  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Extended trailer for they little B movie I'm in. Apparently the Writer/Directer of the movie knows Lowell Dean who made Wolfcop, which I guess has a pretty big cult following. Guess Lowell likes what he's seen and might get this little B movie, with a 3k budget, to take off. Things seem to be getting pretty interesting. I don't know why but I read this post with the voice of Kip Dynamite in my head.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) This run reminds me of the 2000 White Sox who had the big 8 game winning streak on the road, which pretty well put away the 2000 divisional title. Anyone else? The difference is that in 2000, that winning streak put them 8 games up in the division and they basically never looked back. This winning streak hasn't even gotten them to .500 (yet).
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) That certainly was an issue for the Sox in 2008. Because they almost completely folded the last week and had to fight for their lives to get to the playoff game to actually get into the playoffs, their rotation was a mess against Tampa Bay. Mark That rotation was a mess before they ever got to the playoffs. They had guys like Clayton Richard and Nick Masset starting games in September.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) Not sure if it was by a university campus but... http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/11/29/white...irrors-ferguson Here's another one. The actual altercation/shooting took place off camera though. link
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) Yes, every post you have made has been very clear. Fans aren't going to games today because we didn't go to the enough playoffs in the 1960's. Or the 70's, or the 80's or the 90's or the 2000's... Even if that's not the point Thad was trying to make, it's not a bad one. Sports fandoms are built generationally (not a real word I know). How many of us are fans of a particular team because we had a parent or a grandparent or an aunt/uncle that was a fan? How many potential fans have we lost because these same parents or grandparents got tired of watching their team lose and never passed their passion down? Take a look at the Red Sox as a perfect example. For most of the 60’s their attendance was horrible. They couldn’t even draw a million fans to the park. Then they went to (and lost) the WS in 1967. After that their attendance started going up, they started making more playoff appearances and several generations of fans have come along. Sustained success over several years is typically what builds fanbases.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 09:04 AM) I think you hit on a key point here. I honestly think that based on attendance patterns, and what respective fans say about their teams, Sox fans don't enjoy the game of baseball as much as others. They enjoy winning, and living vicariously through that, but not the game itself. They won't watch baseball just because they enjoy the game. They watch it to fill something that is missing, because when winning isn't there, they won't do it. I enjoy the game of baseball. I’ve watched other teams on TV, I’ve watched minor league games in person. I’ve watched a ton of (fast-pitch and slow-pitch) softball both on TV and in person as well. From t-ball all the way up to professional. The difference is that when I’m watching those games, I’m not emotionally involved in who wins or loses. When I watch the Sox, I want them to win. When they don’t, I get upset and don’t want to watch anymore. I’m not going to punish myself by watching something that’s just going to make me mad. So I’ll simply turn off the TV and find something else to do. That’s just me personally. I’m sure there are still people out there that can watch the Sox and have a good time whether they win or lose. I don’t think that makes me a fair-weather fan either. I still follow the team and hope they do well. I still wear my t-shirts and hats. I still defend them to my Cub fan friends. I just have a really hard time watching them lose.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 25, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) If we are far enough away that I don't have a shot, neither will the murderer I don't think this is necessarily true. Only one of you is going to care about collateral damage and actually hitting what you are aiming at. While you may not have a shot, he can just point in your general direction and get lucky.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:57 AM) Our crime rates have actually been falling steadily for a couple of decades This has been pointed out before. Greg doesn't read these posts.
  9. This conversation actually happened at our house one time when our youngest daughter came in with mud on her for whatever reason. Wife (talking to youngest daughter): Look at you, you've got mud on your face. oldest daughter: You big disgrace me: kicking your can all over the place. Oldest daughter and I high-fived while my wife gave us a dirty look. Another time my middle daughter was talking about a ceramic cat that she saw at a garage sale. She said something like "I want to buy it and paint it black." I was like "Ok Mick Jagger." While she gave me a confused look my oldest starting singing (to the tune of Paint it Black) "I found a ceramic kitty and I want it painted black." I was all: It's awesome when a teenage girl knows the lyrics to classic songs that were released before *I* was born.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) Maybe most of the kids didn't like the fact that their parents didn't attend or cared? I don't know because my parents went to my sporting events when i was a kid. Their was only a handful of times at least one of my parents weren't at the games. Did they stay and watch practice, no, they dropped off and left (or if my sister was along, did something with her while I practiced). And by no means were my parents helicopter parents. I also don't know many people who didn't have parents attend. I rarely played in games where the stands weren't full (and it wasn't random people watching us play little league or AYSO...it was parents and/or grandparents). Now if you are referring to high school, I'd say that would differ and parents would come a lot less often (but that was partly because of the time of day the games were played...no longer all that conducive to working parents). Same with me. My parents were at pretty much every single sporting event I ever played in and for the most part, my friends/teammates had their parents there watching them as well. My parents were far from helicopter parents. I was allowed to walk the 6 or 7 blocks to school by the time I was in 3rd or 4th grade, I was allowed to ride my bike around my neighborhood and I was allowed to play outside until it got dark but they very rarely missed any of my games. Based on stories I've read and movies/TV shows I've seen, the generation before mine didn't have a lot of parent involvement in sports. I'm thinking maybe back in the 60's or 70's. Not so much in the 80's and 90's.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Here's the problem. "Oh no, the White Sox would never be able to sustain a rebuild. Could imagine what it would do to the fan base if they had like 4 losing seasons out of 5 years?" Yeah, we've already done that. We're going to really pay for it next year based on how terrible the walkup crowds look this eyar. The "rebuilding will destroy this fan base" threat doesn't work when we've done exactly that without any rebuilding and with a roster that looks very, very far from a sure thing over the next few years. Agreed. The attendance already sucks. I'm sure it could go down more but I doubt it would make that much of a difference. Using Cleveland as an example, they lowest they've gotten in the past 15 years is just a hair under 1.4 million. The only playoff appearance they've had recently was a single WC playoff game in 2013. They've been averaging around 1.7 million or so the past 5 years. Being bad and losing a lot certainly doesn't help the attendance, but I don't think it completely decimates it either. edit: Quoted the wrong post.
  12. I got all of the Batman "Arkham" games at once just last year and played them all in reverse order for some reason. I think this may have been a mistake. I just recently started playing Arkham Asylum and finished the main storyline in a few days. There were a few parts I had to redo 2, 3 or sometimes 4 times but for the most part, the game was much easier than the later ones. Not that the game wasn't fun. It just didn't seem as challenging as the others. There were also a few moves/gadgets that I found myself missing at a few points during the game. The riddler trophies are really the only thing I'm having more trouble with. It's also odd with the main storyline complete that there are literally no more enemies to contend with.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 02:16 PM) Lmao Apocalypse looks like s*** This: Reminds me of this: I had to do a GIS for that second pic. Had no idea who it was.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) No idea how Crede is on a mic, but he'd be another guy. Simply based on his post-game locker room interviews, he's not a guy I could see being good at announcing. Love the guy, but I don't think it would fit him well.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) I'd have rather had a backdoor deal like this alleges than Robin and the Sox seeming like whiny people over this.
  16. If anyone should be complaining about not getting into the game it's AJ Burnett.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 08:23 PM) I want to know how many pitchers available tonight pitched on Saturday. Probably half or more. What a fricking joke. White Sox are very very disappointing organization. If Sale truly is mad there should be some articles in the Trib on this! There were 29 pitchers on the AS roster. There were 17 starters and 12 relievers. Only 16 of those 29 pitchers actually pitched in the game. Of those 16 only 5 pitched on Saturday or Sunday. Of those 5, only one of them is a starting pitcher: Dallas Keuchel. Had Sale pitched he would’ve been the only other starting pitcher going on 2 days rest. Of the 13 pitchers that DNP 7 of them pitched on Saturday or Sunday. 4 of them were starters: Sale, Burnett, Gray and Scherzer. The last two took themselves out because they pitched on Sunday. So to wrap it all up, there were 5 starting pitchers on the AS rosters that pitched Saturday or Sunday. Only one made an appearance in the game. Holding Sale out was not unprecedented. So please stop throwing a tantrum about it.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) You're usually working on your swing mechanics, getting loose, etc. When the pitches are coming in at game speed, it's too difficult to be thinking about the minutiae of what you are doing while also managing to make contact. I'd also mention that the BP pitches usually are thrown from a lot closer than game pitches. So while it isn't a direct translation to MLB speeds, it is a bit more difficult than hitting a ~70mph (that's a normal BP speed) pitch from 60 feet. But the main thing is just that it isn't meant to help players work on pitch recognition or anything like that. Of course there is also the practical concern that you would need several pro-level pitchers to hang around and throw every day yet also not be good enough to need to be throwing in the pros and also not have their arms fall off from the effort. Also, if they want to see "real" speeds, they just use a pitching machine, which is probably available to them in the clubhouse area somewhere.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:35 AM) But then you have to deal with car salesmen every 3 years. No thanks. I'm lucky enough to have a close family friend as a car salesman. I bought my current car from him and had three other family members/friends buy a car from him in the last couple years. It makes the whole process smoother and more comfortable for everyone. What's even better is that he is part of an auto group in town that can get pretty much any make/model, new or used that we want.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 07:04 PM) The one chick in Spy is pretty hot. She's 35 and hot. She was in Bridesmaids. Incredible body. Rose Byrne She's been in quite a few movies. Check her out in X-Men: First Class.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 07:26 AM) Supposed to be great weather Nope. Accuweather
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Jeff Sullivan ‏@based_ball 20h20 hours ago White Sox position players in July have been worth 0.0 WAR, which is the group's best month of the season I saw that earlier today. It made me literally LOL.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:58 AM) I am 41 years old, and have never traded in a car. Every vehicle I have had was either totaled, or ran into a repair that it wasn't worth to repair (thrown rod, blown head gasket, etc). Currently I am running a 2004 Impala the wife and I drove off of the lot with 6.8 miles on it in Jan 2004 and a 2007 Honda CRV that we got used with 20k miles on it in 2010. We might soon break that streak as the wife wants something bigger. I think mostly, with the cost of cars/trucks, there is just other stuff I would rather spend my money on. Sure newer would be nice, but I have never had some overwhelming need for it. I was about to say the same with me but then I remembered that I did my first trade-in a couple of years ago. I almost walked out and eventually had to talk directly to the guy at the “desk” because we were stuck only $500 apart. I eventually got what I wanted for it and it was sight unseen so I guess I can’t complain too much. But every other car I’ve owned has either been totaled or privately sold. I’ve got two more years to pay on my current car and then it we’ll probably either trade it or pass it down to my daughter.
  24. It’s kinda like a parent sending their kid off into the world to find a good paying career rather than staying home and helping run the family’s small business. JR basically said, We’d love to keep you around but you should jump on this chance to go and make a lot of money.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) How is that any different in Oakland, Citi Field or Anaheim (who are bleeding thousands of fans this year despite a playoff appearance last year and the presence of Mike Trout, the best young player in the game, along with Harper)? Where are these fans who show up season after season and support consistently losing teams, other than the Cubs (and they had big drop offs too over the last 2-3 seasons)? Please don't try to argue the Giants in the seasons between their World Series appearances....or HUGE market teams with historical parks like the Red Sox, who've still enjoyed 3 World Series titles basically in the last decade. Which team that has enjoyed LESS success on the field than the White Sox in the past decade (starting in 2006) has much better fan support/more loyal fans? The Cubs had one more playoff appearance but a worse regular season winning percentage over that time frame. It’s a shame the Sox are always compared to them because they are the biggest attendance anomaly in all of sports. There is no other fan base I know of that shows up more for the experience of being at/near the game than the actual play of the team. For years they could have put a little league team on the field and it wouldn’t have made a difference because most of the people there didn’t know or care who was playing.
