  1. It's one of the many required shots before they can start school. Or you have to prove that they actually had chicken pox at some point.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 08:26 AM) Someone explain what the f*** this means? Their TV screens keep getting smaller as their parents’ screens grow ever larger. Is it a reference to a tablet? To their phones? That's just brutal. I think it means they watch TV shows on their phones or tablets instead of an actual TV while the parents grew up watching TV on a 13" screen and now have a 72" screen hanging on their wall. I agree that it is poorly worded though.
  3. Number 7 confused me for a second. Then I remembered about the shot. Of my 3 kids, only one was required to get it. The older two (born in 96 and 97) never had to get it. They got chicken pox the old fashioned way. Number 11 doesn't seem right either. Shouldn't it be 3?
  4. This was briefly talked about in another thread on here when it was discussed why MLB hitters can't hit a pitch from Jenny Finch. They literally don't have the years of "data" to know where her pitches are going to end up when she throws them.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 25, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) When it's the Cubs, I feel pretty confident that they'll f*** it up in the long run This. The last first-rounder they had that really made a major impact for them at the big league level was Mark Prior. And he basically fell into their laps.
  6. Intriguing question. My first thoughts when I read the headline was "no" but I wouldn't be apposed to some sort of scholarship. My daughter gets scholarship money from bowling tournaments all the time and she’s only 12 and has never been on TV.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) They replaced her character about halfway through. Eh, for a whopping 6 episodes in a single season. After that they just wrote her out of the show completely.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 06:05 PM) They really use the term "star" loosely. I mean she was what, the 10th most important character on that show? Some episodes she didn't even appear in. IIRC, she wasn't even in the series finale. I think Red even made mention of it. Something like "Has anyone seen Laurie lately?"
  9. Link Bottom of the final inning in a tie game with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The pitcher was trying to intentionally walk the batter, but with a 3-0 count he unleashed a wild pitch. Runner comes home to score the winning run. There's some argument in the comments about whether this should be a "walk-off" intentional walk or a "walk-off" wild pitch. I'm curious how the scoring works for this play. Does the pitcher still get charged with a walk?
  10. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) Miata, S2000, BRZ/FR-S (Flat-4, but close enough), C-Class, Z3, 924/944 (RIP)... s*** the new Mustang is going to have a 4 cylinder option again. There's a lot of them. I don’t think any of those would work for somebody looking to fit a carseat in the back. Also RWD sucks in the winter.
  11. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) a RWD car with a peppy straight 4 That’s not a combination I see very often. In my experience, most 4-cylinder cars are FWD.
  12. We broke 30K for Jake Peavy's last start. So the original post that basically said "look Sox fans will show up to boo a cheater but not to cheer for their own team" is just ignorant IMO.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Slight? That is a 20% difference. It's still only a few extra thousand and you can't say for sure that they were all there because they wanted to boo Arod. They are still below last year's average attendance overall. I'm just saying that I think a legitimately contending team is still a bigger draw than the chance to boo a cheater.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Sox said they sold over 4k tickets on GAME DAY for Monday's game. And they had like 29k, or something, I think (I should look up the exact number). There was a definite A-Rod bump for Monday. Tuesday's game came down to more like normal levels, I think. 27,948 on Monday and 23,826 on Tuesday. So maybe there was a slight bump, but I wonder what their average walk-up sales are on a Monday night.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 12:54 PM) I think it's funny that White Sox fans wouldn't go to the ballpark last year to watch a 1st place team but there were meatballs walking up to attend a game to boo A-Rod. Mind boggling to me. Not to mention, the Sox have Quintana and Flowers on the roster who have both tested positive. Just funny. The attendance numbers for the last 2 nights have been right in line with the rest of the season so far. I doubt Arod playing in the game had much to do with it.
  16. Helmets are a part of it as well. Guys with no helmets were much more likely to try and avoid any contact with their head when there wasn't anything to protect it. I just read an article that said the same thing about boxing gloves. Bare-knuckle boxers were much less likely to hit their opponent in the head because it hurt more. With gloves, they don't have to worry about breaking their hands on someones noggin.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) My dad is my lawyer, so if it were illegal, I hope he'd catch it. The good news is that I do like the new 2013 Civic, just kind of didn't expect HAVING to get it and not look. Is this gap insurance through the dealer or something?
  18. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) I've never heard of such a thing. I've totaled two cars in my life and both times I've just gotten a check for the value to do with as I please. Same here. In fact, that doesn't even sound legal. I know most insurance companies will also try to get you to take your car to a specific "preferred" body shop but you aren't required to go there. I didn't like the shop my insurance always recommended so I would just tell them that I'd be going to another shop that was literally half a mile down the road from the recommended one.
  19. Batter strikes out on one pitch. Better link
  20. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Wow! 250+ pages on this subject. "Other " sites don't even dent that. Good job Sox Talk! I've only got 52.
  21. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) I always hate how she thinks its so funny to pitch her hardest at celebrity softball games and have major leaguers not be able to hit it. Yet I've never seen her stand in the box against Randy Johnson. The only reason big leaguers can't hit the softball is because its different. If they had a couple days to practice, they would light her up. She's never exactly been known for her hitting. Even in softball. Most people simply don't realize how difficult it is to hit a softball coming in that fast at that short of a distance. They just see this little blond girl pitching to guys that they've seen hit baseballs 400+ feet. Pitting her against RJ they would say, "of course he's going to strike her out. Look what he did to major league hitters." It's not quite the same thing. Also based on the study I'm not sure a few days would be enough time. It might take them weeks/months and maybe even years. You have to remember that she was really good at making other professional softball players with many years of experience whiff at her pitches as well.
  22. Interesting story about why some of the best hitters in MLB can hit 95 MPH pitches from other ML pitchers but can't even get a bat on a 65 MPH softball pitched by Jennie Finch. I've always said it's the pitching motion that messes them up. I had the exact opposite problem. I played fast-pitch for 10+ years with no problem when I was a kid, but struggled like hell to hit a baseball on my HS team. Link
  23. Even the jurors have come out and said they wish they could've found him guilty but couldn't because of the way the laws are written. In a vacuum, without taking into account how he got into the situation, it's possible that he was in fear of his life at the exact instant he fired the gun. I just don't know if that's how the law should be interpreted.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Which is just f***ing sad. The dude was found not guilty. Ryan Braun never failed a drug test either.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 11:19 PM) Is the main reason the Sox reek the simple fact we can't lift and pull the ball over the fence anymore? Not to mention the fact we can't catch the ball? But isn't it true the ol' lift and pull philosophy has gotten us again? This time we simply can't hit enough home runs to beat anybody? Our victory formula offensively remains the HR ball and our power has been zapped? I think it's more the fact that they can't score runs period. Via homerun or otherwise. The only team that has scored less runs this year is the Marlins.
