QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) We already have experts forecasting the end of the 2016 season? No. -
Did anyone else see the last 2 lines of the article? I read that as if the Sox decide to fire Robin mid-season, they can still offer Sandy the job.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) I hate how odds/projections come out and are taken seriously on the first day of the offseason, or even beforehand. A lot can change over the next couple months for all teams. I hate that Vegas odds are taken seriously at all considering they are based on what stupid people are betting on instead of any kind of statistical team/player analysis. -

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) Ever just lose your line in the middle of a game? More times that I care to admit. Had a decent night last night. Shot a six-thirty (something) series. Missed an easy spare in the 10th frame of the 3rd game though. Ended up with a 200 exactly in that game. Should've been more like 220. I got my average up to 189, we are in first by 5 games and I currently have the high scratch series in the league at 687. So I'm happy. -
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) So if you commit a crime, no matter how small. Shoplifting or selling cigarettes. You should be able to be killed? Said no one ever.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Police have been present in schools for decades—particularly in low-income communities of color—but some experts also tie their increased presence to the rise in school shootings. After Columbine, the Department of Justice invested $876 million to fund the presence of nearly 7,000 school resource officers like Fields (S. Carolina officer accused of brutality and racism in dealing with black female student in classroom). During the 2013–2014 school year, there were more than 82,000 officers working in public schools. yahoo.com This is funny because there was an armed guard at Columbine the day the shootings happened. He just happened to go off-campus for lunch that day.

Who does SoxTalk prefer to win the World Series?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) As a Sox fan, and a Cubs hater, I believe I owe the Mets my rooting interest. Sweeping the Cubs not only knocked the Cubs out this season, but may have an effect in the future. Since the LCS went to best of 7, no team ever swept made the playoffs the next season. Do you mean no team ever swept in the LCS? Because I know the Cubs got swept in 08 and 09. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) The double negative police out in full force. But if you could not care less, by definition, you can/could only care more than you already do. It's not a double negative. He's also right. The proper term is couldn't care less. It literally means you could not care any less than you do right now. -
Turn the heat on.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) https://np.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/3...derstand_xpost/ Another cringeworthy post. The Cubs don't have the monopoly on heartbreak, especially when it's not like Chicago has exactly been starved of sports championships in the recent past. Good grief. It's still just a game. If the MLB for some insane reason ceased to exist tomorrow, your life would go on.

We completely gutted and remodeled our kitchen about 5 years ago. We made sure to get a permit because we know our asshole neighbor would call us in the second he saw a contractor's truck in our driveway. $10-12K is probably reasonable. We paid less than that but the COL in our town is probably lower. Originally we were just going to replace the cabinets and counter tops and were checking with the big box stores like Home Depot and Menards. Then we ended up going to a local kitchen and bath place and they did everything for us including rewiring the electrical, putting up new drywall, installing new appliances, etc... Worked out well in the long run. We went a little cheap on our flooring and regret it. Went with linoleum and should have gone with tile instead. It already needs to be replaced.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) To the point where people will supposedly spend thousands or tens of thousands just to see the movie when it premieres. I've never heard of this but I guess it could happen if someone had to travel a long distance for it. Although there are also people out there that will spend thousands of dollars for a video game system on Ebay just to have it "first". Almost the same thing.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Nice games Code. And about the capping of handicap, I have seen it done before and I think it makes sense. My Tuesday league because one huge mix of teams after 3 leagues all lost teams and merged. So we have all guy teams, all women teams and some mixed. Just this last Tuesday we bowled one of the all women teams. The highest average on the team was a 135. Well, their 90 average bowler got lucky and bowled the first 3 frames as strikes. She had her average by the 4th frame, and the rest was gravy. It is just easier for a lower average bowler to bowl more pins over than a higher average bowler. To match that lady's score for the game (she had a 150-something) I would have had to bowl a 240. I didn't bowl a 240. I bowled a 200, but not 240. That's the thing about bowling though. If you have a 180 average and bowl a 240, that's pretty damn good and you should win. But it's the same if someone with a 90 average bowls a 150. Sure the better bowlers can throw a 150 with their eyes closed but for a lesser bowler, that's a huge accomplishment. There's probably a reason they only have a 90 average. It all evens out in the end anyway. It's damn near impossible for anyone to consistently bowl 60 and 70 pins over their average, because if they do, their average will just keep going up. My team has a pretty good mix. Our averages are 126, 127, 149 & 187. We are in first place by 3 points and bowl against the 2nd place team next week. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:41 AM) No offense to the other 100 posts, but this is the first one to make sense to me. Greg's world in a nutshell.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) Eh, now you are really stretching to keep this going. What you said, isn't there in any real volume. A few people said it, SOXTALK didn't say it. And as far as I can tell, only one person mentioned wanting Manny Acta. And it wasn't even to replace Robin.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I would ask you and all soxtalkers to comment on my comment about the cop breaking the unwritten rulebook code of cop-citizen in this case. Warning, no ticket for such an offense when the driver has nothing on his record. Baseball has a ton of unwritten rules; the cops had one in this town as well until I got pinched. There is no unwritten rulebook. You broke the law, you got caught. End of story.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Yes. 1 a.m., the driver (me) has nothing on his record; he's polite, not drinking, just wanting to make a buck the old fashioned way. Unwritten rulebook says 'let that guy off with a warning.' I'm amazed at how often you have some view of how things are or should be and then are completely shocked when absolutely nobody else shares that same view.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Because it's like baseball's "unwritten rule book." The unwritten cop-law-abiding citizen rule book says you get a warning for such a non-heinous crime such as rolling a stop sign when basically nobody's on the road. You really, truly believe this don't you?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Without looking it up, 4 game sweeps in the CS aren't too common. I could see them picking up 1 or 2 wins before this is over. Hopefully that's it, because coming back from an 0-3 deficit to win and advance is a nightmare I don't think the world is ready to experience. I don't remember where I saw it but there have been somewhere around 33 teams that have gone down 0-3 in the championship series. IIRC, only 5 made it to game 5, 3 forced game 6 and 1 made it to game 7. Edit: Found this link.

I was born in 77 so I didn't get to see the original trilogy in theaters until they re-released them in the early 90's. But ROTJ wasn't released until 1983 so I was right at the perfect age to get into all the action figures. But the release of each subsequent set of trilogies has brought in an entirely new generation of fans.
