QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) What are the thoughts on Giolito? I know he suffered an injury, but if he were there isn't the kind of talent that is worth risking acquiring? They might not be able to afford him.
-
BA has its 2nd to last projection. Wacha is the pick but also in on Stroman and Heaney. Would jump all over Hawkins if he falls as I guessed.
-
Piliere tweets it's Stroman or Heaney for ChiSox at 13. Very different players. One very safe polished starter with less upside versus a guy with better stuff and higher ceiling but risk of being a reliever.
-
Supposedly the A's might be reaching for Pierce Johnson at 11. Could make some more desirable talent fall.
-
KG's latest projection says the Sox are in on Stroman noting they could use him in the pen in September. Hopefully they would let him start the following season in the minors. Also notes Wacha, Heaney, and Stratton in the mix again.

Happy draft day! Unfortunately I'll have to listen to the 1st round via XM during my commute home. Wish it started at 7 central time.

Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein Stetson Allie's pitching career ends at 26.2 IP, 37 BB, 10 HBP, 10 WP. Reply Retweet Favorite

I know some of us were clamoring for Stetson Allie in 2010, I might have been one of them but I don't remember. Anyhow, after not being able to find the plate whatsoever as a pitcher, he's now been converted to a position player. His only game action this year was in A ball where walked 8 batters and only recorded two outs. Interesting turn of events. http://triblive.com/sports/pirates/1909481...ngton-kovacevic

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Is the draft tomorrow? Yes.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Victor Roache is a guy I joked about the Sox taking back in spring training. He just seems exactly like what Kenny would want to take, and that scares me. If they are confident his medicals are fine, and he will sign for under the recommended slot value allowing that money to be reallocated to rounds 2 through 10, I'd be okay with it. Very much a long shot though.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) No more contact-challenged prospects! I'm not sure what I think of Hawkins at this point. He's often linked to the Rockies and Marlins though.

Frankie Piliere @FrankiePiliere Latest draft buzz I'm hearing. Royals taking a close look at Almora and Fried at #5 Reply Retweet Favorite Interesting. The Royals desperately need advanced college pitching and have been linked to it all year. Fried could move somewhat fast as a prep prospect though. Also, the Cubs would be crushed if Almora goes one spot before they pick.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Not a lot of names I like there. Courtney Hawkins is so much a Kenny Williams type player. Very toolsy, prodigious power potential, but quite raw with contact issues. I imagine Kenny salivating at the possibility he drops to 13.

Jim Callis @jimcallisBA I'm told that #Astros have no decison at 1-1 and are discussing five names. I guess Appel, Buxton, Correa, Gausman & maybe Almora. #mlbdraft Reply Retweet Favorite

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) Maybe the Sox will take Stroman because they might need him in September. He would likely do just fine too. (Out of the bullpen obviously.)
-
JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm According to source the Houston Astros are expected to select Stanford RHP Mark Appel with the first over all selection in tomorrows draft. Reply Retweet Favorite I'd much rather have Buxton or Correa.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Any chance Roache is still available at pick #48? #13 is way too high for him but getting him at #48 would be very nice. I'm honestly not sure. It all depends on his medicals I would imagine. It's possible he falls to 48, but I'd wager he goes late 1st or very early supplemental.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) At this point, I don't see us spending that much on a position that we don't really need now and actually have a few prospects in. Huh? Because the Sox have Jared Mitchell & Keenyn Walker who are not even close to sure things, they shouldn't consider a talent who would be a top 5 pick in this year's draft class? If the Sox aren't interested it's because of the prohibitive cost, not they have a few prospects. Besides Soler is at least 3 years away. He will likely begin his career in Low-A ball.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) Is this the same "Georgia kid" who was hurt in the last year that some sites had the Sox linked too? If so his stock must have really risen. No. Byron Buxton not Victor Roache. And there were never really any concrete links to Roache. Just one or two super early draft projections with no sourced information.

Sickels posted his 2012 Draft Top 100: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/6/1/30...couting-reports Correa has some late helium for sure.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) I still think Roache is going to make a team in the late first round/early supplemental pick very happy It's certainly possible. I just couldn't pull the trigger on him at 13 after an injured season.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) I agree, I'd have no problem with the Clemson 3rd baseman. I think other than Zunino, (who clearly won't be available at 13) Shaffer is the only college bat that I'd be in favor of as a 1st round pick. Pretty terrible college position player crop this season.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Piscotty from Stanford is supposed to also be a first round pick. I'd much rather have Shaffer than Piscotty. Not big on Piscotty at all.
