QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) I can't wait until we see the story about the cop that gets told "yeah I live here" and let's the place get robbed blind. I read somewhere that it has happened where a criminal jumped in the shower as the police showed up and claimed that he lived at the house he was in the process of robbing.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) Does anyone actually wear a watch to tell time now a days? My mom and my wife’s parents do. Mom keeps her cell phone in her purse and the in-laws don’t have cells phones.

My daughter is starting a job working at Little Caesar’s near our house. She goes to orientation on Saturday morning but she also has to complete some sort of food certification course online. They said it is a new law in Illinois that went into affect in July of this year. Cost is $15 but they are giving her some sort of voucher or something that makes it $10. I had never heard of this before but I researched it and apparently it’s legit. http://www.illinoisrestaurants.org/?page=F...afetyChangesHdl

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) Any of you guys wear tie clips? If so is it worth shelling out decent money for one? Recommendations would be appreciated as well. I got a fairly cheap one from Kohl’s. It does it’s job which for me is just keeping my tie straight. I get a little OCD when my tie is crooked. I don’t see the point in spending a ton of money on one but I have the same opinion about watches. Some people wear them (ties clips and watches both) for fashion over function.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 07:18 PM) wsi, wow what a name from the past. the first mass exodus happen the night I registered here. look at the date is signed under my name and you can see the date. wsi had a great mod/admin from cali. I think his name was FarWestSide. a poster who was a construction something became a mod and he started a lot of crap. I took offense and came to a poster defense. it was a natsy fight, something like 2-3 hrs. Jason came on and told us about this site and I first signed up and then many others came over. FWS accuse me of trying to ruin his site. it was the construction guy, who through FWS bought ($$) into the site. I am sure there are still some who were on that site with me. that site was ruined. Hey TEX were you here when we had that huge arguement / fight with the espn white sox forum. If I remembered they had to shut it down to banned us? man I miss Yansy. You’re talking about FarWestChicago. AFAIK, he got married and moved to Canada. Him and his wife basically own/run the site from their own servers although I don’t know that either of them actually post anymore. The other guy you are talking about is Daver. He’s FWC’s right-hand man and he was/is a plumber. He’s never been wrong about a single subject either. Just ask him.

You can’t see their off-topic forums without logging in which is probably where the majority of the activity is now. Also their political forum is a completely separate board with separate registration. The place used to be fun but the mods got way too over-zealous in banning people for even minor infractions. The worst thing that ever happened to that place was that they started getting recognition from the local media and the team itself. So anything rated above PG is no longer allowed. I haven’t been back since I got banned for something I posted on a completely different message board.

I never thought I’d see the day were Stewie Griffin said “eat my shorts” and Bart Simpson said “What the deuce?”.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Slightly related, f*** anyone that says bulls*** like "if your kids are out of control you're a bad parent." That's 100% bulls*** with little kids. Maybe a 16 year old you can say there's a failure in parenting, but not a kid under say like 6-7. Kids are wired from the day they're born to have certain traits. One of those is being incredibly strong willed and independent. I have a 2 year old son who is going through the terrible twos. He tests us every chance he gets. He purposefully does things to get a rise out of us. He's the complete opposite of my wife and I (as adults anyway). We just spent 3 days at Disney and for the most part he was great, but he had a couple meltdowns where he tried to run away and wouldn't listen or he just broke down and threw a tantrum. I guarantee you there were people thinking "oh what an out of control kid, clearly the parents fault." No, f*** that. We've done everything nearly by the book (which is bulls*** in and of itself given that every child is different and every parenting of a child should be different) and we're stuck with a strong willed 2 year old. That doesn’t sound like and out of control kid. That sound like a kid throwing a fit. It happens. At least you are making an effort to do something about it. I know a few parents that make no effort at all. Those are the ones with the out of control kids.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) While today''s generation of children may be better off as a result of escaping corporal punishment more than their predecessors, they also in many cases lack respect for their parents, their teachers, and their elders, and show a frightening lack of discipline and work ethic. They are overweight, have short attention spans, and are obsessed with instant gratification. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) The failure of some parents to administer any kind of discipline or exert appropriate control over their children is gravy. I think you’ve gone to the opposite extreme of no discipline at all. There are ways to discipline children other than hitting them. The thing is you have to start when they are young and you have to be consistent. Being a parent is not easy.

I finally decided to look it up. I get 100MB of data a month.

After having been an US Cellular customer since I got my very first cell phone at some point in the mid 90’s, I think I need to switch service providers. I talked to customer service last night and they have a “dead zone” along I-90 somewhere between Belvidere and Huntley. I’ve been constantly either dropping calls or not receiving them at all while driving to work in the morning. I was told that it’s likely at some point on the road where my signal switches to roaming. Once I get closer to Chicago the signal seems to be ok but I am roaming. I even went into a store and they flat out told me that I should probably switch to someone else. I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the choices and what would be the best and cheapest option. I currently pay around $180/month for 5 basic phones. I have data on mine but I have no idea how much. I don’t have a smart phone but I do have (barely) internet access on it. My wife and I want to upgrade to smart phones and the kids would stay with basic phones. I checked Verizon’s website last night and it looks like I’m looking at a minimum of $200/month. Is there an easy way to compare plans, prices and coverage?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) I did read the school has a policy if you are texting or talking on phone it is confiscated and you have to pay 15 bucks to get it back. That is awesome policy. I wonder what policies are in college. If some brat is using their cellphone during your lecture, can you kick them out of class or take the phone? I would think all kids are doing in college lecture halls these days is surfing the Web and texting. What do teachers do nowadays? That would be annoying if you were trying to give a lecture and half the class is texting. I'd tell the little darlings in my class if I see you texting your grade immediately goes down a letter. The administration probably wouldn't back me up, though. I think once you get to college you are an adult and typically you are spending your own money to be there. If you want to waste it by not paying attention during the lecture, that’s your problem.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) SOA... I wanted to stop watching completely after that. I literally got choked up. I remember watching that and being in absolute shock. I figured he was a lock to be the VP of the club when they got out. I couldn’t believe it was him over Tig. The worst part is that they continuously use that scene in the “previously on Sons of Anarchy” for the rest of the season.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Holy shift! The shift “worked” in the sense that the batter hit right into it. But the fielder threw the ball home and it was a little off course so they got the out at the plate but couldn’t get the runner at first. A conventional 4-6-3 DP would’ve gotten them out of the inning. The next batter drove in the winning run.
-
Sure that makes sense but it can also depend on how long you have left to pay on the loans as well. If I have a higher interest loan that won't be paid off for another 4 years and a lower interest loan that will be payed off within a year, I'm going to pay off the lower interest one first. Then I can take the money I was using for that loan and add it on the higher interest one until it's gone. Then if there's a month where I need that extra money for something else, it's there. I paid off a car loan in less than a year simply because I was sick of the bank screwing up my payments. Now I have "extra" money to pay for other things.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 12:07 PM) There's not really a good financial incentive to paying the loan off early if they're lending you the money for free. It’s nice to have one less payment to worry about every month.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 07:45 AM) That's just an awful article. The author completely ignores that every major attendance spike of the past 30 years coincided with a Cubs playoff appearance. Attendance reached an all-time high in 2008 because the team had the best record in the entire National League. Do people attend Cubs games just for the Wrigley experience? Of course. But that ballpark won't fill if the team completely sucks for years on end. Yea, it only looks bad because they are comparing it to the years when they were consistently over 3 million every year no matter what. Sure it’s down a little now but they were drawing over 2.5 million in the early 2000’s as well when they were losing 90+ games a year. Another couple years of missing the playoffs and they’ll be under 2 million.
-
I figured if that were the case I would've gotten a regret letter by now. But to be completely ignored after everything they've said/done is just really odd. I also thought that once my references were contacted that it was almost a sure thing.
-
So after 3 weeks of consistent communication (both face-to-face and via email) with multiple people and with everything going as absolutely perfect as possible, “I’ll be in touch next week” has now turned into 2 weeks of complete and absolute radio silence. I’m not really sure how to proceed or if I should even do anything at all. I'm debating whether it would be proper to send an email asking for an update or not.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) New heater core + new tie rod end. Ouch. I’m going to stand by my statement that going to the dealership for repairs should be a last resort. I blew an engine a couple of years ago and had the entire thing replaced for about that much. Whatever money you saved on buying the new car will go back to them via the service department.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:54 AM) I didn't realize this many people still washed dishes by hand. I'd hate life with out my dishwasher. My kitchen is too small for a dishwasher. I actually know quite a few people that don't have one.
-
I would actually suggest finding a decent mechanic and stop taking your car to the dealership for repairs. There's a reason dealerships make the majority of their profit from service and repairs. I don't know what repair you are getting for $1500 but I'm guessing it would be a whole lot cheaper somewhere else.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Great post. I am not outraged, but I have watched college softball and volleyball and damn those girls (women) can play ball. Those softball infielders have quick reflexes and great arms. They can scoop anything. And volleyball? They'd beat the hell out of any fraternity team that might want to play 'em. I thought of the women studs I've seen compete at Kansas when Hawk said that. But I repeat, I am not outraged at all and generally I hate walking on eggshells PC outrage. But I agree with the above post a lot. IMHO, if you were to put a women's team in almost any sport up against an equivalent men's team (i.e. women's college basketball vs men's college basketball or women's fast-pitch softball vs men's fast-pitch softball), the guys are going to win more than 90% of the time. That’s not to take anything away from female athletes. It’s just simple fact that males are typically bigger, faster and stronger.
