  1. They were 49 - 27 against the ALC and 42 - 44 against the rest of the league.
  2. You sound a little like our network guy. He says he knows just enough about coding to be dangerous. Bmags gave a good example of how his degree doesn't necessarily relate directly to his job. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that simply have skills that they can apply to various different jobs and then they learn the rest while working. Sometimes employers look to see that you have a degree in anything simply because they want to know that you have the drive and ability to achieve something beyond HS. It's not a guaranteed of success. And I'm sure there are plenty of successful people without degrees. But I know the studies show that on average, those with degrees make more money over their lifetimes. The question I have is would making it free for everyone devalue it's worth? Would college degrees eventually be looked at like HS degrees where pretty much everyone has one and it's not really that special anymore?
  3. I've heard of a lot of people that went to college for one thing, then ended up in a career that's completely different.
  4. We haven't beaten it to death in a few months. I guess it was time...
  5. Taylor Swift convinced a whole lot of people to register to vote.
  6. A long but interesting read. https://www.currentaffairs.org/2018/09/how-we-know-kavanaugh-is-lying
  7. I'm honestly surprised that there isn't some sort of rule against having the ivy in the field of play where it can obscure the ball like it does. I'm also surprised they aren't made to have any sort of padding on the brick wall.
  8. You mean the game going on right now? Or who is pitching tomorrow for whoever loses?
  9. I don't even think I have 52 left. ?
  10. Guess I'll be buying a new HD for my PS4. https://www.engadget.com/2018/09/27/red-dead-redemption-2-will-be-a-massive-105gb-download/
  11. That's close, but not exactly what I'm looking for. I want the WAR for all the players drafted #1 overall for say the last 20 years. Then the war for all the players drafted #2 overall, ect... I'm guessing the numbers between the guys from #3 wouldn't be all that much better than the guys from #5 or #6. It would be simple enough to do, just time consuming.
  12. I wonder if there's ever been a study on the significance of where exactly a player was drafted. Like take the WAR of all the players drafted in the top 10 and see how much of a difference there really is. I suspect it would be pretty small.
  13. I accidentally killed my horse so many times in RDR.
  14. It's kinda cool that they are adding little details like this but I'm worried that having to routinely take care of all these mundane chores like eating, shaving, brushing your horse, sleeping, etc... is going to get in the way of the actual game-play. I remember games like Bully where you were forced to go back to your dorm room at a certain time or else your character would literally pass out and then likely get robbed. Or San Andreas where you always had to remember to eat and work out or else your character would lose strength and health. Or some of the other GTA games where the NPCs were constantly calling you to hang out and you had to keep up friendship levels with them. I think there's a fine line on how realistic games should be in regards to requiring everyday activities to be done. Otherwise it just turns into the Sims. All that said, I'm really looking forward to this game.
  15. This is exactly why I keep a landline.
  16. Once you answer, it confirms that it's a real phone # that belongs to a real person. Then they just sell your # to other spammers.
  17. Selling vs. trading it in is really all about how fast you want to sell it, how much hassle you are willing to deal with and how much you are willing to sell it for. You'll definitely make more selling it privately, but you have to go through the trouble of listing it, dealing with people looking at it, test driving it and coming up with the cash to actually buy it. Trading it is much easier but you'll get a lot less out of it.
  18. I've read a little bit about this story and there are a whole lot of facts still missing. Apparently they've given him quite a bit of the money already and bought him a trailer to live in but somehow he's lost it all already. The guy even admitted that he's still addicted to drugs. So I'm not sure what good handing him another $200,000 will do.

    2018 catch-all

Someone has always skied non-stop down Mount Everest. When did this happen? The words veritas and horizon have always been joined together to form Verizon. I never knew that. The Tower of Pisa has always had a prop to keep it leaning. Wait, it has a prop now? They never used a spit bowl in a dentist’s office. What do they use now? They have never seen a cross-town World Series. Technically, nobody has seen one since 1906. The 2000 Yanks/Mets series was a "Subway series". Lightbulbs have always been shatterproof. I've never even heard of this. Xlerators have always been drying hands in 15 seconds with a roar. I never saw one of these until around 2011 or so. Google Doodles have never recognized major religious holidays. I've never really paid attention to this. They never tasted Pepsi Twist in the U.S. I actually had to google this because I didn't remember Pepsi Twist at all. According to Wiki, it was available in the US until 2006. The detachable computer mouse is almost extinct. I'm not even sure what this is referring to.
  20. I would like to as I'm a huge Stephen King fan but I don't have Hulu. ?
  21. Started a new league last night. First game I started out and couldn't find the pocket at all. Then I figured it out around the 5th or 6th frame. Ended the game with 6 in a row and a 205 game. Then I started the second game with 6 in a row. So I literally threw 12 strikes in a row. Just not all in the same game. I think I had a 248 the second game, then everything went to hell in the third game and ended with a 160.
  22. I've also followed him since I was little but apparently I'm a little older than you since the first I remember hearing of him was when MTV played his "Fat" video all the time. I remember being outside playing with my friends and someone came out and said "They're going to show the Weird Al video in a few minutes!" and we all ran inside to watch it. I bought all his albums that were out at the time and have since bought all his new ones when they've come out. I think I might even still have a VHS that has a bunch of his videos on it. I also remember when UHF first came out and watched it so much that I could almost quote the entire movie line by line.
  23. We started our trip by flying into Philly on Friday. Then we drove to Atlantic City on Saturday and I got to see/swim in the ocean for the first time. Sunday we drove Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. More swimming in the ocean, walking on the boardwalk and we rode a few rides at Funland. Monday we went to Virginia Beach and took a boat tour. Got to see some dolphins. We also went up into a lighthouse on a military base. Tuesday we went to an Edgar Allen Poe museum in Richmond VA, then took a trip over to Blackwater Falls in West Virginia through the Appalachian Mountains. There wasn't a lot to do there besides see the falls but at least we can say we've been there now. Wednesday and Thursday we spent in D.C. and saw a ton of stuff. We visited the Arlington National Cemetery, witnessed the changing of the guards at the tomb of the unknown solider and got to see the Declaration of Independence and the US constitution in the National Archives. Friday we went to a science museum in Baltimore and ate at a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant. Saturday we went to Hershey, PA and got a ton of chocolate. We did the "make your own chocolate bar" but mine melted a little on the way home. Then we finally flew back home on Sunday. I think we spent a little more $$$ that we planned on but we packed a ton of stuff into the time we had. On our future vacations we'll probably only visit one or two states at a time until we get all 50.
  24. My first concert was Weird Al. I've seen him live 3 times in total. My wife actually got to go to a meet and greet with him and got one of my CD covers signed by him. As far as first album collection, that's more difficult to define. I did't have any older brothers and sisters and my parents didn't really have much of a collection of any kind of music except a bunch of old 8-tracks. When I was really young, I had a bunch of records that I listened to that I got mostly from garage sales or Salvation Army stores. It was mostly kid's stuff like Mickey Mouse or Sesame Street or The Chipmunks. I also had a bunch of those read-along books that came with a record/cassette. When cassettes started becoming more popular I did what every other kid that grew up in that era did and recorded songs off the radio. Then one day I won some contest and ended up getting Metallica's black album on cassette. After that I think I ended up getting all their albums on cassette. I later re-bought them all on CD and sold the cassettes to a friend of mine. The first CD I ever owned was Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction. These days I mostly just listen to whatever is on the radio or sometimes while I'm working I'll listen to songs on Youtube.
