QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 04:24 PM) He was not silent. he told Bell that was a f***ing lie when Bell said he felt like nobody had his back. And he looked like him like he was crazy when Bell said that stupid thing at the end rather than stroke the closer's ego. hey this is a performance business. Ozzie told the guy he couldn't get his curve over for a strike and called him on it when he said nobody had his back. MASTERFUL IMO. I'm assuming that conversation took place sometime in April or May. It doesn't look like it helped because Heath hasn't really gotten any better. A 2-4 record with a 6.00 ERA and only converted 18 of 31 save opportunities. Yet Ozzie seems to stubbornly stick by him and "have his back". I seem to remember that being a big complaint from a lot of people here.

I like how upper management found out that Guillen reinstated Bell as his closer via the media talking about it on Twitter. Awesome communication there.

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 02:55 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2012/fv/ballot.jsp JQ isn't on there. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) I have the ultimate defense: A world series title. Case closed. I was referring to the fact that you keep insisting that Ozzie didn't quit. Him winning a WS has nothing to do with that. Why he quit also has nothing to do with it. It's just a simple fact you can't seem to acknowledge. Ozzie had a contract to manage the team through the 2012 season, but instead he decided to quit before his contract was fulfilled and go manage the Marlins instead. Nothing you say can make that statement false, so quit tying.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) I think most posters would say I've said enough on Ozzie. This "quit on the team" stuff is tiresome. Did Rios quit on the team? Did Dunn? It's easy to spout such a simplistic phrase. Do grown men and women really think Ozzie Guillen quit on the White Sox? What's tiresome is you trying to defend something that is not defensible.

I remember reading somewhere that a few of those lights have yellow lights that aren't long enough. Like they are supposed to stay on for 3 or 4 seconds and they have them set for 2.

I have to take my husky in on Saturday to be put to sleep. They found a large tumor in his abdomen and said that's it's inoperable. He won't eat anything so he would starve to death otherwise. He's 13 so he's pretty old. He's slowed down a lot in the past couple years.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Correct which is why he wont pitch, but he will be there. 1st in ERA, WHIP, 4th in wins. He's an All star. Actually, I think he meant to say pre-ASG. Which is possible.
-
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Didn't Ventura say yesterday that he'd plan their post-ASG rotation around who gets into the game? That's post-ASG though. IIRC, MLB has a rule that starters that pitched on the last day before the ASG can't pitch in the game.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Maybe Greg wrote that to himself, and didn't use his normal, inimitable, staggered line/iambic pentameter style? I've thought for a long time that Greg is just a fake account by another poster that was made to rile us up. Nobody can be that happily clueless IRL can they? Thinking the NL is better than the AL was the last straw.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 20, 2012 -> 07:37 AM) Oh, and start marketing outside the city. Put together bus trips from Rockford, Bloomington, Champaign, Lafayette, Indianapolis, and South Bend. Package includes bus trip + ticket + hot dog + coke. The Sox are an afterthought in the Rockford area. A lot of the major stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Kohls, etc have large displays of Cubs stuff with little to no Sox stuff at all. Sears is the only place I can ever find a decent selection of Sox stuff besides an actual sporting goods or sports collectibles store. I've also heard about Cubs bus trips from local radios stations. I'm pretty sure that's set up by the radio stations contacting the team, not the other way around.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 18, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) Why have you gone to so few? Perhaps we can get some insight in to the problem using you as an example. The attendance problem isn't that difficult to figure out. It has been on a steady decline since 2005. Even them squeaking into the playoffs in 2008 didn't give it a boost because they've missed the post-season every year since. Expectations going into this season weren't that great and I'm guessing the season ticket base is pretty low right now. Maybe around 10,000 or so. The only thing that's going to boost attendance is consistent and sustained winning year after year. Make the playoffs 4 times in 5 years instead of 19 and you'll see a big difference. A hot streak that lasts a couple of weeks isn't going to make a difference. I don't know why everyone expects it to.

Anyone have any experience with bark collars? We have a pug/shar-pei mix and she barks at pretty much anything that moves. When she is in the backyard she barks at the neighbors, the neighbor's dogs, people walking on the sidewalk, a leaf blowing by in the wind... When we take her camping with us she's almost as bad. We've even had our neighbors come over and meet her. They'll give her treats and she will literally wag her tail and bark at them at the same time. She's even barked at my wife and I if it's dark and she doesn't realize it's us walking towards her. I think it's partly a mix of excitement and her being very territorial and going into protect mode. She has never bitten anyone though. We've discovered that a spray bottle filled with water works ok when we are around to catch her. I know there are some collars that spray them so that's where I got the idea from. There are also the shock collars. I just want something so we can let her outside for 10 minutes or so and not have to be right there to keep her from barking at everyone and everything.

So my daughter is taking summer school in order to hopefully be able to pass on to 9th grade next year. The classes she struggled most with were social studies and science. She didn't do real well in reading and English either. Summer school is 21 half-days (8:15 - 12:15) and they only have math, reading and English. On one hand I don't want to see her fall behind and have to repeat a grade. On the other hand, I'm not sure what good going to summer school will do her if they aren't even going over the subjects she really had trouble with. In fact, math is one of the classes she actually managed to pass. 21 half-days ≈ 14 full days of school. I don't see how that can make up for a full year of classroom time but they said if she passes summer school she can move on to 9th grade.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) Another reason Ozzie's mouth wasn't bad to the average fan. He kept the Sox in the news, kept people buzzing about Ozzie. Sox are irrelevant again w/out Ozzie for now. We may all be diehards on here, and follow the Sox no matter what, but Ozzie was good keeping the Sox in the news for the average fan. He was free publicity for the White Sox/ticket sales. If you think his brashness affected the players negatively, I think you should reconsider your position. Who gives a f*** about his kids? These are grown men playing baseball. Ozzie was a GREAT sideshow as well as a WS winning manager. Many players commented in the off-season about how much of a distraction all the off-the-field Ozzie stuff started to become the last couple of years. Interesting article

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) People had given the advice before, but what's the best way to stop a dog's allergies? Specifically, when he keeps licking/chewing at his feet? Benadryl? Just as his back paw is finally healing up, he is starting to go to town on one of his front paws. When we leave for the day, not only does he get the cone of shame, but we also have to wrap the foot up because he can work around the cone if he really tries. Our vet said to use 10mg of Claritin every 12 hours. Just make sure it's not the Claritin-D.

Click is one of my favorite movies. I've probably watched it over a dozen times. I also liked Sandler's version of The Longest Yard. I've seen very little of the original.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) the weird thing is, the one class that probably helped me most in college was speech. Excellent public speaking skills have served me well. I hate that I had to take that class. I stumbled through it but I don't think it helped me all that much. Although I haven't really had to do any public speaking since then so I guess it's one of those things that you get more comfortable with the more you do it. I know at least one person that refuses to get a college degree because they are terrified of having to take speech class.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) Yeah, he's going to be sore for the first couple days. The bigger pain in the ass, IMHO at least, is keeping that damn cone on his head to keep him from licking the incision or trying to pull out the stitches. I simply could not bear to watch my dogs wear this thing around so clumsily, so I always just removed it and kept an eye on them. They also sell something called the "comfy cone" or something that is much more reasonable. As for his activity levels, just don't actively encourage him to play too strenuously and I think you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about trying to restrain him or anything unless he seems to really be pushing the envelope. They say they get dogs back in after a neuter all the time with re-opened wounds, but I've never seen it happen with the 15+ dogs my family and I have had that have been neutered. Our dog popped a stitch when we had her spayed. We had to run her back to the vet before they closed and they got mad at us like it was our fault somehow. We got a free year's worth of medical check-ups including the spaying through that particular vet when we got her. After the year was up, we have never been back. We also talked to a number of other people that didn't like it there. She was/is very active so we literally had to drug her to keep her from popping her stitches again. They gave us some pills and said to give her 1/4 of one pill every 6 hours or so and it did the trick.

QUOTE (Bighurt52235 @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 04:02 AM) For those of you who dislike Hawk, try listening to the lame ass guys the Cardinals run out there. They actually said that Orlando Hudson consulted with Jake Peavy prior to signing here since they know each other from playing together in San Diego. I guess they're allowed to make up whatever bulls*** and flat out lie if they want. I remember hearing an interview with Hudson on the Score right after they got him saying he did talk to one of the Sox players before he came here. Don't remember if it was Peavy or not but he talked to someone.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Now you have me drooling thinking about Das Essenhaus. We've been there two different times when we've been on vacation and I can never remember the name of the place. For us it's just always been "that Amish restaurant near Shipshewana." For some reason my mom pronounces it Ship-sha-wan-ee. Awesome food though.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) Since 1995, the White Sox have been in first place 4 times (now 5) and won the division three times. 70% playoff predictability rate for those teams leading at that milepost. 2000 Up 1.5 games 2004 Up 1.5 games 2005 Up 4.0 games 2008 Up 0.5 game 2012 Up 2.5 games 1984 down 5 games 2006 down 1 1/2 games I assume you mean in first place on June 5?

Interesting article comparing Cubs/Sox on attend vs. development
Iwritecode replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Cubs market an experience and have for many years. Wins and losses don't matter. It's all about the sunshine, beer, girls and partying. Their season ticket base has been high for a long time but I think it's starting to come down. The Sox on the other hand have to market the team on the field. Wins and losses matter very much.
