  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) If your children are young and you wish to stop some predators from contacting them, then this may be more up your alley. Mike Sullivan of the Naperville Police who is a spokesman for safe kids computing and anti online predators wrote a lot of the dictionary and did a demo of this a few years back at an FBI lead event. It looked promising, I have not tested it but it looks like what you are looking for. One recommendation that I will have is you can add custom keywords. Put your credit card numbers, phone numbers and your address in the keywords that block or alert. This is what predators use to help guide their victims to giving up their location. Also if these are teens, you dont want them using your credit cards anyways. Hopefully this works. If you have other monitoring requirements let me know. Cyber Sentinel and from the same company. CSWEB It's not so much restricting access to certain websites or even the internet. I'm finding software that will do that all over the place. It's restricting access to the computer itself. Like I said we have it password-protected now so they can't even log onto windows without our permission. I'd like to find something that would allow them to log on during set time periods and then give them a warning message that they will automatically be logged off in 10 minutes (or whatever). QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) It's summer... tell them to go outside and have a fun summer... no need for the internet! It's sad but I think they are actually safer staying inside. Our neighborhood is dotted with sex offenders even though we live 4 blocks from an elementary school.
  2. So now that kids are out of school my 2 oldest will be home all day for the next three months. Normally we have our computer password protected so that they can't even log onto it without our permission. The Mrs. and I have talked about possibly letting them on for a few hours a day over the summer so they aren't totally "bored". My question is: What kind of software is available that will allow the computer to be available for a certain # of hours a day? Like between certain hours and then it will automatically lock down again at a specific time? I've googled it and found a bunch of software but I don't know what's good, reliable, safe, etc... I notice a lot of the software is stuff that records what is going on the computer and can even take screen shots. Thats good and all but what I really want is to limit accessibility to specific time periods that I can set.
  3. Check out snopes.com and it has a story about a 3rd pig (besides this one and hogzilla) that was killed with a pistol. That one weighed in at over 1100 lbs. They have a story about hogzilla and this one as well. Something interesting that I saw within the story: So obviously it's not uncommon to find a hog this size.
  4. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 22, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) I bet he got it from a recent poll of Sox fans themselves. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58716 According to that poll 67% of the people that voted believe that a team other than the Cubs are the Sox biggest rival. That's not even the real question here. Put up a poll that says "which would you rather do, go 6-0 against the Cubs during the regular season or win the World series?" and see how the voting goes...
  5. I'm always amazed by this. What's the point? This guy is actually going to try and say he didn't do anything wrong?
  6. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 17, 2007 -> 05:57 AM) Every time a kid at school says "That's gay" to something, I usually respond with "Yeah, [that locker, homework assignment, textbook reading, discussion questions on the overhead etc.] completely reminds me of two guys making out." There was a time when "gay" was generally known to mean "happy".
  7. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ May 16, 2007 -> 05:23 PM) I live 38 miles each way from work. 2 years ago I live 52 miles each way from work. i would have moved closer to work, but just the small increase I got took me from a $120k house, to a $200k house. And a house similar to mine within 10 miles of my work costs over $400k. There was one 2 blocks away from my store that was a mirror-image of the $120k house I had, except for the $375k price tag. I would love to drive less, maybe use public transportation. But to get from Plainfield to Bloomingdale there is no easy way. So I have a 4 cyl car, car pool with Juddling once in a while, and try to combine the rest of my trips into multi-purpose outings. I'm in a similiar situation. The company I work for is located in a very small town surrounded by lots and lots of cornfields. There's 2 gas stations, 2 bars, a couple of banks and one small grocery store. It just woudn't make sense for me to move closer to my work considering everything else I need (wife's job, babysitter, shopping) is still in Rockford. I'm trying to figure out a way to convince my company to move closer to me...
  8. I'm immune to cold sores and chicken pox. I've never gotten either one.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 14, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) I'm pretty sure the Sox signed him to a minor league deal @ the start of the season, so they should be able to send him up and down without worrying about the waiver wires. I thought it had something to do with him being out of options.
  10. I thought I had read this somewhere but would Terrero have to pass through waivers to get sent down? That seems like a big factor in deciding which guy goes down. Sweeney can be brought up and sent down with no problem.
  11. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 3, 2007 -> 01:57 AM) I want to know when VH1 plans on releasing DVD sets of the entire I Love The 80's, I Love the 80's Strikes Back series. After that is available, if ever, my programming choices for the network will be limited to Best Week Ever and Hogan Knows Best. That's about all I watch on VH1 as well. Although I did watch a few of the surreal life shows too. It's almost like MTV's real world but with washed-up actors that, in their mind, are still popular.
  12. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 2, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) MEN USA 5 ft 9.4 in 20-74 USA 5 ft 10.9 in 20-39 non-Hispanic whites USA 5 ft 11.7 in 20-39 non-Hispanic blacks USA 5 ft 5.8 in 20-39 Mexican Americans I'm average. I think I'm just under 5'10". Which is quite amazing considering my parents are both around 5'5". I'm taller than pretty much everyone on my dad's side of the family.
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ May 2, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) My theory's holding water so far. Hardly anyone less than 5'9"/5'10". I remember reading once that the average height for a human has gone up over the years. It said that the average man today wouldn't fit in an average-sized suit of armor from the medevil times.
  14. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) I live in Harvard. You live in Rockford (or so it says over there to the left). I called every store in Rockford last night and got nothing. I think it is all in the timing. Now it's more of just the fun of the hunt. I don't look for them every time I'm out but I've checked a couple of times and have seen them sitting on the shelves. Did you check all the EB games? There's like 3 or 4 of them. 2 Targets, 3 Wal-Marts, Best Buy, Circuit City...
  15. I've seen them all over the place. The PS3 too. Maybe it just depends on where you live.
  16. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) From another forum: "The mentality I have seen most Law enforcement personnel display does not give me any confidence in their abilities. In addition, most law enforcement training is rather lacking. A firearms training facility in Nevada is running a 26 episode challenge between "trained" law enforcement personnel and "plain aficionados" that have gone through their training. The "plain aficionados" have won in the neighborhood of 80% of the competitions. Check out www.frontsight.com to learn about the facility." Would people be more comfortable if getting a concealed carry permit required training at a facility such as this? Here's another story: "Keep in mind another data-point. In Israel, everyone can carry a concealed weapon. Recently, when an Arab terrorist attempted to hijack a bus about 4-6 people wound up pointing guns at him. Off to jail he went. Later, he reportedly commented that he was never told by his 'trainers' that Israeli citizens are armed to the hilt." No Rambos. No cross-fire fatalities. Just a potentially lethal situation adverted by armed citizens who refused to just be victims. That brings up an interesting quetion. If we had the same laws here, would this guy have even attempted this stunt in the first place?
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) You can buy it on MLB.tv for a few bucks to keep. That's the legal way to do it. It's probably not a good idea to discuss the pirating of copyrighted material on a public message board.
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) I would guess it's less than 5% of the population. That's about 15 million people. That's a lot of families depending on the ability to own guns to eat. I just wanted to show you that there are more people than just police and military that should be allowed to own guns.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) I realize there is not much of a connection but if my ideal society were to exist the hunters who use guns would have to take on another hobby. I threw fishing out there but I guess you can still hunt with a bow and possibly some other weapons. I'm not a hunter so I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about. There are hunters out there that don't hunt for sport. They hunt to feed their family.
  20. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) I'd rather not link to his despicable site. He regularly protests at funerals for fallen soldiers, saying "they got what they deserved." Just look up "Fred Phelps." I saw a 7-part series on Youtube (which has since been removed, probably by somebody from his "church") called "The most hated family in America". It was about a journalist who spent a week with them to see what they did and how they lived their lives. Quite interesting but the people seemed pretty hypocritical to me. Their actions don't always seem to mesh with their beliefs. I was saddened at the way they basically brainwash their own kids. At one of the protests one of the kids was walking around with a sign. The reporter asked the kid if he knew what the words on the sign meant and he said "no".

  22. The key is to just remember that you can't have two frogs in a row facing the same direction. Unless they are on the ends. Once you know that, it's fairly easy.
  23. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Did we ever get an update on Burly? Xrays negative. Day to day
  24. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Well, the second he was hit everybody knew he was done. I guess he just started walking off the field as soon as he was hit, didn't even go for the ball. To me, that sounds like he knew it was broken right away. He did start going for the ball. Once he realized he wasn't going to make the play then he started walking off the field.
  25. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) that was complete crap! Ball was right there for a strike...then he has to come back 3-1 instead of 2-2...gone. It certainly looked more like a strike than the one that was at Iguchi's eyes and was called a strike.
