  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) I think part of it is the games are during the week, and the Cubs aren't drawing as well as they used to for any team. Even the Cubs are starting to have problems drawing people to watch awful baseball. Obviously, their definition of a poor crowd is very different from others. Their last three weekday home games were against the Rockies. They drew 35,080, 38,123 & 38,083. Although they were all night games. I think having weekday DAY games with jacked up ticket prices really killed them this year.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) You don't have to play the 1st place team to be buried by the first place team. The Cardinals are 35-18. The Pirates are 34-20. The Reds are 33-21. No team in the AL Central has 30 wins. The Cubs would be in last or second-to-last in any division in MLB. I can't imagine their placement in the standings would cloud anyone's judgement of how good/bad they are.
  3. I did. This series just doesn't mean as much to either side of town as it once did. Sure it's great to have city-bragging rights for a couple of days but then we all have to go back to the reality that we are all watching a couple of 70-85 win teams.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) The baseball week starts on Monday, but you probably knew that. Baseball week?
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) well, still haven't had a lead this week. They won on Sunday.
  6. My wife and I were walking our husky one time and walked past a house with a couple of dogs that looked like pit/pit-mix. They were both chained up but as soon as they saw us they started running towards us and snapped their chains without even breaking stride. My wife told me to run but I knew that was the worst thing I could do. I just tried to get between them and our dog because he was about 12 or 13 at the time. Luckily the owners were in the yard and came over right away to corral their dogs. The dogs didn't do anything besides sniff each other but it was pretty scary for a few seconds.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Not sure if they went person to person, but they definitely went in and out of lockers, especially with drug dogs. Honestly, I have no problem when they do that as, while this is more invasive, it's also less discriminatory (meaning not discriminatory at all). When I was in Jr high I always heard people talking about it but I never actually saw them do it. In HS the lockers were all condensed into one area right next to our lunch room rather than spread through the halls of the school. So they could've easily searched the lockers there. Again, I heard about it but never saw it.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 07:10 PM) Wasn't the consecutive games (taking the lead) at the start of 2006 when the offense was just killing people (including the team that would go on to win the World Series, the Cardinals)? Hmmm, can't remember anymore. No, it was definitely 2005. Michael Clarke Duncan mentions it in the narration of the World Series DVD.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 16, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) I think impregnating at least one of the girls is abuse enough... Wrong case. They were talking about the woman that's accused of murdering her BF.
  10. Ariel Castro to plead not guilty. I understand that he has the right to a fair trail and he's innocent until proven guilty but what is the purpose here? Is he really going to try to convince people that he is innocent? Not to mention the 3 women that will have to testify against him and re-live the horrors of the last 10 years. This quote from one of his lawyers was interesting: From what I've read, this guy is really good at not letting people know what kind of person he really is. His brothers didn't know, his daughter didn't know, his neighbors didn't know...
  11. The kids like the changes even though the parents are outraged. Adults are always screwing things up for kids. This reminds me of the parents that get into fights on the sidelines of their kids sports activities while the kids have no idea what the adults are fighting over.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) I thought you write code? FAIL I write code on a crappy computer that I can't update.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) http://gizmodo.com/you-can-play-atari-brea...h-and-504867660 Doesn't work on this computer.
  14. I got a bunch of images of the old Atari game.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) This simple response is so obvious, why are their so many posts on this subject. This broad complaining about it should take on a real problem. Because the adults got involved and the outrage was born. Meanwhile Disney will make millions of dollars because little girls will want the new "princess" version of the character and they'll have no idea why their parents are making a big deal about it.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) 1) More make-up, much "prettier" face or appearance 2) Tighter outfit, noticeably smaller/tinier waistline 3) The "wholesome" Disney-esque hint of cleavage in the new version 4) Clothes are less frumpy and more fashionable....also reinforcing idea girls need to dress "sexy" instead of being judged by their brains/merit I just think there's a difference between a little girl wanting to dress up like the character from the movie and go out and shoot a bow and arrow and wanting to dress up like a princess and put on a bunch of makeup and a fancy dress. It's possible to do both. The character was becoming an official Disney princess so they dressed her up a little bit. I still don't see the size difference in the pictures.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) Illini, First we need to separate the modeling. Models are abnormal. Most actresses are not model thin. Many people dont even find that thin attractive. It just happens that clothing designers (who strangely arent the macho men that seem to scare people at night) are fascinated with thin girls that look like young boys... Im not sure I need to explain that one further. I've heard it's because the designers literally want the clothes to "hang" on them. So they want them as thin as a coat hanger.
  18. Is the size of the character really the problem here? She doesn't look any thinner to me. Her face and hair are different but that could be done to any actress by showing a before/after with her hair and makeup done.
  19. I have three girls that grew up playing with Barbies and watching the Disney princess movies and none of them have any sort of body issues. I myself grew up playing with over-muscled action figures like He-man and GI joe and never had a thought to try and imitate their body styles.
  20. When I was in HS I remember having to read: 12 Angry Men To Kill a Mockingbird Romeo and Juliet The Crucible Great Expectations Those last two I remember almost nothing about them. A few other stories I remember reading in school are: Something for Joey, Where the Red Fern Grows, Soup and Me. Some of the "classics" I've never actually read: Of Mice and Men The Great Gatsby The Scarlett Letter Lord of the Flies The Lottery Catcher in the Rye I'm currently reading Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. They are all put together in a single paperback. I'm only halfway through Frankenstein and having only a vague knowledge of the story based on movies and other pop culture, it's not what I was expecting at all.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) Along with people complaining about it. That's always my favorite. A lot of good posters have left over the years and most of the people still there have no idea how or why.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) How would that even work, anyway? I can understand if it would have been the walk-off run, but how would it have worked in this scenario? I believe they would've had to replay the game from that point on.
  23. Anyone remember Baseball Simulator for NES? There was one team that had 2 players that could bunt the ball and get to second before the fielder even got to the ball. There was also another player on that team that would hit a homerun every single time he was up. You were guaranteed at least 4 runs in the first inning. It was also really easy to just bunt when there was a runner on third because the computer would always throw the ball home. So I would just start the runner towards home and then go back to third. Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball was another fun NES game. It's the only game I've ever played that had choice between fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball. Slow-pitch meant no stealing and 4 outfielders.

  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2013 -> 01:48 AM) Fitness/nutrition/diet classes belong in KG, elementary, middle school and high school It is. Or at least it was when I was there. I'm pretty sure PE is still required all 4 years at my old HS.
