QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) The Mr Robot season finale is being pushed back a week That's interesting. I wonder what my DVR recorded then. Did they show last week's episode again?
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) Thanks for all the responses! Are you trying to build a case for your parents to get you a car?
  3. We actually gave my daughter my old car (03 Grand Prix) when we bought a new one a few years ago. But then it started acting up and not running right so we sold it for $500 and gave her the money to buy a laptop instead. Now she drives our 03 suburban which we only use on weekends for camping. She's paying her own way through college right now so we haven't pushed her to buy herself a car quite yet.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) That's cool. But why is it a fairy tale? Why has America become so skeptical about matters such as these? I've read estimates of around 4,200 different religions around the world. All of them say they are the right one and the others are false. You have no more or less proof that the one you believe in is true than any of the others do.
  5. So I guess I'm starting the year with a 164 average. Not horrible I guess. It gives me a chance to raise it up over the year rather than starting with a 220 and dropping. The last league I was on I was somewhere around a 195 avg. I'm also using a brand new ball and still getting used to how it reacts. Drama in the league has already started as well. It's a handicap league (100% of 200) and one guy wanted to cap the amount of handicap a bowler could have at 100 pins. I'm not even sure that's legal under USBC rules? It got voted down anyway. Then our secretary got offended and quit the league because we voted to make the secretary fees $16/team instead of $4/bowler. The reasoning behind this is complicated. There are 4 bowlers/team, but you are allowed to have an extra bowler or two on your roster. So if someone can't make it one week, another bowler can step in. Someone brought up the fact that if someone only bowls once or twice throughout the whole year, should they really be subject to the full amount of fees? The secretary left a copy of her "resignation letter" on all the lanes. She claims it wasn't about the money even though that's the exact reason she quit. Whatever. I'm just there to have fun and enjoy a night out with no kids.
  6. My parents usually had an extra car because my mom had a vehicle that she was allowed to use for personal use through her job. The first car I was allowed to drive myself to school and work was an old POS station wagon. I don't even remember the year or the make. Just that it was brown and had a hole in the floorboard in the back seat. I was eventually able to save up $1000 to buy my first car which was a 1988 Chevy Celebrity.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Yeah, the reveal was pretty early, which makes me wonder what is going to be the twist. I wonder if the twist will be finally revealing Tyrell's plan. Whatever it is.
  8. I read another recap of the game and this part of it didn't make sense. Ball hit down the line and called foul. Replay overturns call. Ball hit down the line and called foul. Not reviewable? What? Does the writer just not know what he's talking about or was it somehow different than the other play?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) BAM, What? Part of me was excited about the reveal, but another part of me now wonders where the show goes after letting go of the biggest secret. Hopefully they can keep it up. It's kinda odd how the show seems to be wrapping up. Tyrell is falling apart. The hack seems to be coming together. Angela is going to get her settlement. There's no way it all ends up working out perfectly right?
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) i have been very critical of the sox ownership as anyone here. but they are not going any where. so how to fix this streak of ineptness from the sox org, a new harsher directive ..... get rid of the good ole country club inner circle of no accountability. Those two ideas can't co-exist. The inner circle of no accountability comes directly from the ownership.
  11. I searched and the last bowling thread we had here was from 2012. Since I got a new job closer to home, I am finally able to join a bowling league. We had our meeting/warm-up night last night. We got 2 free games and I shot 203 and 207. Not bad considering I've bowled very little over the past 3 years. I'm counting on my teammates to provide the handicap. I also got a new ball for the first time in 15 years or so. It's fun to see it react much farther down the lane than my old ball. I've only bowled 4 games with it so I'm still getting accustomed to it. Should be a fun year. One thing I found odd was that one guy during our meeting wanted to cap the amount of handicap a bowler could get. Right now we are at 100% of 200 so if someone has an 80 average, they get 120 pins of handicap. He didn't like that. We voted on it and it didn't pass but I've never heard anyone complain about that before.
  12. I have a Half-Price Books Outlet near my house that has different sales all the time. A few months ago it was everything in the store was $1. Just last week they had a deal where you fill a bag with as much stuff as you could for $30. Between my wife, myself and a couple of other people we filled up a bag and paid less than $1 per book. So lately I've been buying a bunch of books that everyone says are good but I've just never gotten around to reading. I picked up the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy (they didn't have the 3rd one for some reason), all three of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Gone Girl and quite a few of the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. I also found a biography about Charles M. Schulz (the creator of Charlie Brown/Peanuts Gang). I never even knew it existed but I've always been a big Charlie Brown fan. I still have Finders Keepers by Stephen King sitting at home as well. Just haven't found much time to read lately. Currently I'm about halfway through Say It's So by Phil Rogers. It's about the 2005 White Sox.
  13. IIRC, it was determined that it wasn't taken at Wrigley. EDIT: Apparently it was shot at Foxfield Track in Charlottesville, VA somewhere around 2007 or so.
  14. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) Once the ump said he was out the play was over so there is no way they can overturn that. Did the umps or MLB make a statement about this? I think that's where my confusion is coming from. Either the play should have been overturned or it shouldn't have been review-able in the first place. Yet neither one happened. Unless the decision from NY was that the play couldn't be overturned because the ump called the play dead and took the ball from Flowers?
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) Yeah, the year before my first kid started kindergarten, our district switched to a calendar that runs 9 on/2 off/9 on/2 off/9 on/2 off/9 on, which leaves 8 weeks for summer break. This is the way I look at it: Everybody else is taking family vacations from July 30-August 12 while my kids are in school. We can take family vacations from October 4-17 while everybody else's kids are in school. Hotels are a little bit cheaper and popular tourist attractions will be less crowded. We're actually coming up to Chicago the week of October 11. I expect the museums to be much less crowded than if we were there right now. I've heard of that before. It's essentially year-round schooling. There was talk of our school district going to that schedule years ago but they never did.
  16. Well our final game was last week. We lost in the first game of the playoffs. We didn't have our usual players and one guy was only playing because he took a couple painkillers before the game. We played one of the better teams but we did manage to get the winning run to the plate. Just couldn't quite pull it off. I'm just glad that I managed to make it through the season without injuring myself. Looking forward to playing again next year. Bowling will keep me occupied until then.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Nothing. A spike like this is all about suppressing demand until supply can rebound. That was my thinking though. Demand is going to start increasing if it hasn't already.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) So Uribe's World Series 9th inning catch into the stands doesnt get any love? Rizzo made the "catch of the century" against a terrible Brewers team fielding a AAA lineup? It was a really good catch, but goddamn there have been better catches in bigger moments. Hell, Dewayne Wise's catch was better given the circumstances Considering the circumstances, Uribe's catch out-ranks them all. Diving over the wall in the bottom of the 9th of a 1-run World Series clinching game with a runner on 2nd base.
  19. I wonder how much the kids heading back to school had to do with the prices rising? Maybe nothing at all but I know when I was still commuting into Chicago everyday, I hated this time of the year because my commute time always went up with more traffic/buses on the road slowing everything down. Don't know about anywhere else but my kids started back yesterday.
  20. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) That's why I hate replay in baseball. You end up playing imaginary baseball at times. It was clear Tyler didn't throw because the ump confirmed he was out. Anybody who watches baseball knows that the runner would be out 99% of the time on the play, but the other 1% the catcher ends up throwing it into right field and he makes it to third. But because the ump blew a call we don't know what would have happened. That puts the replay guys in tough spot too because they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Either call they make is going to rightfully piss off one of the fanbases. I think replay has helped in getting the calls right more often but there are definitely situations where it gets tricky. I thought the general rule was to continue the play regardless of the call. Which is why it surprises me that it wasn't overturned. But if the ump calls the play dead, are they supposed to continue the play?
  21. What was the reasoning on that play anyway? It was pretty clear Flowers missed the tag. But when the ump called the runner out, Flowers turned and gave him the ball. I'm shocked it wasn't overturned.

Mr Robot spoilers: QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:04 AM) Good call. Nailed it.
  23. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 05:16 PM) I'm not saying it will make any difference but I do know if fans don't tell management how they feel, NOTHING will certainly change. We all know they are already aware of this (and all the other) Sox message boards. It's impossible they don't know how we feel already. But filling out this survey can't hurt either.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) Here's why liberals think that anyone with a gun will go crazy at a moments notice and start shooting. Its because THEY would do it if they had guns. Projection. I say we start by banning liberals from having guns. That should reduce the crime rate almost right away. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/08/10...n-at-boyfriend/ I thought you were going to link to this story.
