This could have easily been posted in the "white privilege" thread as well. For those that don't think it exists...

9 year anniversary of MB's perfect game: where were you?
Iwritecode replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have no memory of this game except for the highlights. I was likely at work posting on here and WSI at the time so I didn't get to see any of it live. I was also just over a month away from being laid off from a job that I had held for 11 years. I don't remember if they had told me yet at that point or not. -
I completely forgot about the ending until you just mentioned that. I had to explain it to my wife as she didn't remember watching Unbreakable. She's the type that has re-watch the previous movie(s) to remember what's going before she watches the sequel(s).
-
Unbreakable was the very first movie my wife and I ever watched on DVD. Prior to that everything was VHS. We watched Split last year on our DVR. I had heard rumor that he was making a sequel to Unbreakable but I didn't realize it was already done or that he was intertwining Split into it.

We currently have a 2003 Suburban and the AC doesn't work. We've taken it to 4 or 5 different places and spent 100's of dollars on it but nobody seems to be able to fix it. We had a 1993 Suburban prior to this and the AC went out in that as well. My parents have a 2007 and their AC isn't working right either. So for some reason, Suburbans seem to have a lot of AC trouble. Replacing brake lines is a common occurrence as well. With all that being said, we still want the option of having an 8 passenger vehicle. So we started looking at the Traverse. A little smaller, not as much cargo space but can still seat 8 people. We've been doing most of our searching online so this weekend, we went to a dealership to see one in person. This is literally the first one we've driven and we still aren't 100% sure it's exactly what we want. Plus it had 97,000 miles on it which is a little higher than we wanted. The salesman so far has been extremely overbearing. He mentioned the price and what a great deal it was no less than 5 times on the test drive. We told him that we wanted to think about it and keep looking. After reluctantly giving him my cell number, he called us 5 minutes after we left saying he'd take $1000 off the price if we wanted to do a deal. Then he called and texted me later that day. After he called me again this morning I texted him saying we are going to pass because of the high mileage and that we are a little worried about the towing ability. (We need to be able to tow a golf cart back and forth to a seasonal camping site twice a year). Then he texted me back about 2 other vehicles, neither of which have 8 passenger seating. I had almost forgotten how much I hate dealing with car salesmen... ?

TA: I Can Play Anywhere (talking about potential change to OF)
Iwritecode replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know there have been a few players that have moved from being a catcher to some other position. Mauer, Schwarber and Harper come to mind. But are there any examples of a big league player moving from some other spot to being a full time catcher? I can't think of any. -
In our league it's 2 strikes and you are out. 3 balls is a walk. If you hit a foul ball on your second strike, you are out. I think most of the rules are designed to make the game as fast as possible since we have a time limit of 1 hour to play.

Remember back when gasoline prices were skyrocketing and some places where over $4/gallon? Then everyone decided to stage this massive protest by not buying gas on one particular day to force the oil companies to lower their prices? It went viral all across the internet. Then everyone dutifully carried out the plan and it totally worked. That day was awesome.

We had a double-header last night. We were down late in both of them but managed to come back and win both. I also learned a new rule. The other team was batting and there was 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. The batter had one strike and on the second pitch she popped the ball up to our firstbaseman. He caught the ball in foul territory but the runner on 3rd failed to tag up and ran home immediately. Firstbaseman threw to 3rd thinking it would be a double play but the umpire called dead ball. Apparently as soon as the ball landed in foul territory (even though it was caught) it's considered a strikeout and the runners cannot advance. Just another quirk of slow-pitch softball.

Because the employers can't get US citizens to even apply for the jobs they are offering much less work them.

I'll be there with my family in August. Rehoboth Beach is on our itinerary. We just plan on checking out the shops and stores on the boardwalk, maybe swimming in the ocean and riding some rides at Funland. And of course quoting this scene numerous times...

The girls successfully defended their title as the best HS bowling team in the nation. 2x Illinois State champs. 2x National Champs. And if I'm reading the page right, one of them will get to throw out the first pitch at the Cardinals game tonight. http://ushsbf.org/2018hsbnationalchampionship.html

The best advise would be to eat before you go. You are allowed to bring some food in with you as well.

"Should be". Just an extra layer of precaution I guess. Similar to the extra orange base at first for the runners.

I don't understand the people that take rec league softball that seriously that they get involved in a fight over it. I'm there to have fun and try not to get hurt. We had a guy on our team a couple of years ago that had a temper that went from 0 to 60 in about 1.5 seconds. He got into more than a few arguments with players on other teams. One thing our league has done to try to help avoid collisions at home plate (which has led to brawls in the past) is that they installed a completely separate home plate for runners. It's slightly behind and to the left of the catcher. So when you come around 3rd base, you have to veer to the right and touch that plate to score a run. All plays at home are force plays no matter what. There is also a line marked on the 3rd base line that once you cross it, you aren't allowed to go back to third base. So once you pass that line, if the ball gets to home plate before you and the fielder touches the "real" plate, you are out. It's worked out well so far.

Joined a new adult/youth bowling league for the summer at a house that I basically grew up in. It was (still is) 2 blocks from my parent's house and I spent my entire youth bowling career there on Saturday mornings. It started a few weeks ago but we didn't bowl on Memorial Day and we were on vacation last week. So I was worried I'd be a little off after having so much time off. One of my best friends that lived right across the street from me and bowled with me in the same Saturday morning league is also in the league with his daughter. We bowled against each other last night and had a bit of an old school match-up. I shot 730 and he shot 707. We decided that we should bowl against each other more often. ?

We finished the first half of our season at 5 - 2. The two losses were pretty close. A couple of dumb mistakes lost the games for us. We seem to have a better team this year than in years past. Before most of the girls on the team were simply wives/girlfriends/co-workers of the other players and were mostly there to fill a spot. Now we have girls that actually played softball in HS and/or college and know what they are doing. Second half starts this Thursday.

They always bring stories up like this because they think people want no guns for anyone, anywhere, ever. There may be a small percentage that want that but it's completely unrealistic and not what most people are asking for.

Sandy hook didn't change anything. The Auroa movie theater shooting didn't change anything. The Vegas shooting didn't change much besides maybe bump stocks. The Florida shooting (which I believe is the one you are referring to) didn't change anything... At this point, I'm not sure what it would take for things to change.

Depends on what you consider the "last" one. There was one yesterday.

But all my Trump supporting friends on Facebook said that Obama is worth more now than when he became president and that Trump has donated all his paychecks. How can this be?
