  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Not that there's anything wrong with it. Of course.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Yeah, I suppose...it's not even so much an issue of me not being confident enough, I just hate dealing with swarms of dudes all the time...ahh, the life of a single guy... Taking this sentence completely out of context without reading any of the other posts...
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Alternatively, don't have a FB profile at all. Actually, when used properly it can be a helpful job search tool.
  4. It's a relative term. He's still he youngest right? The average age for a MLB GM is probably 50 or so.
  5. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) With that in mind, would you be against a training class in firearm use being a prerequisite to gun ownership? Makes sense to me, and I don't think it would really be an inconvenience to someone that already knew the basics of firearm safety, but I'm curious about what others think. Should probably be more than just "a" class. Look how much training is required to drive a car. I bet I could potentially kill just as many people with that as I could with a gun.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) I laugh cause I hear it all year about Ozzie's decisions, but now that everybody's watching these games, I get to FINALLY hear people bag on managers not named Ozzie. Pretty much every team in MLB has a message board somewhere. Check them out sometime and you'll see that all the teams have fans that complain about their manager. I'm sure you could find lots of Twins and Red Sox fans that think their managers are the worst ever.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) The problem right now comes from the sheer number of people looking for jobs, including those that currently have jobs. In the case of those that are already employed, many accepted jobs that pay less than they're worth or were initially seeking (employers market), but took the job anyway so they'd have some sort of income. Many of those people continue looking for a better opportunity, which keeps the number of people seeking employment very high. Again, this keeps the market in favor of the employers, which is somewhat of a negative snowball effect. I think this may be part of it too. I can almost guarantee that I was turned down for some openings when I was unemployed because they knew I was going to leave the second I found a better opportunity. I was basically applying anywhere and everywhere. Even when I knew I was way over-qualified for the job.
  8. I'm still waiting to find out what happened with Joe and the girl he was texting back in July.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) A short term DL stint for a problem associated with his mechanics? Come on man. This is like Stras blowing his elbow out. Yeah, it was sad to have it happen, but you had to know it was possible. IIRC, Coop tried to get him to change his mechanics so he wouldn't get hurt later. Peavy didn't like it and went back to his old way of throwing.
  10. Unless it's just me, Sonsofsamhorn is down.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) cst_Cowley cst_Cowley @Steve9347 Until the games started, was the quote. Get it right. If you heard what I did, you would understand why. I have yet to see anyone add the words "until the games started" to Ozzie's quote.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Did you know the Air Force bought ipad2's for every pilot? All of their flight plans will now be on ipad's A cousin of mine that is a teacher in Florida says that he can see schools getting rid of books and going completely to Ipads within the next few years.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) I read somewhere that either a city or state is trying to pass legislation to make this an illegal practice. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/obama-...-191042168.html
  14. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) Someone I knew from my high school (just knew of him) died in a car accident today (well, Monday). Just weird to see that someone so young (20 yrs old) can be taken away just like that (car accident on the way to school for him). I found out easy it is for somebody to be taken away when I was in 5th grade. There was a kid that was a grade below me that got hit and killed while riding his bike to school one day. I didn't know him personally but he was a friend of a friend. It was so weird during recess that day. Basically the entire 4th grade class just walked around the playground with their heads down.
  15. Insignia is Best Buy's "store" brand. We got 2 tube TV's that are both Insignia. They both still work but they show everything with a green tint. That started happening about a year after we bought them. I don't know if their LCD TVs are better but personally I'm staying away from that brand.

    2011 TV Thread

Why the hell doesn't FX have any episodes of Sons of Anarchy on their website? I've actually been recording each episode to a DVD-RW (I don't have DVR) and when we finally had time to sit and watch the first episode the disc kept skipping. Now I have no chance at catching up at all this season.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Didn't know where to put this really, but it's finance related: http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/21/pf/cost_ra...child/index.htm Holy balls kids are expensive. We've gotten off pretty light on childcare costs as we've always had family members to watch our kids but the cost of just getting them registered for school every year seems to keep going up. That doesn't even include money for lunches, field trips, workbooks, etc... Plus now my oldest is starting to get into driver's ed, class rings, homecoming dances...
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Look, if Konerko wants him back that says a lot. No, it just says that he helped Konerko. He may not be the right hitting coach for the other hitters on the team. Didn't Frank Thomas have a personal hitting coach that he used that didn't work for anyone else?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) Glad to see it only took 30 pages, but you finally came to your senses. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) We can't get another 12-15 pages out of this topic today? QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) What makes me laugh (or cry) is that the past 12 or 15 pages were consumed by one argument. I only show 6 pages in this thread.
  20. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) im sure management was making him play dunn. they know hes done so why not just release him? because the money. not becuase ozzie I just can't imagine how that conversation could have possibly went. I mean did KW really go to Ozzie and say "I'm going to go to the media and publicly say that you need to play the best players no matter their salary but in reality I want you to continue to play Rios and Dunn even though I know they are statistically the worst 2 players in MLB right now. They cost way too much to just sit on the bench. They need to be on the field even if it costs the team wins."
  21. I swear I've booted up in safe mode before and it allowed me to complete bypass the password.
  22. We have officially become "permanent" campers rather than just week-enders at our campground. We signed our 1-year contract on Saturday and parked the trailer later that day. The contract technically doesn't start until October 15 but we can stay there from now until then and not have to pay for it. Even better since it's the end of the camping season, there are plenty of people leaving or changing sites and trying to get rid of stuff they no longer want or need. We have one couple that has offered us a deck and another that offered us a metal shed. I also might be able to make a trade for an electric lawn mower that I can just leave at the campground. In my new shed of course.
  23. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) The examples you used are specific instances. Maybe they aren't always like that and they do have some friends. AJ is just a mean, surly person. He is like that all the time he is not pleasant to anyone. He would be my vote for the meanest jerk in baseball along with Bonds and Gary Sheffield but they aren't active any longer. I've never personally met him but I would not have guessed that based on everything I've seen, heard and read about AJ. He's made a few funny commercials. He was part of the "3 stooges" along with Rowand and Crede in 2005. IIRC, they were Joe, Row & Po. I know he can get under the skin of opponents when he wants to. He's the guy where you say "Yea, he's a jerk, but he's OUR jerk."
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) If you think the new manager is going to sit Rios and Dunn, bless you. They will play every day. You're only 1 of 2 people I've heard out of 4 different message boards that thinks this.
