  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I don't work for the Hyatt nor the Palmer House Hilton so I have no idea other than guessing at their capasity. Perhaps you could call them for a more accurate guess. It's not a big deal. The only thing is if they squeeze in even close to the number of people they had at the "sold-out" 2005 fest, then their flimsy excuse of need to raise prices because they (willingly) went to a smaller venue is going to look really bad. If they had to double the prices because only half the number of people can attend, that might make a little more sense. I guess we won't know until the press release after Soxfest.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I have no idea how you're making your guesses so I'm bowing out of the numbers talk. Based on this comment: QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) The place is 1/4 the size of they Hyatt.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) But all the guests at Soxfest were not hotel guests. Less than half I would bet. The guess of 5,000 includes hotel guests and single-day passes for the entire weekend. In 2005 there were about 12,000 people there the entire weekend. Last year there were about 25,000 people. This year, based on how small I keep hearing this place is, I'm guessing there will be about 5,000.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) I have no idea how many tickets sold. And have no idea how you would know since each room can buy up to 4, and have not seen how many rooms were reserved for the event. I don't know either. You said that the place is 1/4 the size of the Hyatt. The Hyatt held about 15,000 comfortably throughout the weekend. 5,000 is a complete guess and could be way off but I keep hearing how tiny this place is.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) No clue, but a few friends who didn't get the package and are on a "wait list" in case of cancellations, that they have been told is close to 200 reservations. The place is 1/4 the size of they Hyatt. So that means about 5,000 tickets sold for the weekend? I'm still trying to figure out the logic of moving this thing to a smaller venue. Then citing the smaller venue as the excuse for the higher prices.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Yep. Since about 11am. Anyone know how many rooms the hotel reserved? I'm curious to know if selling out that quick is a result of a lot of people wanting to get in or just not many rooms available because of the smaller venue.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Wow. That really shocks me. I guess Soxtalk is the only place that is this bitter? Me too. Between the price increase and the number of people that were first-timers last year and were disgusted with the way it was run and vowed never to come back, I figured they'd have a hard time selling out. There are definitely a few people that don't care about the price increase and are still going anyway. I'm sure there are more than a few people that are buying them in hopes of making some quick money on Ebay. Maybe people just want the chance to yell at the team in person for such a crappy season?
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) I think the Sox are going to regret the price changes after the way this team finished this season. I'm hearing the rooms are already sold-out.
  9. Just an FYI, there's a misprint on the Sox website which says: That should read more than two(2) adults. In other words, it'll cost $299 for 4 people to stay at the hotel. THEN you get to buy weekend passes...
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) Do you still eat Macaroni and Cheese all the time too? Mac n Cheese and hot dogs (w/ketchup) is a meal around my house.
  11. QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) This is my whole point. Why is it for the 5-10 age group? Why am I not allowed to enjoy ketchup because I'm over 30? Why can't the hot dog nazis let us ketchup lovers be? What's really funny is that when I was that age that's ALL I would eat on a hotdog. I hated both mustard and onions. I've grown to like mustard and onions are ok in moderation but I've never lost the taste for ketchup. I don't know why I would. In fact, there are a number of things I remember hating as a kid but will eat now. I can't remember anything I used to eat and don't eat now...
  12. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Seriously? The game is identical to GTA, just with different characters. Its unreal how hard they copied. Again, I'm enjoying it. Oh yea. It's hilarious watching them try to defend it. Basically every argument they come up with is from the simple fact that it's on a newer console compared to GTA which came out a few years ago on a lesser system. Better graphics, better aiming, better character voices, better storyline... They completely ignore the fact that basic game itself (a ganster that steals cars, takes over territories, blows up stuff with different guns) is an exact rip-off of GTA. Then they try to counter with stuff like "Well GTA had racing in it. Does that mean they copied Nascar games?!?"
  13. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) Love the 360...currently playing Saints Row...a complete ripoff of Grand Theft Auto, but lots of fun. Don't tell that to the fanboys on the gaming sites. You'll start a war. Even though it's totally true...
  14. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) i remember commercials from spanish class of people putting fries and other nasty stuff in Mayo I've done that a few times. I also dip my fries into tartar sauce or honey.
  15. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) Ketchup is for eggs. I thought salt was for eggs. Or at least throw some mayo on a couple slices of bread and make a fried egg sandwich.
  16. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) I agree with this. The single-player portion of Pokemon games are like a "my first RPG." However, for multiplayer competitive battling, they are immensely deep and strategic (if you're in to that sort of thing). But the point is kind of moot because the games aren't yet online. I have two daughters and they both have GBAs so they probably do this as well. They also have a cousin and another friend that they always link up with when they get together.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) nothing beats the neon green relish and celery salt. Why dont you ketchup lovers go eat some pork hotdogs, beef dogs dont take well to ketchup. I actually prefer Oscar Meyer hotdogs over beef hotdogs. With ketchup. I'm I the only weirdo that also puts ketchup and mustard on a brat?
  18. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) Yes. Four out of the top ten selling console games of all time are Pokemon titles. I think my kids have just about all the pokemon games made. I've played a few of them once or twice. It seems to me they are all pretty much the same, just named with a different color. Walk a little ways, fight with another Pokemon, choose, "attack" or "run", capture Pokemon, repeat... Personally, I prefer games that involve a little more thinking/strategy.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 09:55 AM) Freedom of speech. Some people insist that this type of "entertainment" doesn't cause anything. I find it impossible to believe that listening or watching something for hours every day will not cause those values to become internalized. And it isn't just violence. I think you have to have those values to begin with to even start playing a game like that.
  20. Wasn't there a game once that allowed you to shoot JFK? Strange people out there. Honestly, this really doesn't suprise me. I thought about that when I first read that he was wearing a black trenchcoat.
  21. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) the general consensus of this thread, is PEOPLE ARENT HAPPY ABOUT THIS NEW POLICY. I think that's pretty obvious. What can we do about it? Who do we need to send emails to? Not crazy threatning emails. Just sane, calm ones that explain why we aren't happy and won't be attending.
  22. So... to get this thread back on topic, who is still planning on going this year? Also, has anyone realized that people that only bought the weekend package last year because they didn't need/want to stay in the hotel for whatever reason are getting totally screwed this year? Anyone that lives in the city and is a simple train ride away is going to have to try and buy indiviual tickets for each day...

  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) The White Sox do not see a profit from Soxfest. All profits go to Chisox charities. Instead of going to the bottom line, your $400 is going to things like building baseball fields for underprivledged kids. Doesn't the hotel get the money for the room? Considering they seperated the cost of the room and the weekend packages this year... I still don't understand doubling the price for the packages if it all goes to charity anyway. In past years it's gone up maybe 5 or 10 dollars but they've never doubled it.
