QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) Has there ever been a worse opening series for a club in the history of baseball? In 2005 Houston started 1 - 15 or 3-15 something like that. Look where they ended up.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) no this is the culmination of a selfish GM, a cheap owner and a god awful tactitian running hte tema. What are you saying? Contreras and Garland shouldn't have started the first two games?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) What the heck is a Starbury? I assume its some sort of shoe, but I don't know where you'd find good shoes for $16. Here's some info.

I saw it. It appears that it will be set in Liberty City (again) and will probably be a modern day time period. Not sure if the Russian dude who's narrating will be the main character or not.

About 4 different Sox sites, Gamefaqs and a Stephen King website. I've signed up at a couple other message boards but I rarely go to them anymore.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Sure sign the world is ending, or I'm getting really old, my Dad, who practically lives in western boots, is now wearing Crocs. How did this become a phenomenon? Is it just a southern thing with our weather? My wife and daughters got some last year. I've seen tons of people wearing them in the past year or 2. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 06:52 AM) Love it. So that talk about it losing suction simply because it's made out of plastic is garbage?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) You don't even have to go that far. Look at real estate in Gary IN. Rockford was voted "most affordable housing" a couple of years ago. I did a search and found 31 houses for $30,000 or less. The cheapest was a 3-bedroom with a garage and basement for $8000.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:15 AM) Also, I was watching a Cubs broadcast the other day on TV and one of their announcers mentioned that the dropped 3rd strike rule was changed by MLB (due to AJ's steal of 1st base). The rule is now that if you take a single step toward the dugout, you are immediatly called OUT, rather than having the touch the dugout steps, as the rule was previously written. Can anyone verify? They have until they leave the dirt circle around home plate. AJ still would've been safe. Here's a link.

How is Seattle at home a "Prime" series?
Iwritecode replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) how many losses has seattle averaged over the last three seasons? 85-90? I don't think they are looking at that when they designate prime/premier games as much as WHEN the game is being played. All weekend home games between June and September are prime or premier. The one I'm trying to understand is why the Tigers series July 23 - 26 is premier, yet the series against the Indians in August isn't. Because the Tigers are the defending AL champs? -

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 11:21 AM) guys, if mid-summer weekend matchup is the answer, then WHY AREN'T TAMPA BAY AND KANSAS CITY ALSO PRIME SERIES???? Because they are in May? Summer = June, July & August. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 13, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) I wasn't part of that convo, but based on using it daily for the past 2 weeks, that would be a false assesment. I think I was the one that started the Dyson thread. It was awhile back when I was looking for a new vacuum and I asked if they were worth the money. I don't remember who it was that said that they would eventually wear out because they were plastic and I should look for a metal one. I even asked a guy at a local vacuum store and he said they weren't worth the money either even though they sold them. I ended up getting one with a bag (after having horrible luck with 3 or 4 bagless in a row)and it's been pretty good so far. The only thing that's been wrong is that I broke the belt when I accidentally ran over my daughters backpack strap. So, what do you think of your Dyson now that you've had it for a little while?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) If you care this much about it why don't you or won't you get DirecTV istead of cable? I like cable better because it's less expensive and I can have 5 different TV's hooked up to cable and watch five different channels on each TV. Try that with a dish...

Now I agree that many kids are pampered these days I don't agree with another adult touching my kid. If there's a problem at school then send them to the office, don't let them have recess, make them right their name on the board 100 times, etc... If there's a bigger problem, call me and I'll take care of it. If a teacher has to resort to taping kids to their seat, she shouldn't be a teacher because she doesn't know how to properly control a class.

I played fast-pitch softball until I was 16. When I was around 14 or 15 a local news station had something called "Hey Andy, sub for me!" where the sports guy (named Andy) would come to a sporting event and act as a substitute player. Well he ended up doing this for the opposing team and I had to pitch to him. The guy stood over 6 feet tall but I still ended up walking him and he even manged to come around to score. We ended up winning the game though. Anway it was on the local news that night. That was about 1 minute of my 15 minutes of fame. I still have 14 more minutes to go...

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Wrigley is not as bad as most of us Sox fans make it out to be....the problem more lies within the team that plays there and that drunkard Ronnie Woo Woo. I'll take Wrigely any day over the House that Ruth built or Fenway. I hate the fact that unless you memorize player #'s or can actually see the name on the back of the jersey, you can never tell who is on the field. Their scoreboard is useless in that regard.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 09:42 AM) I thought rat was in the taco meat? Makes sense to me. No, it was KFC that breaded and deep fried a rat. They also changed to KFC because they don't use real chicken meat.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) Just to let everyone know, they completely re-worked and ruined the game of Life sometime in the mid 90's. The game now is "see who gets the highest salary." That's basically all there is to it now. That's really all it's ever been. The only thing that really evens it out is the ability to play the stock market and the fact that they give you money for each kid at the end. Still a fun game though. Off the top of my head, the games we have at our house are: a few of the Scene It games, Uno, Uno Attack, Scategories, Sorry, Sorry Revenge, Monopoly, Life and a really old game called The Winning Ticket. This game is great fun when you have 4 people. Tripoley is good for 6-8 people.

I'm almost afraid to know how you managed to find that site...

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) My thoughts: It's not that hard to clean with a normal vacuum every once in a while. We are extremely lazy. I bet if somebody were to invent a full-size vacuum with a remote control they'd make millions. Give it technology so you can control it from anywhere in the world using your computer it'd be even better...

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) Oldman is a bit of a chameleon. He changes his looks for every role. You've never seen Batman Begins? He's Cheif (not yet Chief) Gordon. He also was Dracula in Coppola's Dracula. Bonham Carter you might know as the female lead in Fight Club. She's also Mrs. Tim Burton now. Rickman was the main terrorist in Die Hard. I don't really remember Die Hard and I've never seen the other movies. I could fill a book of popular movies I've never seen.

QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) That's funny! You should search their names on IMDb. I'm almost positive that you have at least seen Gary Oldman, Maggie Smith, and Helena Bonham Carter in a film. Probably Alan Rickman aswell, unless you don't really see too many films. I didn't recognize a single name either. After looking them up though... Gary Oldman - I've seen one or two movies he's been in but I don't remeber the character. I notice he did some voicework for a few video games I've played. Maggie Smith - I recognize from Sister Act 2 and Hook. Helena Bonham Carter - Nothing Alan Rickman - Remember him from Dogma and Galaxy Quest but didn't know his name. Michael Gambon - Nothing

Normally I can stop my hiccups by taking a really deep breath and holding it for about 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, I'll drink some water while holding my breath.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Feb 20, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) Oh yeah, and 1408 looks friggin' amazing! Advanced word on that one is also VERY high. I forgot that they were making that into a movie. It's based on a short story written by Stephen King. The story appears in the audiobook "Blood and Smoke" and also in the collection of short stories called "Everything's Eventual". Get the audiobook. It's great fun listening to King read the story. Two interesting notes mentioned in the story are that the room is on the 14th floor, which in reality is the 13th floor. Also, add up the numbers 1408.

QUOTE(soxsr08 @ Feb 19, 2007 -> 06:17 PM) May 18th: Shrek The Third - Starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, Julie Andrews, John Cleese, and Justin Timberlake June 22nd: Evan Almighty - Starring Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman, John Goodman, and Wanda Sykes These look like they might be interesting but I'm afraid they won't be quite as good as the originals. The Number 23 looks interesting. Quite a different role for Jim Carey.
