I don't get this sentence at all. Two ROY awards? I didn't think that was possible.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2011 -> 03:57 PM) Sounds like the same exact scenario as Frank's return. Frank hit one out in his second AB too. But at least the Sox won that game. First time and last time I've ever seen a "walk-off" suicide squeeze.
-
Anyway when they honored Crede all they really did was play a montage before the game even started. He was on the field stretching when they did it. Then in his first AB he got a standing O. Then he hit a homerun.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 20, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Yes, and as I said, that is the reason it is so awkward. It was cool to do it for Peavy and Frank because they returned the following season to Comiskey. With these guys, it has been years. It's like, just let it go. The s*** was six years ago. I'm sure they would've done it sooner if they could've but that's MLB's unbalanced schedule for ya.

I've had to make 2 best man speeches in my entire life. One was at my best friend's wedding who I have known since 2nd grade. It wasn't too bad. The other one was for my wife's (then GF) sister and her husband. At the time we had only been dating for about 2.5 years. So I didn't really "know" him all that well. I mumbled a few words, wished them luck and happiness and that was about it.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 20, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) But this point has been made. For Crede, it was the very next season that he returned. With these guys, it has been years and they both spent more time with the team after 2005. Again, it's not like these guys are throwing a s***-fit because of this. They are just pointing out that it's kind of stupid, which I believe most people could agree it sort of is. It's coming off as a lame attempt to get people to come out and to remind them of 2005. Like I said, I have no problem with this (and I don't think Tex or J4L do either). Crede was still with the Sox in 06, 07 and 08. He just happened to go to a division rival that they play every year. They honored him when he made his first start as an opposing player. This is the first time Garland will make a start at US Cellular field as an opposing player. Same with Uribe.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 20, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) Garland spent a long time in Chicago and was a quality pitcher with the White Sox and helped us gain a World Series trophy. Uribe made two of the best plays in the 9th inning of the final game of the world series, including making the final out. They deserve to be recognized. I'd imagine Garland was in Chicago before (with the angels) but this might be Uribe's first time back. Garland has exactly 1 start against the White Sox and it was in Anaheim in 2008.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) If we were the types of mods/admins you seem to think we are... or if this were a site that was actually restrictive like WSI (nothing against that, its just their preferred style)... then you wouldn't even be able to read these responses to your posts, would you? Carry on. If it were WSI this thread would have been locked after the first post.

The problem with the light switch sounds like something that would happen at my house. We are pretty sure that whoever wired the electrical in our house was either drunk or a moron. Possibly both. We have at least three switches in our house that turn the power on and off to an outlet. So if you have something plugged into that outlet (like a TV) and hit the switch, it gets turned off. One of these is the single outlet in our bathroom. So it's impossible for us to have a nightlight in there. When they remolded our kitchen last year they found that some of the wiring in the kitchen was connected with the lights in the basement. They re-wired the kitchen to pass code and now half the lights in the basement don't work.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) Nice hackers reference, I dont think anyone else but me and you have seen that movie. It got me into an early form of hacking on AOL back in the day. I went to see it with the rest of my fellow computer nerds when I was in high school.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) Something's worth is what someone is willing to pay for it I learned that lesson a long time ago and it applies to pretty much everything. I can claim that my house is worth $1 million but there's no way anyone would pay that much for it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Anyone know what is on fire on the west side of Chicago? You can see black smoke rising up just south of the Ike a few miles outside of downtown. It past Rush Hospital to the west and little more south. Car on fire on Roosevelt east of Cicero. EDIT: Now it says a truck is on fire. Going off of mapquest traffic report.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 17, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) Im looking to buy a grill for my apartment on campus next year, problem is my apartment doesn't have a balcony. We are in a building with a large common area in the middle where I don't think they really allow grilling but everyone does anyways. That said, I think a small/portable propane grill may be the smarter way to go, like the weber q100, but not sure on costs of propane compared to charcoal (for usage). I was originally thinking of getting one of those small Weber Smokey Joes. I will be grilling quite a bit, especially when its warm out. I have always used charcoal and actually have never used propane, so any suggestions or ideas are welcome. Remember, this is a college budget . I think it's cheaper to use charcoal vs. propane. FWIW, I've got a Smokey Joe that we use when we go camping and it works just as good as the larger version. Just make sure you get the actual Smokey Joe and not one of the cheap imitation ones. They usually don't have the adjustable vents on them which makes temperature control nearly impossible.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Say I lose a receipt, no problem, they can credit it back to my CC and verify my purchase using that. I actually really like that stores can do this. Target does and I think Menards might as well. I'm horrible at keeping track of receipts when I need to return something.

I keep thinking about Roger Clemens in 2005. He got an average of 3.43 runs in run support/game that year yet finished with an ERA of 1.87 and only had a 13-8 record. Dank so far as gotten an average of 2.59 runs of support/game. -
QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 12, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) They don't seem to realize that they lose a lot of good talent by waiting so long sometimes. For my first job I had to wait about a month to hear back from them. I later found out that I was the first of 8 interviews they had lined up.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) That's one of the best reasons to use one, that's truly an emergency. Did they keep raising your interest rate? No, just our credit limit so we could charge more. I think the rate on it now is like 22%, which is why we pay the balance every month now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) The important thing is to now cancel the cards so that you don't have too high of a revolving credit line. This was about 6 years ago. We've kept our credit good and have a score near 800 now.
-
Our credit cards probably saved us from bankruptcy a few years back when my wife was unemployed for 9 months. We were literally living off of them. We racked up a huge amount of debt which we are currently paying off. Ironically we got a personal loan from Discover to do it.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) I believe the $50 policy is pretty much industry standard. It used to be $20. They raised it in the last couple of years.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 11, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) How much are tickets for the Sox game? Like walk up tickets.. because you make it sound like $5 is some huge deal when you can get a ticket to the Astros game for $7, and that's with no deals.. The cheapest Sox tickets you can get are upper deck reserved for $12 on a Monday. -
QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ May 11, 2011 -> 06:41 AM) I would try and call the company and explain the situation. I did this around Christmas this past year (just slipped my mind that the bill was due). I noticed it about 3 days afterwards and called the company and explained that I forgot, I was a customer in good standing who had always made my payments on-time, blah, blah, blah.....and they told me too bad. I proceeded to tell them I was going to have to cancel my card because this is not how you should treat good loyal customers. They transferred me to the cancellation department, where they asked me why I wanted to cancel the card. I told them the story, and they looked at my payment history, saw that I was never late, and proceeded to reverse all the late charges and interest. I had a similar situation a few month ago with my Discover card. Only difference is that I got it resolved with the first person I talked to. I've had my Discover since I was 18 and have never had a single problem with them. They even helped me to get rid of my AOL account and credited my money back to me after AOL continued to charge me when I had called repeatedly to cancel the service. We just recently used our cash back bonus award to pay our bill. The only complaint I have is that you have at least $50 in cash back bonus awards before you can use them. I have run into a handful of places that don't accept Discover as well. Also a few years back we had an incredible amount of debt and every time we started to come close to the limit on the card, they raised the limit. It was good that we didn't get charged fees for going over, but it was bad because we kept charging more. These days we pay the balance off every month.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Hard to blame the 0-5 record on his pitching............... It just makes the point of why it's dumb to judge a pitcher based on wins.
