  1. JFC. Defunding =/= no police anywhere. It means get rid of what's not working and REPLACE with something better.
  2. That's probably right. I just remember people always talking about the Robert Taylor homes being visible from the upper deck in New Comiskey before they were torn down. That's the only reason I knew. Not trying to take anything away from your story though. I would probably be the same way. Our neighbor's have been letting off fireworks almost every night for the last week or so for some reason and one night my wife asked me if they were fireworks or gunshots. I said fireworks and she was like "How would you even know what gunshots sound like?" She has a point. It's not something we hear in our neighborhood, like ever.
  3. The Robert Taylor Homes were much farther south. Across from the Sox park.
  4. The story seems suspect. I don't know what that stretch of road looks like but I'm finding it hard to believe it didn't realize he wasn't supposed to be there and didn't see the 100's of people standing in the middle of the road until the last second. From one of the articles you posted:
  5. All you have to do is scroll up just a few posts to the post that StrangeSox made. That's a FRACTION of the videos I've seen over the past week. I could spend hours posting stuff I've seen. They are attacking people walking home with groceries that weren't even part of the protesting/looting/rioting, reporters, medical personnel, children, people simply standing on their front porch or balcony... So no, I don't think 1000s is an underestimate. I don't think de-funding them means there would be less of them. It just means they don't all need to be equipped like militarily soldiers. Maybe that money would be better spent on better training? Teach them how to deescalate situations instead of doing the exact opposite? And no, it's not okay to shoot police because thousands are taking things too far. But something needs to be done. They don't even care that they are being filmed doing the things they are doing because they know there will be no consequences for their actions.
  6. So you don't think the 1000s of officers caught on 100s of videos attacking unarmed protesters and escalating situations are a huge part of the problem?
  7. I can't imagine trying to do any kind of fitness or exercising while wearing a mask.
  8. https://blockclubchicago.org/2020/05/27/illinois-is-the-only-state-meeting-trumps-guidelines-for-reopening-amid-coronavirus/
  9. I keep reading on Facebook that the CDC has said that the mortality rate is now down to 0.2%. Of course nobody actually fact-checks anything on FB so, does anyone know where this number might be coming from? I've searched around a bit but can't find anything for certain.
  10. It's amazing how some people can change their minds when presented with new information. You should try it sometime.
  11. You'll be closer if you subtract about 20 years from that. They are still running on COBOL, which has been around longer than I have.
  12. Interesting that these churches took those same precautions... https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/498643-two-southern-churches-forced-to-reclose-after-leaders-and

  14. Have you lived in this country for long? Have you been sleeping through all the horrible things we have been doing to each other for the past few hundred years?
  15. Holy shit he can't even admit that he did something that came out "negative" even when that means good. He had the best, most perfect and beautiful negative test that doctors have ever seen.
  16. I'm a sucker for nostalgia type movies. Read a quote one time that really hit me too. “At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time and nobody knew it”
  17. So it was a face to face meeting? Something had to have been said here.
  18. Now put the number of months/years it took to get to those numbers.
  19. Completely random question. Use whatever criteria you wish. Which movie do you choose? Back to the Future or Stand By Me?
  20. Illinois "requires" it but my wife works in a gas station where they don't enforce either the employees or the customers wearing them. My daughter works at a pizza place where they were told by management that they can't turn customers away for not wearing one. I've read that death certificates do have a place for secondary cause of death. I don't know if it's standard nation wide or not.
  21. I related it to being punished by your parents and having to stand in the corner for 10 minutes. But instead of just doing that, you keep leaving and the time keeps starting over. Then you end up in the corner for hours instead of just the initial 10 minutes.
  22. You say your wife is a pharmacist, your daughters are studying to become surgeons and your brother is a nurse but you don't know how to tie on a mask? Seriously??? Good job not answering the questions.
  23. Also odd that in 18 years and over 30,000 posts that he's only ever mentioned having a family one time.
  24. He won't. For as long as he's been here, I know surprisingly little about him other than he lives in Kansas and needs a haircut. I've gone back and forth for years debating whether or not his entire posting history is just a schtick.
