  1. Figures it was that simple. I was trying to put it in as a link.
  2. How exactly would you quantify number of lives saved?
  3. Ford will stop selling every car in North America except the Mustang and Focus Active Interesting... cars like the Fiesta, Focus and Fusion (which is what I currently have) and the Taurus will be no more.
  4. It's funny because flu symptoms and the symptoms of a common cold are not that much different. So it's possible he just has a cold and has "flu-like" symptoms. I went to a walk-in clinic one time because I thought I had the flu and felt like death. Turned out I had bronchitis. ?
  5. Is there any way to change the number of posts per page?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2018 -> 03:47 PM) Dear Mods, when you go back in and edit a completed post...you get those weird symbols for the quotation marks and especially any apostrophes when the post reloads. I think it's you. You're the only person who's posts I've ever seen those symbols show up on.
  7. “It’s important to understand this is a one-time event. You only turn 50 once,’’ Kaval said. “The way I look at it, we’re giving back to the community. We’re going to have a great fun time at the ballpark together and we’re going to get a lot of people excited about the very bright future of A’s baseball in Oakland.’’ The A’s recent past has been bleak, with three consecutive last-place finishes, and the prospects for this season don’t look much better. Even more troubling for the fans has been the team’s penchant for trading away its stars just as they’re about to start getting expensive. In the last few years alone, the list of players who fit that profile includes Josh Donaldson, Yoenis Cespedes, Sonny Gray and Josh Reddick. On top of that, the club has explored moving to Fremont, some 25 miles to the south, and also further south to San Jose, as it seeks to build a new ballpark. An ownership group now trying to bring a big league team to Portland is sure to look into the A’s availability, even as the team proclaims it’s “rooted in Oakland.’’ That instability has eroded a fan base that has long been known for its devotion, if not necessarily its large numbers. “Their problems are bigger than giving away free tickets and diminishing any kind of value,’’ said Bob Dorfman, a sports marketing expert based in San Francisco. “(The free admission) certainly could build interest in the team with casual fans who may not otherwise go to a game. They may take this opportunity to be there for this is and say, ‘Hey, this is a better experience than I thought.’’’ Dorfman points out the A’s wouldn’t typically draw a big crowd on a Tuesday night – likely in the 10,000-12,000 range – so it’s not like they’re forsaking a large payout. That’s part of the reason he likes the freebie initiative, though the larger issues remain. “I think the intentions are good,’’ Dorfman said. “Ultimately, it’s got to come down to a better, consistent team and a cool place to play.’’ Since Kaval’s arrival in November 2016, the A’s have taken steps to make the Coliseum more appealing, improving the food offerings at the concession stands, setting up an outdoor plaza with food trucks and establishing unique new sections such as the Treehouse and the Farm. The club has also focused its search for a stadium locale in Oakland, and plans to announce a site by the end of the year after its top location option became unavailable in December. The expected revenue from a new ballpark, with a hoped-for opening date in 2023, would be critical for the A’s hopes of holding on to talented young players like third baseman Matt Chapman, first baseman Matt Olson and lefty Sean Manaea, instead of continuing the practice of trading them away. “We want to make sure they’re the players who open the new ballpark,’’ Kaval said. “We have a great young nucleus. We’re doing everything we can to make sure we can lock them up and they can be here for a long time. That’s not something that happens overnight, but that is a commitment.’’ edit to see if weird symbols show up.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 09:34 PM) Good thread. I'm shocked teams haven't gone to six man rotations yet. What's going to happen is 6-man rotations and at least 8 relievers on a team as rosters will be expanded a bit. There are so many bad pitchers on the non contenders now. Man, baseball has a lot of issues coming up. The key is to speed up the process, but the umps want no part of it. To do that you call the correct strike zone and you forbid more than 2 mound visits per game by anybody, infielders, catchers, managers. You also do not allow the hitters to leave the batters box once he steps in to start the at bat. If an ump sees a player re-do the velcro on the glove it's a strike. And it has to be called automatically. If a player disagrees (further delaying the game), he is automatically ejected. Baseball has to speed it up especially with all future changes to the game going to slow it up even more. I would think in a year or two, no starter will be allowed to face a batter a third time. So that means the starters go anywhere between 3 to 5 innings max. The premise of the article is litrerally that the pace of play IS NOT the problem.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 01:25 PM) Yay, more fear-mongering! Tanking is ruining the game! I swear, these writers are acting like this is the NBA. I wonder what the average temp at first pitch has been for the games that have actually been played this year. Especially compared to prior years.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 07:53 PM) https://finance.yahoo.com/news/maybe-trump-...-195710761.html Wal-Mart, not Amazon, is the real culprit destroying small businesses and hollowing out communities I thought that was pretty common knowledge.
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:54 PM) Another thought, does the teacher leave the students to confront the shooter, or shelter in place and defend? The talk of arming teachers has sort of died down, but there are a lot of questions that would need to be answered. Here are a few.
  12. I'll be playing for my 4th straight year. Our season doesn't start for another couple of weeks though. Schedule isn't even out yet.
  13. It Was Him: The Many Murders Of Ed Edwards This looks interesting but I can't quite tell if it's real or just some crack-pot conspiracy theorist trying to connect all these famous murders to one single man. That seems highly unlikely.
  14. Shot a 279 last night. Had a 9-spare in the third frame but everything else was strikes. Didn't even realize what I had done until the game was over. Just get up, throw the ball, sit back down. I lost the pocket in the second game but stayed clean. Lots of 7-spares. I think I had 3 or 4 in a row at one point. Ended up with a 195. I found the pocket again in the third game but left the big 4 in the 8th frame and then ended up with a 6-7 split in the 10th. Still managed a 205 but my series was only 679. Those splits ruined my chance at 700.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 01:51 PM) he's somehow incapable of whistling with his mouth Same here. I can whistle a little bit but its not really loud enough for anyone to hear it.
  16. Sorry, this is slightly off topic, but does anyone else see these weird symbols when Caulfield posts? It seems to have started around the same time as the site outage and it's only his posts I've noticed it on.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) Saw it was renewed for a longer s2. I thought the first two eps were good. It's not totally pro Trump and thought it is done in a way anyone can watch it without getting pissy. I don't get the whole Rosanne is pro Trump so now we have to bring back Tim Allen's show. Am I the only person that doesn't watch or not watch TV shows based on the actors political beliefs?
  18. Bought The Last Jedi on blu-ray, watched it, enjoyed it very much.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:02 AM) I think related is some really great reporting the Tribune has been doing on the gun that was used recently to kill Commander Bauer. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0228-story.html Legally bought in a gun store in wisconsin, then sold to a friend in a gun club. That friend then sold it through a website that doesn't demand identification of the buyer. The whole story is very well done, I highly recommend if you have access. Right-click link open in Incognito mode.
  20. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 12:05 PM) I know I am coming in late, but if I may offer my opinion on arming school faculty... NO, NO, NO, f***ING NO! With due respect to all posters in this thread, please do not fall into the trap of DJT, the NRA, and any other fool that thinks more guns are the answer. This is a distraction to shape the dialogue in the aftermath of Parkland while making it appear they hear and are addressing community concerns. Please do not even entertain the merits of this comical (and tragic) idea. This country has too many guns, too great an access to guns, too big an obsession with guns, etc. We have abused and stretched the rights granted by the second amendment for far too long. It is time the citizens demand a real change in the national dialogue and our laws. Guns are the problem, not the solution. Not to mention that the solution is more reactive than proactive. Our first priority should be to figure out how to stop them from getting the guns and/or getting into the schools with said guns in the first place rather than coming up with ways to stop them after they are already in and shooting.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:32 AM) We'd see many more unwarranted shootings than one actually stopping a mass murderer. But it would mean probably 10 million more guns being sold which makes everyone happy. Agreed. I remember some of my teachers from HS. Some barely had control of their classes/students. And I've seen a few videos online of teachers that don't have control.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) Bright Trump CPAC idea of the day... Because all teachers love their students and all students love their teachers, they will be much more effective shooters than an SRO cowering outside with no connection to those students. (Obviously doesn’t know most public schools well.) Love will help handguns outduel automatic weapons. Problem solved. More handgun sales and trainings for the NRA. Honestly, the thought has crossed my mind about how a teacher would react if forced into the situation of having to actually shoot one of his/her students to stop a threat. I think many would struggle with knowing they took the life of one of their own students. Even if it did save the life of others.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) Obviously they think the "solution" is more guns. When that doesn't work, they will say they just need more. What's funny is we already have "more" guns. America has about 42% of the civilian-owned guns in the world. We have almost as many guns in this country alone as the rest of the world combined.
