  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) What's the distinction there? I could be confusing it with the Arizona law that was just vetoed but it’s not about allowing businesses to discriminate against gays. They can already do that. It’s about freedom for business owners to discriminate without fear of lawsuits.
  2. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the point of the law not to allow business owners to discriminate against gays but to protect them from being sued for discriminating against gays?
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) They're worried about a court deciding that sexuality is a protected class, which has happened in a couple other states. I’m surprised this hasn’t happened at the federal level yet.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 26, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) I'm curious, what if you owned a business and a customer came in with a handgun strapped to their body? Would you be ok serving them despite your fear/dislike of guns? Being a gun owner is a choice. It's not comparible.
  5. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) I keep seeing the bucket list comment. Please, if you love the White Sox and baseball to be an active message board poster, get yourself to spring training. If not now or next year, when? It's been (I hear) the worst winter in 30+ years. Take some time off, book a flight to AZ, and come check out baseball paradise on earth. With the temps and weather we've been having (90+ this weekend), it's looking like the warmest nicest spring training in recent memory. Get out of the artic cold, come out for some warm weather and baseball. It'll be worth it. Wanne and I have laid out a map of what to do and not to do to help you plan it and with all the advice you've got from other Sox fans who have done it in the past in this thread alone, you can make it happen. Stay warm. It’s on my bucket list too. When I can find a job that gives me PTO, I’ll have better chance.
  6. I thought I had read about this months ago. Can’t remember where though.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) There is a reason Indiana is called the "crossroads of america" its only designed for you to drive through, nobody in their right mind stays. They have some amazing food in Shipshewana.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 11:24 PM) Our state leaders just passed a law saying businesses can turn down gays for service (restaurants, movie theatres, gas stations, wherever) because of religious objections. If you are a business owner and object to gays for religious reasons you can refuse to serve them. Is this godawful state the only one with such a law? Finally, this state's governor turned down all that free money from the government regarding medicare for some reason that angers me to no end. My question to you is: Is Kansas the worst state in the union? Is Kansas a joke? What do you think of my first paragraph? First of all it’s only passed the House. The Senate has yet to vote so it’s not a law yet. Secondly, the way it’s worded seems way too broad to me because it includes state employees. DMV, police, fire, hospitals can all refuse service because the person is gay? Link
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 03:35 PM) Tip of the day: Don't build a museum for expensive cars in an area with lots of caves. I went to that museum 5 or 6 years ago and remember standing in that room. I think I have pictures of it somewhere. We did visit a few caves while we were down there as well.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) I run Avast! on both of my home computers. I've had it for years without any problems. I ran Avast for years with no problems but a couple of months ago my computer suddenly started rebooting itself randomly for no reason at all. My wife mentioned that it had started happening right after a recent Avast update. I uninstalled it and haven’t had any problems since. I’ve been wary of it since then.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) And you are just making stuff up now anyway. Jeff Samardzija got a $2.5 million signing bonus, as a part of a 5 year $10 million contract when he signed, plus team options that put the contract out as much as $16.5 million, or damned close to what the Sox paid for ALL of their draft picks from 2007 to 2011. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2736354 Great job making stuff up though. I'd walk away now too, if I got busted lying like that. Wasn't he drafted by the Cubs in 2006?
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) In three months when I'm sweltering in 100+ temps people sill post the balmy 70s and 80s. It all evens out. Relative cold is still cold. It depends on what you are trying to do. I tried to change the bulb in my headlight last night and just about froze my hands off. If it was 40 and drizzly or 90+ in the shade I would have been perfectly happy.
  13. DA and SS2K, I think you two are arguing past each other. I think both of your points are true. It’s not an either/or situation.

    2014 TV thread

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 9, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Big Bang is the same joke over....and over....and over...and over....and over...and over....and over...and over....and over...and over again. The worst show on tv. What joke is that? I haven’t kept up with the newer episodes but I catch the reruns on TBS all the time and have really enjoyed it the past few years. I’ve only caught them sporadically but the shows Men At Work and Ground Floor seem pretty funny as well.
  15. I’m curious what the wording in the contract looks like and if there’s actually something in there that says the Cubs *can’t* block their view. If it just says they have to give the Cubs some percentage of their income and their income drops to 0 because of the signs, should the Cubs really care?

    Wedding Bands

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) I have a white gold band and wear it 24/7/365. I only take it off to mess with it and itch my finger. I take mine off twice a year to get it cleaned/inspected at the store.

    2014 TV thread

My only complaint with DirectTV was the fact that they couldn’t put the dish on the roof where I wanted it. I have a perfect spot for it on the back of my house where it wouldn’t put holes in the new roof I just paid to have put on last year. The installer said they couldn’t put it anywhere that he’d have to get off his ladder due to the weather. Then he said if we wanted it mounted on a pole in the grass it would be an extra $75 on the spot by either cash or check. So we ended up having to put it on our back deck. I specifically asked about this when I called them and those issues were never brought up.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Alright, f*** it. With this impending snow storm, i'm buying a snow blower. Anyone have any recommendations? I have a pretty typical suburban 2 car wide driveway, probably 30-35 ft long and some walkways to the front door and back door. The only wrinkle is that my driveway is angled, so where it meets the road it always gets 2-4 feet deep because of the trucks plowing the street. What would people recommend? A manual single stage or a larger self-propelled double stage blower? I'd prefer not to have to create an oil/gas mix since my lawn mower doesn't require it. I've heard most single stage models require the mix. I’ve gone through a couple of small single stage blowers that required the mixed gas and they always seemed to be more of a PITA to deal with than what they were worth. I only have a shovel right now but my next blower is going to be a 2-stage.

    2014 TV thread

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:17 PM) My fn Comcast bill went up $20 this month for no reason. We had basic cable through Comcast and it seemed like they were raising their prices every other month. It was over $80. So we finally decided to switch to DirectTV. $61 for the first 3 months + free HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, etc… After 3 months we’ll cancel the movie channels and it will go up $10. Plus we have an offer for a $200 rebate. I’m just excited that we finally have a DVR.
  20. It depends on your definition of a troll. If you mean someone that just comes into threads to say something stupid, insult others and generally add nothing to the conversation, then no message board needs them. If you mean someone that will play devil’s advocate or disagree on certain points while also having a valid, reasoned opinion that may go against the majority, then that’s fine. It promotes discussion. If everyone always agreed on everything, it would be pretty boring.
  21. I can still get OTA channels in my trailer when we are camping. I only get 4 or 5 channels though.
  22. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 08:06 AM) Pretty much every part of the country has to deal with some sort of extreme weather at some time throughout the year. What's unique about the Midwest is that we often deal with high heat and humidty; snow, ice, and frigid temps; and violent thunderstorms and tornadoes every year. Think about this: If around July 6 it gets to be in the upper 90s (which is entirely possible), that would be about a 115 degree temperature swing in 6 months. That sort of temperature span doesn't happen throughout the country. I've lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Alaska, Connecticut, Maryland, and Illinois, and the weather here is by far the most diverse. Don’t like our weather? Just wait a few minutes. It’ll change.
  23. I’d rather cut my yard with a pair of dull scissors than shovel or snowblow any amount of snow.
  24. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) The thing is I trust myself and the people around me to know when they've hit that point. You have much more faith in your fellow man than I (and many others) do. I just think that the more people we can get off the road before they kill someone rather than after, the better we are. If we happen to catch a couple of people that “only had a couple of beers” and still decided to drive fully knowing the possible consequences, that's just a risk we have to live with.
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) It's not as dangerous as people make it out to be. This teenage girl that weighs like 110 lbs was legally drunk and high on scripts managed to drag race a Lamborghini without incident. There's maybe 50 people in this country that are actually f***ed up at .10; much less .08. It's all about control and the pockets of criminal defense lawyers who would be on SNAP if those laws went away. I think you’re actually arguing two separate things here. If you are saying that .08 is too low of a limit to be considered drunk, that’s one thing. But I think most people are taking your comments as saying that it’s ok to go get blackout drunk, drive home and as long as you don’t hurt anyone, there should be no problem. Unless that’s actually what you are saying…
