whatever dude, you're not going to guilt trip me for wanting a normal kid. This says more about you than any other post you've made here.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) WOW! I was in Iowa last night (for my job interview this morning). I slept in the basement, so I slept through most of it. I had no idea how nasty it had gotten until I woke up and my mother-in-law said at 4am she almost came to the basement. If my wife hadn't called me and told me what happened I wouldn't have had any idea a storm came through. It was bright and sunny when I walked into work at 7:50 AM and it was bright and sunny when I left at 5:00 PM. When I drove home last night I saw trees and power lines down everywhere and even a couple of large billboards were knocked over. All the larger grocery stores in Rockford were without power. I ran to Wal-Mart later last night and they were throwing out ALL of their frozen goods.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Still trying to decide which one I liked more, Bad Teacher or Horrible Bosses. I guess I'd have to go with Horrible Bosses simply because the ensemble of talent (Foxx, Spacey, Farrell, Aniston, Sutherland) in that movie. Maybe it's because Justin Timberlake's character was so over the top annoying...and Lucy Punch (the teacher across the hallway) was great for awhile...but her act grew thin too as the movie went on. Finally, there's just no way that any teacher (even in the worst public school in America) could have gotten away with all those things. When I started teaching 2002, you had to get permission from 2-3 different people in the building (instructional coach/at least one Vice Principal) just to show a movie ONCE, in a single period, and you had to write an extensive lesson plan linking it to your curriculum/textbook. When I was a senior we watched "War Games" for our final in one class. I think it was called "Advanced Computer Concepts" or something like that. Everybody got an A on their final.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideTeacher @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 02:44 AM) Is it wrong that I'm not so much bothered by WHAT he wrote in the dirt as I am that he found the time (and in-game 'focus') to dig around in the dirt like a silly 8-year-old? I'm all for the shaving cream interview pies and practical jokes when the players are earning their paychecks, but I'm simply OVER these (slumping--or just not giving a crap anymore?) guys goofing all all the g**damned time. PS: I'm usually a very nice girl, really. For years I've been criticized for having 'too much hope' and drinking the kool-aid. By now though, this team's broken my heart so many times I feel like I'm becoming a cynical b**** as a result. I'll try to keep the posts more positive in nature from now on. FWIW, they are playing a boys game. If you can't have a little fun while playing it, you are in the wrong profession. It probably took him 10-15 seconds to do it between innings while the pitcher was warming up.
  11. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) So what is the rule going to be, child missing 10 hours, child missing 24 houirs? What constitutes missing? If I tell my parents Im going over to Joe's house and Ill be staying there, when do they have to report me missing? I believe the rule right now is that you cant file a missing persons report until atleast 24 hours have passed. It just seems to be an overreaction. I personally think the last thing we need is more laws, we just need smarter govt. If nothing else it should fall under child neglect. I really haven't followed this case at all but did she ever have an explanation of why she didn't report the kid missing for a month?
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) Even worse than losing 1 game to them? The defeatist attitude coming from the team general. He's basically conceding that a team behind them in the standings is better. And this after the 1st game of an important 4 game series. There are many things you can criticize ozzie for but one thing he is not and that is a loser, or a guy who takes losing well. I'm pretty stunned by his remarks and attitude. I was really expecting to hear the opposite, even if the words ring empty I expect him to be ready to kill someone. I don't get it. I've never seen one team get in the heads of the opposing players as much as the Twins have the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Intentionally hanging a jury because you think there might be more evidence for a later trial? Well obviously you don't come out and say it right out loud. But a number of them are convinced that she's not innocent.
  14. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:57 AM) So the angels called up Trout today. Interesting to note that the Sox were deciding between Trout and Mitchell in 2009. Hard to fault them too much since Mitchell had a freak injury that may have cost him his shot at the bigs. However, had they chose Trout, where do you think he would be right now in our system? Toiling away in the minors because Ozzie can't find a place to play him.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) I wasn't really going for the abstinence angle when I said too many people who aren't ready to be parents are having kids....although abstinence is one option. We just have too many young women (girls) having kids because they want somebody to love THEM unconditionally. Even if it means they can't care for them emotionally and/or financially. I don't know how many girls actually get pregnant because of that or because they are/were just stupid. My wife and I can pinpoint almost to the day when we conceived our first child. It was right around our anniversary and we decided to try with no protection. Even though we had gone nearly 2 years without her getting pregnant. It only takes one time...
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) You mean risk going to jail themselves? You can go to jail because of an opinion?
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) fwiw it sounds like the jury was actually pretty sophisticated: http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/07/06/florid....html?hpt=hp_t2 I can't believe they at least didn't try to get a mis-trial with a hung jury that could've allowed the prosecution to go back and strengthen their case before they re-tried her.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) At all? Or enough? I thought the percentage of teens having sex dropped a good amount during the early 00's? I've always thought that it started going down when they quit trying to teach abstinence and instead starting handing out condoms and telling kids "We know you are going to try it, but at least be smart about it."
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) You mentioned two situations where the outcome wasnt a surprise. An avg good looking woman like her sadistically killing her daughter and then partying for a month before reporting her missing is not an everyday occurrence. Thats why it got a ton of press. Actually I think it's the other way around. We can thank Nancy Grace.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) I'd hope so, since a full day of Jury Duty pays you like, what, 17$? I got $10 when I went. It just about covered my lunch and parking expenses. I also missed an entire day's worth of pay at work. I had to make up a lie that I was biased against police officers so they wouldn't pick me. I wish now that I would have just told them that I really didn't want to be there and my only goal was to get out as soon as possible. That if it meant agreeing with the other 11 jurors even though I didn't believe it I would. Which would've been completely unfair to everyone involved. It was easier to just lie...
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Another solid thought on this... Bernie Tafoya I find it ironic there are so many arm-chair TV-watching jurors who try to avoid jury duty, yet are upset by the Casey Anthony decision. If I got paid the same amount for sitting in a jury box as I do for going to work, I'd do it.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) They apparently clinched it today. I think the last team to lead the series gets the cup, and the since the Cubs can only tie the series, the Sox locked it up, I believe. This is true. They only had the "last team to win" rule last year because it was the first year.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) I consider Blazing Saddles to be the best comedy ever. I've seen parts of that movie but never sat down and watched it all the way through. Same with History of the World Part 1.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) All of the Mel Brooks movies are great. Men in Tights is another good one. Although I have never seen any of the actual Robin Hood movies besides the Disney cartoon.
  25. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) ALL of those dumbass spoof movies. I've actually lowered my opinion of people I know who have admitted to watching and/or liking these. Spaceballs is one of my favorite movies of all time. A few of the 'Scary Movie' movies are pretty funny too.
