QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 01:25 PM) Yay, more fear-mongering! Tanking is ruining the game! I swear, these writers are acting like this is the NBA. I wonder what the average temp at first pitch has been for the games that have actually been played this year. Especially compared to prior years.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 07:53 PM) https://finance.yahoo.com/news/maybe-trump-...-195710761.html Wal-Mart, not Amazon, is the real culprit destroying small businesses and hollowing out communities I thought that was pretty common knowledge.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 07:54 PM) Another thought, does the teacher leave the students to confront the shooter, or shelter in place and defend? The talk of arming teachers has sort of died down, but there are a lot of questions that would need to be answered. Here are a few.

I'll be playing for my 4th straight year. Our season doesn't start for another couple of weeks though. Schedule isn't even out yet.

It Was Him: The Many Murders Of Ed Edwards This looks interesting but I can't quite tell if it's real or just some crack-pot conspiracy theorist trying to connect all these famous murders to one single man. That seems highly unlikely.

Shot a 279 last night. Had a 9-spare in the third frame but everything else was strikes. Didn't even realize what I had done until the game was over. Just get up, throw the ball, sit back down. I lost the pocket in the second game but stayed clean. Lots of 7-spares. I think I had 3 or 4 in a row at one point. Ended up with a 195. I found the pocket again in the third game but left the big 4 in the 8th frame and then ended up with a 6-7 split in the 10th. Still managed a 205 but my series was only 679. Those splits ruined my chance at 700.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 01:51 PM) he's somehow incapable of whistling with his mouth Same here. I can whistle a little bit but its not really loud enough for anyone to hear it.

Sorry, this is slightly off topic, but does anyone else see these weird symbols when Caulfield posts? It seems to have started around the same time as the site outage and it's only his posts I've noticed it on.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 31, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) Saw it was renewed for a longer s2. I thought the first two eps were good. It's not totally pro Trump and thought it is done in a way anyone can watch it without getting pissy. I don't get the whole Rosanne is pro Trump so now we have to bring back Tim Allen's show. Am I the only person that doesn't watch or not watch TV shows based on the actors political beliefs?

Bought The Last Jedi on blu-ray, watched it, enjoyed it very much.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:02 AM) I think related is some really great reporting the Tribune has been doing on the gun that was used recently to kill Commander Bauer. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0228-story.html Legally bought in a gun store in wisconsin, then sold to a friend in a gun club. That friend then sold it through a website that doesn't demand identification of the buyer. The whole story is very well done, I highly recommend if you have access. Right-click link open in Incognito mode.

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 12:05 PM) I know I am coming in late, but if I may offer my opinion on arming school faculty... NO, NO, NO, f***ING NO! With due respect to all posters in this thread, please do not fall into the trap of DJT, the NRA, and any other fool that thinks more guns are the answer. This is a distraction to shape the dialogue in the aftermath of Parkland while making it appear they hear and are addressing community concerns. Please do not even entertain the merits of this comical (and tragic) idea. This country has too many guns, too great an access to guns, too big an obsession with guns, etc. We have abused and stretched the rights granted by the second amendment for far too long. It is time the citizens demand a real change in the national dialogue and our laws. Guns are the problem, not the solution. Not to mention that the solution is more reactive than proactive. Our first priority should be to figure out how to stop them from getting the guns and/or getting into the schools with said guns in the first place rather than coming up with ways to stop them after they are already in and shooting.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:32 AM) We'd see many more unwarranted shootings than one actually stopping a mass murderer. But it would mean probably 10 million more guns being sold which makes everyone happy. Agreed. I remember some of my teachers from HS. Some barely had control of their classes/students. And I've seen a few videos online of teachers that don't have control.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 23, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) Bright Trump CPAC idea of the day... Because all teachers love their students and all students love their teachers, they will be much more effective shooters than an SRO cowering outside with no connection to those students. (Obviously doesn’t know most public schools well.) Love will help handguns outduel automatic weapons. Problem solved. More handgun sales and trainings for the NRA. Honestly, the thought has crossed my mind about how a teacher would react if forced into the situation of having to actually shoot one of his/her students to stop a threat. I think many would struggle with knowing they took the life of one of their own students. Even if it did save the life of others.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) Obviously they think the "solution" is more guns. When that doesn't work, they will say they just need more. What's funny is we already have "more" guns. America has about 42% of the civilian-owned guns in the world. We have almost as many guns in this country alone as the rest of the world combined.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 22, 2018 -> 08:45 AM) President out praising the NRA this morning, showing exactly how serious he is about actually doing anything. As far as more armed guards, Stoneman Douglas had an armed guard. Pulse had an armed guard. Mandalay Bay has a whole armed security force, as did the concert across the street. Fort Hood is a god damned military base. When someone is willing to kill and be killed, a few armed guards aren't going to stop them. Columbine had an armed guard as well. The kids just timed it when he was off-campus for lunch. With any security system, the weakest link is usually the human element.

18-year-old with a stash of legally bought weapons and no history of mental illness arrested when caught with a gun and knife at school. It doesn't specifically say that he had plans on shooting anyone at his school, but it seems to imply it. This is the second story I've read in the last week or so about a kid getting caught before he could do any damage. It also sort of blows a hole in theory that if we enact more gun laws, then only the criminals will have guns and that it's a mental health issue.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 09:50 AM) Both of my kids were/are tall for their age and it pains me putting my 1.5 year old in a backwards seat when his knees are 3-4 inches from his chest. This is a weekly argument my wife and I have. "He's uncomfortable! Look at how he's sitting!" "I don't care, the recommendation is rear-facing until 24 months, so that's what we're going to do!" I think it depends more on height and weight than age. If your kid is tall enough or heavy enough to be front-facing at 1.5 years old, then switch it around.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 12:25 PM) Ugh. I hate that talking point, and I think the most offensive part of it is the idea that we can sort humanity into "good guys" and "bad guys." Everyone is technically a "good guy" with a gun until they do something that makes them a bad guy... This. 100X this. The kid in the Florida shooting was technically a legal gun owner. Dylan Roof purchased his guns "legally" only because they screwed up his background check. The guy that shot up the concert in Las Vegas was also a legal gun owner. This whole "criminals don't follow the laws anyway" argument is a red herring.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 11:26 AM) Speaking of teachers with guns, this thread is a must read. The other problem with this "solution" is that it only looks at school shootings. How many mass shootings have we had that have taken place at somewhere other than a school? Movie theaters, concerts, colleges (not sure if they are counted in school shootings), shopping malls, businesses ect... Are we just supposed to have armed security and metal detectors at every single place where a lot of people gather at the same time just in case someone decides to run in and start shooting people?

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 19, 2017 -> 09:14 PM) The girls literally swept the post-season. A couple of slightly long, but still good articles explaining why this is only a problem in this country and what other countries are doing compared to us. America’s unique gun violence problem, explained in 17 maps and charts How gun control works in America, compared with 4 other rich countries TL/DR = We have more guns per captia than any other country and the least restrictive/effective gun laws.

This story sounds fishy to me. Dude drove 40 miles at 100 MPH with a "stuck" gas pedal. Apparently he was on the phone with a 9-1-1 operator for most of the time and it took the police deploying 3 spike strips to finally get him to stop. Why didn't he 1) simply push the brake pedal down to activate the fail-safe the BMW spokesperson said his car is equipped with, 2) put the car into neutral or 3) shut the engine off? Anyone of those options would have eventually stopped the vehicle. Link
