  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) If Cespedes were in RF, it wouldn't really affect attendance at all unless they were winning consistently. Pretty much. We could put the AL all-star team out there everyday but if they only win 70 games nobody is going to want to see them.
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 1, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) you are not looking at the big picture, you are thinking figuratively and not in the general terms. if the sox wanted to sell more tickets, then they would have gotten a marque player, whether that be a sp or not. but to give the appearance that the sox care about winning and making the fans happy, they do the little things to tweak the team, like signing MG ...... while at the same time keeping looking at the profit margin..... Little things like signing MG is not going to bring in the casual fans. They have no idea who he is and most likely don't care. They just want to see the team win. Die-hard fans like us who might be able to actually pick the guy out of a lineup aren't going to buy tickets because of this signing either.
  3. Well I continue to have good weeks but my teammates have been struggling terribly the past month or so. I had 225, 196, 230 for a 651 series. The problem was that two of my teammates struggled to break 100 and one guy on the other team bowled 40+ pins over his average the first two games. We only won one game, so now we are 4 games back in second place with next week being our last week. The best we can do is tie for first. I don't know if the guys that are currently in first were sandbagging the first half or what but they've been on a tear the past couple of months. They broke 1000 pins in a single game with just 4 guys last night. I'm not liking our chances next week. Whatever. 1st place, 2nd place... It's not a big deal to me. In a couple of years I won't remember where we finished anyway. One more week then it's on to softball season for me.
  4. I was just watching a game the other day where there was a pitch high and tight and the announcers discussed how that used to be just part of the game.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 29, 2016 -> 09:25 AM) My company dumped sick days years ago and just threw them in with the rest of the pool. I guess they saw how people were always getting sick or their kids were getting sick at the beginning of the year when they had the sick days, and were remarkably healthy when their supply of those days ran out. We have vacation time and personal time. The only difference between the two is that vacation time can be taken in 4-hour increments and personal time can be taken in 2-hour increments. Either way, they wouldn't care if I took a day off to watch baseball all day. It's my time to use when and how I want. The idea of using "sick" days only when you are actually sick is so antiquated.
  6. That's funny because this same thought crossed my mind earlier today as well. I don't completely hate the idea. At least it gives me a chance to watch most of the game instead of simply following it on gamecast.
  7. On every league I've ever been on, the standings were cumulative through the entire season. You start at week 1, bowl until the end and whatever place you're in is where you end up. Apparently the league I'm currently on was run differently last season. They split the season up into 2 halves. So at the mid-point there was a first half winner and all the standings were reset. Then before the end of the season, a second half winner was decided. The second to last week was used as a position round, then the first half winner faced off against the second half winner. Something like that. I'm not sure I understand it enough to explain it properly. Anyway, at the start of the season we voted on it and decided to just go the "normal" way. Somebody last night was complaining about it because according to our schedule, next week was going to be a position round. Which wasn't right. They just forgot to change it. Has anyone else heard of this or done things this way? It's seems like an overly complicated setup and what happens when the same team wins both halves? I like the way were are doing it much better. We get prize money at the end and the difference between finishing in first and last probably won't be all that much anyway.
  8. Well we went and fell out of first place by a game. We started the night tied but only won 3 games. The other team continues their roll and won 4. I'm don't think they've lost more than 2 or 3 games total the last 2 months. One more regular week and then the final week is a position round. I had a decent night. 232, 224, 165. Every time my ball came back it was just dripping with oil and it actually seemed to get worse as the night went on. I started the first game with 6 in a row. Then I left a solid 10 pin and kinda fell off from there. Second game I struggled through first 5 frames but manged a couple more strikes and then struck out in the 10th to save my game. The last game I just lost my line completely. My ball had almost no bite at all on the back end. I was standing a good 10 boards to the right of where I normally stand and throwing it pretty much straight. Of course that's the game the guy on the other team (160 average) decides to bowl a 202. That's hard to beat.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 22, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) IMO they could do whatever the hell they want. I will still make fun of how dumb I think it is though. Plus I am of the mind that they won games last year because of their talent not because they had a magician juggle their balls before the game. That last line literally made me LOL.
  10. QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:42 PM) I found it. Almost 3 years ago now, I got her a Hammer Jet Black Taboo, which was apparently all that and a bag of chips back then. I saw that it is retired now, so being the ball du jour doesn't carry a lot of weight. It also looked like it was drilled with some side weight, which would help it to hook more. That may be something to ask your pro shop about, particularly if she is learning how to throw a hook. SMO We picked her new ball up Friday night and she bowled with it in a tournament Saturday morning. 201, 189 & 171. She ended up with high game and high series for the girls. She's gonna catch up to me before lomg. FWIW, it's a diva xoxo, not divine like a previously said.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) a little slight exaggeration there.1000 hrs.... since when??? Huh?
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) He didn't have total access. Here is a story about him from last June. Even Conor Gillaspie likes the kid. It stated there were times his access was limited. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0620-story.html There's that quote I was looking for earlier:
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:34 AM) Maybe legally, but not morally. JR held a press conference after Horace Grant went back on a verbal agreement. He said he lacked character. We still have no idea exactly what was verbally agreed upon. All we know is that KW believes that LaRouche went above and beyond what was agreed.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:27 AM) Why don't the Sox compromise with Chris Sale and rip up his contract and give him one he deserves? I'm pretty sure that situation has actually happened with other players on other teams. The Sox absolutely have that right and I don't think anyone would complain if they did. I don't see how that helps your argument though...
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) It seems a lot of players are pretty pissed off he won't be around. Why is it necessary to piss off Chris Sale and Adam Eaton in order to accommodate Jimmy Rollins? That's on Adam himself, not Sox management. They just told him to dial it back. He's the one that decided to quit instead.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Yes. It seems to work that way with money. I'm sure there are more than a dozen players who would like more money, and it also seems at least the majority of players had no problem with this kid. It still hasn't come out that the kid did anything to bother anyone. And I still don't understand the it's OK if he's here 3 days a week. People who are bothered by his being there all the time, will be bothered by his being there 3 days a week. The kid doesn't have to be an asshole for the other players to not feel comfortable having him constantly around.
  17. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:30 AM) Heres that if that youve been using as the base for your whole argument for 2 days that still hasnt been even remotely confirmed by anyone credible. At this point, if this isnt WRITTEN in his contract he needs to stfu and good riddance. I think everyone can agree that there was some sort of verbal agreement between Adam and management. The speculation is exactly *what* was stated in that agreement. According to KW, what was verbally agreed upon and what was actually happening in reality were two very different things. I can't believe there was anything in the agreement that allowed the kid to be anywhere and everywhere 24/7 which is apparently what was happening and a point DA keeps missing for some reason.
  18. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 09:17 AM) Who says??? You just found a father who pulled his kid out of school ( and actually normal life) for over a month so he can follow him around. There is probably another one who wants his daughter to do the same. I can't find it now but I did read a quote from Adam LaRouche himself that said he was a little upset that he couldn't bring his daughter with like he does his son.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) I still think they could have said deal with it for 2 more weeks. I am under the impression that the kid was there all season long. Not just ST.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 10:14 AM) The more I hear about this, the more it falls on KW for handling it badly. There are only a few ways this could have started... 1. Kenny did this fully on his own. That's bad - he really shouldn't be interfering in the clubhouse that way. Leave that to the manager, coaches and players. 2. A player (or players) went to KW about it. This is also bad in terms of what it says about Ventura and the players involved. But either way, even if this is what happened, KW's response should have been to go to Ventura, agree on a plan, and have Ventura handle it. Not KW. 3. A player went to Ventura, who escalated it to KW. Same as #2, Ventura should be the one to handle it. It's not about the decision - which was a reasonable and professional one. It is the way it was handled, which sounds like, badly by KW. If the story about the team possibly boycotting the game is true, then I'm glad it was KW and not Robin that handled the situation. You really don't want the players and the manager on opposing sides of a controversy.
  21. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Thanks for your input. The 150 was just a hypothetical round number. I'd guess my average is really more like a measly 115. I have smaller hands and find myself stuck using 12# balls (or even 10s) when we go out. I feel like the low weights are causing a distinct lack of impact, so that's why I was considering buying a ball so I could use something a little heavier. You're probably right on that regard. Lighter balls have a tendency to bounce off the pins rather than drive through them like they are supposed to. A heavier ball should give you more/better pin action. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) I understand. I'd just like to get myself up to semi-competent, haha. Around here they have what are literally called "lousy bowlers" leagues. They stress that it's for anyone and completely non-competitive. I don't know how common they are in other cities though.
  22. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I'd definitely consider joining a league, but not until I improve substantially. You don't have to be a good bowler or have a high average to be on a league. My league has averages that range from 101 to 215 and everything in between. It's funny because the 101 and 215 averages are on the same team. There are usually dozens of leagues to choose from. Most of them are filled with people that just want a night out away from their kids and/or an excuse to drink.
  23. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) Hey bowling dudes, What would you say is the advantage in a personal ball versus the 'house balls' your local alley has for the public to use? Like, if you averaged 150 with house balls, and bought your own ball (and got accustomed to it, obviously), how much would you expect your average to improve? The absolute biggest advantage over a house ball is having a ball drilled to fit you properly. So many people that use house balls have to use one that is under weight because the finger holes on the heavier balls are typically huge. Simply having a ball that fits properly should make a world of difference. The next advantage would be having a ball that reacts to the lanes a bit better. There are tons of different cover stocks to choose from depending on what oil pattern you are typically on. Getting a ball that grips the lane and hooks into the pocket is more preferable than a plastic house ball that's going to go mostly straight. That's not even mentioning that fact that you won't have to waste a bunch of time searching for a ball every time you go. Are you on a league or thinking of joining one?
  24. Found out the "unofficial" results of the tournament my daughter bowled in on Friday. She missed the cut by 2 lousy pins. That first game of 111 really hurt. As for me, I had a good night last night. 214, 200 and 237. My teammates did not have as much luck. We only won the last game and that was because I struck in the 9th and got the first 2 strikes in the 10th. We lost the second game by 8 pins. The lanes seemed a little drier that usual. At least the back end was. My ball was snapping a little harder at the end. I even had 2 pocket 7-10s. Everyone was getting a lot of solid corner pins. I surprised myself and picked up all my 10 pins. I think I had 3 or 4. One guy had trouble even keeping the ball on the lane. He was going out to the first board and still hitting Brooklyn. He never really found his shot the whole night. I think we are again tied for first place.
  25. QUOTE (StillMissOzzie @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 02:03 AM) This is a great idea. I got my daughter a decent aggressive ball, I think it made a world of difference. SMO I talked to my pro shop guy and we decided to move up and get her a DV8 Diva which is a step or two above her current ball. We had to order it so it won't be in until Friday. In the meantime we also decided to get her current ball resurfaced. It was pretty slick. She bowled in a tournament on Friday and struggled a bit the first game with a 111. Came back strong on the 2nd game with a 203. Last 2 games were in the 180's and 160's. Watching her ball it just doesn't have a lot of snap at the end. Especially in the first game when the oil is the heaviest. That's really what made me want to get her a better ball. She's got tournaments the next 2 Saturdays and her school matches officially start the 24th. So I'll probably be updating more about her than me for the next month or so.
