  1. Once you answer, it confirms that it's a real phone # that belongs to a real person. Then they just sell your # to other spammers.
  2. Selling vs. trading it in is really all about how fast you want to sell it, how much hassle you are willing to deal with and how much you are willing to sell it for. You'll definitely make more selling it privately, but you have to go through the trouble of listing it, dealing with people looking at it, test driving it and coming up with the cash to actually buy it. Trading it is much easier but you'll get a lot less out of it.
  3. I've read a little bit about this story and there are a whole lot of facts still missing. Apparently they've given him quite a bit of the money already and bought him a trailer to live in but somehow he's lost it all already. The guy even admitted that he's still addicted to drugs. So I'm not sure what good handing him another $200,000 will do.

    2018 catch-all

Someone has always skied non-stop down Mount Everest. When did this happen? The words veritas and horizon have always been joined together to form Verizon. I never knew that. The Tower of Pisa has always had a prop to keep it leaning. Wait, it has a prop now? They never used a spit bowl in a dentist’s office. What do they use now? They have never seen a cross-town World Series. Technically, nobody has seen one since 1906. The 2000 Yanks/Mets series was a "Subway series". Lightbulbs have always been shatterproof. I've never even heard of this. Xlerators have always been drying hands in 15 seconds with a roar. I never saw one of these until around 2011 or so. Google Doodles have never recognized major religious holidays. I've never really paid attention to this. They never tasted Pepsi Twist in the U.S. I actually had to google this because I didn't remember Pepsi Twist at all. According to Wiki, it was available in the US until 2006. The detachable computer mouse is almost extinct. I'm not even sure what this is referring to.
  5. I would like to as I'm a huge Stephen King fan but I don't have Hulu. ?
  6. Started a new league last night. First game I started out and couldn't find the pocket at all. Then I figured it out around the 5th or 6th frame. Ended the game with 6 in a row and a 205 game. Then I started the second game with 6 in a row. So I literally threw 12 strikes in a row. Just not all in the same game. I think I had a 248 the second game, then everything went to hell in the third game and ended with a 160.
  7. I've also followed him since I was little but apparently I'm a little older than you since the first I remember hearing of him was when MTV played his "Fat" video all the time. I remember being outside playing with my friends and someone came out and said "They're going to show the Weird Al video in a few minutes!" and we all ran inside to watch it. I bought all his albums that were out at the time and have since bought all his new ones when they've come out. I think I might even still have a VHS that has a bunch of his videos on it. I also remember when UHF first came out and watched it so much that I could almost quote the entire movie line by line.
  8. We started our trip by flying into Philly on Friday. Then we drove to Atlantic City on Saturday and I got to see/swim in the ocean for the first time. Sunday we drove Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. More swimming in the ocean, walking on the boardwalk and we rode a few rides at Funland. Monday we went to Virginia Beach and took a boat tour. Got to see some dolphins. We also went up into a lighthouse on a military base. Tuesday we went to an Edgar Allen Poe museum in Richmond VA, then took a trip over to Blackwater Falls in West Virginia through the Appalachian Mountains. There wasn't a lot to do there besides see the falls but at least we can say we've been there now. Wednesday and Thursday we spent in D.C. and saw a ton of stuff. We visited the Arlington National Cemetery, witnessed the changing of the guards at the tomb of the unknown solider and got to see the Declaration of Independence and the US constitution in the National Archives. Friday we went to a science museum in Baltimore and ate at a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant. Saturday we went to Hershey, PA and got a ton of chocolate. We did the "make your own chocolate bar" but mine melted a little on the way home. Then we finally flew back home on Sunday. I think we spent a little more $$$ that we planned on but we packed a ton of stuff into the time we had. On our future vacations we'll probably only visit one or two states at a time until we get all 50.
  9. My first concert was Weird Al. I've seen him live 3 times in total. My wife actually got to go to a meet and greet with him and got one of my CD covers signed by him. As far as first album collection, that's more difficult to define. I did't have any older brothers and sisters and my parents didn't really have much of a collection of any kind of music except a bunch of old 8-tracks. When I was really young, I had a bunch of records that I listened to that I got mostly from garage sales or Salvation Army stores. It was mostly kid's stuff like Mickey Mouse or Sesame Street or The Chipmunks. I also had a bunch of those read-along books that came with a record/cassette. When cassettes started becoming more popular I did what every other kid that grew up in that era did and recorded songs off the radio. Then one day I won some contest and ended up getting Metallica's black album on cassette. After that I think I ended up getting all their albums on cassette. I later re-bought them all on CD and sold the cassettes to a friend of mine. The first CD I ever owned was Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction. These days I mostly just listen to whatever is on the radio or sometimes while I'm working I'll listen to songs on Youtube.
  10. This could have easily been posted in the "white privilege" thread as well. For those that don't think it exists...
  11. I have no memory of this game except for the highlights. I was likely at work posting on here and WSI at the time so I didn't get to see any of it live. I was also just over a month away from being laid off from a job that I had held for 11 years. I don't remember if they had told me yet at that point or not.
  12. I completely forgot about the ending until you just mentioned that. I had to explain it to my wife as she didn't remember watching Unbreakable. She's the type that has re-watch the previous movie(s) to remember what's going before she watches the sequel(s).
  13. Unbreakable was the very first movie my wife and I ever watched on DVD. Prior to that everything was VHS. We watched Split last year on our DVR. I had heard rumor that he was making a sequel to Unbreakable but I didn't realize it was already done or that he was intertwining Split into it.
  14. We currently have a 2003 Suburban and the AC doesn't work. We've taken it to 4 or 5 different places and spent 100's of dollars on it but nobody seems to be able to fix it. We had a 1993 Suburban prior to this and the AC went out in that as well. My parents have a 2007 and their AC isn't working right either. So for some reason, Suburbans seem to have a lot of AC trouble. Replacing brake lines is a common occurrence as well. With all that being said, we still want the option of having an 8 passenger vehicle. So we started looking at the Traverse. A little smaller, not as much cargo space but can still seat 8 people. We've been doing most of our searching online so this weekend, we went to a dealership to see one in person. This is literally the first one we've driven and we still aren't 100% sure it's exactly what we want. Plus it had 97,000 miles on it which is a little higher than we wanted. The salesman so far has been extremely overbearing. He mentioned the price and what a great deal it was no less than 5 times on the test drive. We told him that we wanted to think about it and keep looking. After reluctantly giving him my cell number, he called us 5 minutes after we left saying he'd take $1000 off the price if we wanted to do a deal. Then he called and texted me later that day. After he called me again this morning I texted him saying we are going to pass because of the high mileage and that we are a little worried about the towing ability. (We need to be able to tow a golf cart back and forth to a seasonal camping site twice a year). Then he texted me back about 2 other vehicles, neither of which have 8 passenger seating. I had almost forgotten how much I hate dealing with car salesmen... ?
  15. I know there have been a few players that have moved from being a catcher to some other position. Mauer, Schwarber and Harper come to mind. But are there any examples of a big league player moving from some other spot to being a full time catcher? I can't think of any.
  16. In our league it's 2 strikes and you are out. 3 balls is a walk. If you hit a foul ball on your second strike, you are out. I think most of the rules are designed to make the game as fast as possible since we have a time limit of 1 hour to play.
  17. Remember back when gasoline prices were skyrocketing and some places where over $4/gallon? Then everyone decided to stage this massive protest by not buying gas on one particular day to force the oil companies to lower their prices? It went viral all across the internet. Then everyone dutifully carried out the plan and it totally worked. That day was awesome.
  18. We had a double-header last night. We were down late in both of them but managed to come back and win both. I also learned a new rule. The other team was batting and there was 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. The batter had one strike and on the second pitch she popped the ball up to our firstbaseman. He caught the ball in foul territory but the runner on 3rd failed to tag up and ran home immediately. Firstbaseman threw to 3rd thinking it would be a double play but the umpire called dead ball. Apparently as soon as the ball landed in foul territory (even though it was caught) it's considered a strikeout and the runners cannot advance. Just another quirk of slow-pitch softball.
  19. Because the employers can't get US citizens to even apply for the jobs they are offering much less work them.
  20. I'll be there with my family in August. Rehoboth Beach is on our itinerary. We just plan on checking out the shops and stores on the boardwalk, maybe swimming in the ocean and riding some rides at Funland. And of course quoting this scene numerous times...
  21. The girls successfully defended their title as the best HS bowling team in the nation. 2x Illinois State champs. 2x National Champs. And if I'm reading the page right, one of them will get to throw out the first pitch at the Cardinals game tonight. http://ushsbf.org/2018hsbnationalchampionship.html
  22. The best advise would be to eat before you go. You are allowed to bring some food in with you as well.
