QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:29 AM) AMC is developing a series based on Joe Hill's NOS4A2. Joe Hill, as some may know, is Stephen King's son. His writing is similar to King's, but he has his own voice. I thoroughly enjoyed NOS4A2 and knowing it's going to AMC gives me hope. Less of a chance of an Under the Dome disaster. I remember reading this book and thinking that I just did not like the main character. Interesting story though with lots of references to SK's books.
  2. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) No, I think people understand that adults get upset about this. I think people struggle with WHY they get upset about it. What about me telling someone Happy Holidays drives them to such rage? Recognizing that there might be kids from other cultural and religious backgrounds in a public school seems pretty harmless to me. In fact, NSS' experience seems pretty ideal to me. Because they have this mistaken belief that they are no longer allowed to say Merry Christmas. I'm questioning where that's coming from and why it would be any more harmful than any other greeting.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) Another example that shows baseball is swimming in cash. That's how he can get 10 million. Any owner who cries "poor" is lying through their teeth. Don't blame the players for taking the money, careers are short...they can't play for 40 years. Mark I could work 100 years and still not hit 10 million.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) I also think big public institutions like schools cave based on some expected blow back that may never arise. The "PC" culture has made people ASSUME things will cause an uproar, so they react before anything happens. This.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) I went to school with a Jehovah's Witness and we had "holiday parties" instead of "Christmas parties" and none of the kids actually cared. I went to school with a Jehovah's Witness and we had Christmas parties, Valentine's Day parties, Halloween parties and he go to go home early on the day of the party. He didn't care, his family never made a big fuss about it and the rest of us got to enjoy ourselves. Now the kids don't get any classroom parties at all. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) Do grown adults actually get upset if it's not called a "Christmas" party? Google "the war on Christmas". Yes people get upset when things are renamed to be "holiday" parties, parades, plays, etc... instead of "Christmas".
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:56 AM) Go visit a school and watch their Christmas, I mean Winter Season, play. They have colleges with Diversity Departments warning people that even a Christmas tree would be bad form and not 'inclusive'. It's a solution to a "problem" that never existed.
  7. The problem is that nobody was ever offended in the first place. But at some point, somebody decided that someone, somewhere *may* be offended at some point in the future, so we better replace the phrase with something else. Now it's just become backlash to the backlash. It's also the reason kids can't have christmas or easter parties in school anymore.
  8. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) No, but there's no shortage of complaining over "Happy Holidays". "Merry Christmas" is the politically correct phrase to use. I think it's the other way around. Everyone always posts how they are going to keep saying "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" and they don't care who they offend. I have yet to find a single person that is actually offended by either phrase. It's similar to the whole Starbucks cup thing.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Don't worry, though. Christianity as a religion is going away. Sure. There's only a couple billion people that identify as Christians. The religion that nearly 1/3 of the world's population follows is "going away". LOL QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Hey, quit saying Merry Christmas, Christians. It's offensive, you know?? I see this 2 and 3 times a day on my FB feed this time of year. Has anyone actually said this or even heard it said ever?
  10. Am I the only one that browses the site by just clicking "new posts" and don't really pay attention to which sub-forum each thread is in?
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) LOL It seems like they are dying to give you a free rental there doesnt it? They used to call and leave messages or send something in the mail. "We haven't seen you in a while. Come on in and get a free rental!" Haven't had either of those lately.
  12. Finally had a good night last night. 224, 215, 211 I figured out at least three things I had been doing wrong the past few weeks. I had to move over farther left than what I'm used to, I had to adjust my wrist brace slightly and I had to make sure I followed through on my swing. I only threw one split the entire night. We are still hanging on to first place but just barely. The second place team is only 2 games behind us and next week is a position week.
  13. We have a few Family Videos around here as well, although I haven't actually been inside any of them for quite awhile. Since we finally got a DVR last year, I just wait until the movie channels have a free preview weekend and record a bunch of stuff to watch later. I've got a ton of movies on there I still haven't gotten around to watching. Although I bet if I went to FV tonight they'd give me a free rental simply because I haven't been there for so long.

Regarding TWD: What was the reasoning for showing the ants(?) crawling in through the window and all over the plate of food the kid left on the floor? Was there some larger point that I missed somewhere?
  15. I wonder if you took a poll of random Sox fans at any given home game, how many of them would even know who Nancy Faust is? 15%? 20% maybe?
  16. I'm not a writer but I read a lot and it seems to me that writing a good ending is the most difficult part for a lot of writers. There have been many times where I've read a book and it's really good right up until the ending.
  17. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Nov 25, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Lol what? There have been trades, but I wouldn't say "tons". Hardly any FA's have signed. It's just a slow start to the offseason transactions. Did he really have to make the whole post green?? I though it was pretty obvious.
  18. Sounds like your insurance broker may have been a car salesman at one time.

Is anyone else watching Heroes Reborn? Apparently last week was the last episode for the year. They come back in January for another 3 episodes. Seems odd to split up the season that way. Also, they are doing this story-line that seems vaguely familiar. There is a set of twins, a boy and a girl and their mother died while giving birth to them. Then immediately afterward they were separated and hidden and grew up knowing nothing about each other. Now they have found each other and have to join together to save the world. I swear I’ve heard this plot somewhere before. But it was a long time ago somewhere far, far away…
  20. The final measurement I saw for our little town was 14". The only place that I saw that had more was Capron at 14.2"
  21. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Correct. I have heard that the fee is 1% of your income. Does anyone know if that is true? Also, if I have my own insurance plan through work, would the 1% fee be our combined household income or only her income since she is the only one on it? https://www.healthcare.gov/fees/fee-for-not-being-covered/ 2.5% of household income in 2016 or $695 per adult. Whatever is higher.
  22. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) Yeah he told me by not going with an ACA plan then I will get penalized just like anyone that doesn't have health insurance. What he presented was only like $204/month though. I attached the power point presentation that he emailed us. I get it now. It's because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. So you'd be one of the few that actually has insurance, but still have to pay the yearly fee (that will continue to go up every year) on top of it.
  23. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:36 PM) I know by not going with an ACA plan there is a fee, but have any of you decided to go this route for your insurance? I don't know of any fee. I get my insurance through my work and they have a plan that was grandfathered in so it isn't an ACA plan and I don't pay any extra fees.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Southern Indiana, near Louisville. We went to Louisville on vacation one year. It was around August IIRC. Every morning we got up it was so humid it was hard to breathe.
  25. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) Sunny with a high of 55 here today. Where is "here"?
