LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES
Iwritecode replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Ah, the Waterboy. That was Sandler's heyday. I know some people hate all of his work, but that earlier stuff was hilarious. It's sad that he's strayed so far away from that. And now I think I forgot to put Happy Gilmore on my list. I forgot all about Happy Gilmore. I remembered The Waterboy but it didn't make my final cut. -
The cup is simply twice as large as it needs to be.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) What's the parade route through Miami gonna be for each of Ozzie's two WS crowns down there?? Probably the same one the Miami Heat used.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) IIRC Cwsox, beastly, cluer, bmr were all banned; I actually talked to him about a month ago on another message board.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) If anyone was listening to the SCORE last night at 5:30, there was a guest on that went off on Theo. The call dropped from a bad cell but this was not a caller it was a national guy and he was ripping Theo to shreds. It sounded like a Sox fan. B&B were almost speechless. I heard this as well. From what I could get from it, he was saying that Theo had a ton of help as far as people around him and how much money he could spend and that he's not as smart as everyone thinks he is.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) If there were simply a zero-tolerance rule for "DWH" then there's really no reason not to do so. I've always understood that that is one of the huge obstacles preventing the legalization. The fact that there isn't really a good test that can be administered on the side of the road to check if somebody is driving under the influence like they can do with breathalyzers.

200 posts and I have yet to figure out WHY KW would need a spy in the clubhouse.

LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES

I think I included "Searching for Bobby Fischer" in my list which is a movie about Chess. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) I kind of get that but trust him with what exactly? I have yet to hear an answer for this.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) Guillen was hired by chairman Reinsdorf. Williams needed a spy. Or Guillen could have just told KW what was going on like he was supposed to.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) Now it makes sense why Coop wasn't given serious consideration for the manager's job. Kenny didn't have a spy to take his place. I'm not sure I understand this whole "spy" business. Where there things going on in the clubhouse that Ozzie didn't want KW to know or wasn't telling him? Seems like that's a pretty big problem right there.

LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES

I submitted my list. I actually surprised myself and came up with more than 25 movies. So I had to pare it down. As I looked at it I realized that over half of them were baseball movies. A lot of comedies as well. -

My list is going to be terrible. I'm just starting to realize how many classic sports movies I've never seen. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) Do you mind if I ask why you don't move? There are multiple reasons. One of the biggest is that our house would never sell in the shape it's in. We just gutted and re-did our kitchen and put a new roof on but there is a long list of other things that are falling off or falling apart and need to be fixed/replaced. Another thing is the cost of living in Rockford is really low. If we moved any closer our cost of living would increase. Plus my wife would have to find a new job because we couldn't survive on my salary alone. Then there are other things like being close to family & friends, our kids really like their schools, etc... It's something we may think about more a few years down the road after the kids graduate and the house repairs are done.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Holy s***. Yea, that's usually the reaction I get. Rockford is just not a technology-oriented city.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) After rereading this I'm not sure that I'd even say that. It might come off as "this guy might leave us for something as trivial as shaving 15 minutes off his commute". I'm 2 hours 1-way on a good day. Between 2.5 and 3 on bad days. I think it's a pretty good reason. If I could find a place that's only 1 hour away, I'd be happy.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) For sure. With each interview you get more comfortable and can refine your answers. I was never able to come up with a good way to say "I am horribly underpaid and I want more money" when they asked me why I wanted to leave my current job. I'm pretty sure I blew one interview because of it. I had actually gone through 3 people already but the last guy I talked with seemed stuck on the question. I couldn't come up with anything because I actually really liked my job. I was just horribly underpaid. Luckily I don't have to worry about that anymore. Now I can just say I want a shorter commute.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Oh, I realized that, but I thought since he put "these two people" that he didn't recognize James Earl Jones. Is that scene from Coming to America? Yes.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) LOL, I think you are missing the whole "Twice they played the characters of African Royalty" angle that Iwritecode is referring to here. That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Kind of an interesting fact IMO. I also mentioned to my kids that James Earl Jones was also Darth Vader.

My daughter just started watching our Lion King DVDs again for some reason. I'm assuming she saw the commercials on TV because they re-released it in theaters in 3D. So I was checking out IMDB and found this out for the first time today. The voice actors for the King and Queen in the Lion King were done by these two people:

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Heh, I have family that lives there. They went to.....Windsor HS? They live in either Loves Park or Machesney Park. There is a Winsor but it's an elementary school. Loves Park and Machesney Park are both part of the Harlem School district. All the kids end up at the same Jr. High and High school. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) I was at Maple and then Machesney... you had to actually "find" it on the computers, but it was good s***. You must be younger than me then. Machesney was Franklin Jr. High when I was in school. Maybe we did have it on our computers and I just never played it. I know we had games on the computers in the back of the classrooms but I didn't mess with them much. I remember the big saying back then was "r-u-n return."
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Your school did suck. Must not have gone to Harlem! Actually I did. Loves Park elementary too. I have no idea how I missed this game.

I've always been under the impression that they try to adopt out the animals as long as they aren't aggressive and/or sick. Although we rescued a cat out of a tree in our yard one day and had animal control come and pick him up. We found out later that they put him down because he had a "sinus infection". He sure as hell didn't look or act sick when we gave him to them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) This quitting on the team is bulls***. He quit, what, a day before the end of the season? More like a year before his contract ended.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) And lets be honest, Oregon Trail was a great game. My school must have sucked. I've never played this game.
