QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) This season of Whose Line is it Anyway has been the absolute funniest thing since way back to the English version with Clive Anderson hosting. None of the seasons done in the US has ever come close to this season. Really? I like the shows with Drew Carey better. They’ve been a little more risqué than they were with Drew, but I don’t really like having the special guests for every. single. episode. Before it was sort of a treat to have a special guest star. Like when they had Robin Williams or Richard Simmons. I also enjoyed watching them burn Drew all the time. Especially when they did a ho-down at the end of the show with him. They don’t pick on Aisha nearly as much. She’s basically there to announce what game they are playing and that’s it. They don\t even do the games where they need audience suggestions or participation anymore. It’s the same games every show. Let’s make a date, scenes from a hat, props, song with special guest star, helping hands, end show.

We don't have room for a dishwasher in my house, so my kids take turns doing them. They fill the sink with hot, soapy water and wash them with a sponge or a brush. Leaving the water running and using soap on each individual dish would be incredibly wasteful. My wife insists there's an order to doing them as well. Utensils first, then cups, then plates and bowls, then pots and pans. She says anything that touches your mouth should be done when the water is hottest/soapiest.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) So how'd Chicago do last weekend? 30 or more murders? Or are things getting better? I think if any city got 30 or more murders over a single weekend it would be national news.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Chicago is a war zone. This is very very very unacceptable and sad. 47 people shot over the weekend? God help us all. What a world we live in. http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/21/justice/chic....html?hpt=hp_t2 I know this will destroy your view of the world but you should read this article. http://reason.com/archives/2014/07/21/the-...nce-in-chicago/

It’s been shown before that eye witnesses can be pretty damn unreliable. You can have 5 different people witness the same accident and hear 5 different stories about what happened.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) So this entire time the difference between Buehrle and your average #4/5 soft tossing lefty has been defense. Wow. It’s a little deeper than that. They specifically mention HIS defense and fielding ability, not just the guys playing behind him. Not to mention his ability to completely shut the opponent’s running game down.

If you hate what you do every day, no amount of money will ever make up for it. If you have the means to make a change, then do it. It only gets harder the longer you wait.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:02 PM) Good to hear. When I watch those "jail" shows on TV, sometimes it doesn't seem too bad in there. When they interview the actual prisoners in shows like Lockup, they don’t exactly paint a rosy picture of being there. They make due with what they have to get by but I’ve never heard a single one say they actually like it there or want to be there. There’s a reason the criminals typically do everything they can to not get caught so they don’t have to go there.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) The guy who killed my friend and three other women is in El Dorado jail. He's tried to escape repeatedly; he's been convicted of having drugs in jail. I was reading he's quite the popular prisoner, kind of a kingpin. I don't really understand how this can happen in prison. They need to treat scumbags like this guy like the pieces of s*** they are, but instead they get drugs in prison, they try to escape repeatedly, yet they are fat and happy lounging in prison instead of doing hard time. This bastard should have fried long ago. I’ve never been there but from what I’ve heard about it, I’ll take my worst day as a free man over the best day as an inmate.

Unless it’s burnt beyond recognition, I think it’s difficult to make a bad pizza. I’m not too picky. I’ll eat Little Caesers, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut or Domino’s with no problem. Hell I even like the little red box pizzas (Totinos?) that you can usually find on sale for a little over a buck a pizza. There are a couple of local places in the Rockford area that are good too. We went to Put-In-Bay, OH one time a few years ago and had some amazing pizza. Haven’t been back since.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) I know of someone even worse than this. He makes about 98,000$ a year, and has a kid with the girl he lives with. They're not married because she's on welfare. So, on top of his 98k a year, they receive full welfare benefits for her and the child, which basically equates to free food for them (among other free services). If he was to marry her, she'd lose those benefits. And there are a LOT of people that do this...by the way. My wife and I have joked about that before. We had kids before we got married and got a some big tax returns for a couple of years because neither one of us was making much money. Then we got married and now I make about 3 times what she does. So if we got divorced and she claimed the kids, we’d get a big tax return and she could get all sorts of assistance. But we’ve never done it because we have morals.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) I knew people making 50-60K who lost there jobs at had zero motivation. In fact, the vast majority that lost their job in the recession, could have easily found other jobs, but opted out of it to sit around. Those were people with degrees who were qualified. They were "looking" if you mean, waiting around for a check hoping for a dream job to show up. Turned down other jobs which were comparable to what they had because it wasn't what they really really wanted and the cost/benefit of taking a job in their current spot vs. the government incentive wasn't that bad. I'd roughly say there were 20+ people I knew that did this at one point in time or another (some being good friends vs. just acquaintances / people within my work network). It sounds like those were at least temporary situations. A couple of the people I know have literally made it a lifestyle. One hasn’t had a job in the 10 plus years I’ve known him and another has never worked a day in her entire life.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:39 AM) I think the biggest misconception is people think everyone is looking for hand outs. People maybe looking for help, and rightfully so, and have even gotten said help with stuff he is done. I don't know anyone personally that says they are looking for "hand outs" and I think it's a generalization put out by certain people. I know a few people. They won’t come right out and say it in so many words, but they sure don’t have any motivation to stop receiving that check from the government and actually go out and look for a job to support themselves. They are perfectly content letting other people support them.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 07:42 AM) Eh, I'd buy it if history didn't tell me otherwise. Even years when they have met the winning criteria, the other complaints problems pop up, such as weather, school, cost, location, transportation, who they don't like, white flag, seat color, seat location, angle of the upper deck, parking cost, the cost of beer, the cost of food, too far away from the park. The winning criteria (i.e. make the playoffs 2 years in a row or win the WS) has only been met once in our lifetimes. And guess what? The attendance went up. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 10:13 AM) Saying "win for five years" is nearly impossible to actually accomplish. So few teams can actually pull it off, even less if you have limited resources and most importantly of all, a fanbase that will support a team when it is bad, so that resources are there when it is good. Who's asking for 5 in a row? We’d settle for 2 post-season appearances in a row. 3 in 4 years would be even better. Something 3 other teams in the AL central alone have already managed since the division was created. I’m sure plenty of other teams have done it as well.
-
There’s a world of difference between being in contention compared to winning the division 2 or 3 years in a row or at least 3 out of 4. Something the Tigers, Twins and Indians have all managed at one time or another. Picking out years where they had a better year than the previous one or one year where they managed to barely squeak into the playoffs isn’t a fair comparison.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2014 -> 09:13 AM) When the Sox had Maggs, CLee, Big Hurt...their attendance wasn't even average. According to Caulfield's post, they weren't even average when they won the division in 2000 or when they won the WS in 2005. Wasn't there a 10-15 year stretch where the White Sox won more games than just about everyone except for 3 or 4 teams? Yea, the Sox are really good at finishing in 2nd place. They’ve managed it 9 times in the 19 years the AL central has existed.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 10:14 AM) I think the mentality will eventually change. But it is going to take a lot of winning, for a decent period of time. This. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) That's because the Hawks are good now. When the Hawks were bad, those people were not there (in fact, few people were). If the Sox are good, those people appear at USCF. That's just how it goes. and this... QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 08:55 AM) Yup, and that's been my point throughout this thread. If the Sox went on a run like the San Francisco Giants, people would feel privileged to buy those "expensive" tickets. But instead they have one playoff appearance in 8 years and no one wants to go. Families aren't being out priced, they just aren't excited enough about the product on the field to spend the money. and also this. Get in the playoffs and win a few games and suddenly all the excuses fall away.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) As far as the Christian thing, cmon Quin. You know Christians have been silenced effectively. Yes by the mass media mainly but tons of believers can't even say they go to church on Sunday without getting looks of disbelief or getting mocked. I know. People around here think I'm an idiot for going to church every week. I know this won’t make a difference but I’ll post it anyway. Depending on which source you read, something like 70-80% of Americans identify as Christian.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 05:41 AM) Greg, It's not the worst summer for deaths. It's like it has been said in in other threads: these just aren't happening in the inner-city. They're happening in places where affluent white people live, so more coverage and with it comes the illusion of more violence. Greg has never been one to let facts influence his opinion.

Neither one of those options is even close to realistic.

Is Kansas a Laughingstock or Do You Not Care?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 30, 2014 -> 02:47 PM) IIRC he said something along the lines of "blood is on your hands, I hope its your children next time." Not professional or level-headed, but not exactly just wishing random violence or retaliation against their children. That’s pretty much what Greg said. I’m reading that as the dude hopes that the next time there is a shooting, that the children of NRA members are the ones that die. Sick. edit: The tweet was "The blood is on the hands of the #NRA. Next time, let it be YOUR sons and daughters. Shame on you. May God damn you." -

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 29, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) They're mad because the policy is vague. It all stems from the professor at KU tweeting that he wished violence on children of NRA members following the death of 13 people in DC at the Navy Yard. He was put on leave and eventually forced out. Yea, that's pretty sick. -
So I just found out today that they are finally bringing The Wonder Years out on a DVD box set sometime later this year. It’s also supposed to have most of the original music which has always been the major sticking point. I’ve been waiting for this for years.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 29, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Expansion is not a defined term it appears, as the article mentions, probably leans towards the Cubs, but not a slam dunk. True, but they've been careful to always use that word when talking about the changes they want. Even in the approval they got from the city last year it uses the word expansion.

Full contract has been released. Lawyers disect portions of it. This seems to be the key to the whole thing: The Cubs seem to have a pretty solid case here.
