QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) I keep going back to what the pitchers in the Sox rotation look like. They are all tall. Indeed they are. I don't expect them to take Stroman, just offering my opinion on him.

Baseball America has the Sox on Wacha with their 3rd mock draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/...v3-0-list-only/

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=17223 I still love Stroman. Some of the best stuff in the draft class. Already has two plus pitches. If he wasn't 5' 9'' he'd be in the mix for number 1 pick in the draft. There is obviously some risk that he ends up in the pen, but he has much better upside as a starter than some of the 2nd tier of college pitching that should be available around 13. Though I perfectly understand if the Sox want a safer option considering the state of the farm.

Erik Johnson seems to be in Kanny.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 30, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Keith Law Updated 2.0 Draft Having the Sox take Smoral. Like the upside on this pick-Big Lefty Want. Keeping my fingers crossed. He probably would be going much higher if it weren't for the foot injury. Could end up being a steal wherever he goes.

Baseball America's Top 500 Draft Propects

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 28, 2012 -> 06:52 AM) Any Erik Johnson news update? Haven't really heard anything on our wonderful 2nd round draft pick that was supposed to move through our system quickly. Shoulder issues right? Elbow I believe. Tommy John might be in his future (though probably not immediately) from what I've heard.

Wait for regression and trade off some pieces if the offers are there.

Jim Callis @jimcallisBA Could still go either way. Hearing both. @professorfog: #WhiteSox moved on to college pitching vs the prep players at this point? #mlbdraft Reply Retweet Favorite

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 26, 2012 -> 07:01 AM) The only player I keep on hearing that the Sox are possibly going to take that I don't want them to draft is Michael Wacha. He has the smallest upside of all the pitchers they are rumored to be drafting: I perfer Straton, Stroman, Smora in that order. I'm not sold on Wacha either. I'd be fine with any of Heaney, Stratton, Smoral, or Stroman though.

Baseball America's Mock Draft 2.0

Mayo's 2nd mock: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...ticle_32149024 Sox interested in Stratton, Heaney, & Wacha as I previously guessed. I'm more in favor of Heaney and Stratton than Wacha though.

Thread is great. Hawk is f***ing awful. He makes my ears bleed. I will throw a party the day he's finally gone.

Chatting with a Scout about the 2012 Draft: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/5/18/3...-baseball-draft Interesting stuff. Particuarly on Stratton, Heaney, and Wacha who very easily could be White Sox draft picks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) I do still like what Rangel Ravelo is doing with the bat at age 20. No power to speak of yet though. I think I may go see if I can hit up that Scouting the Sally guy, see if there are any reports about his D. From what I've heard, his future is likely at 1B.

Speaking of Odorizzi and Wil Myers recently, they were both promoted to AAA today.

From the BA draft chat going on right now. Would post the link but I'm at work as evidenced by my question.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 16, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) Chicago White SoxRichie Shaffer, 3B, Clemson Shaffer has the most raw power of any college hitter in this class and has a very good chance of being a solid big league regular, but probably not a star. It'll be interesting to see if ownership allows the scouting department to spend up to the new, higher slot numbers, since they almost never exceeded the old figures. I've also heard them tied to Ohio prep lefty Matt Smoral. That's the second report we've heard on interest in Smoral. I like it. I'm not that high on Shaffer though.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 14, 2012 -> 10:37 PM) What is the story on Odorizzi? Also, the Royals organization knows very much they need pitching, particularly of the advanced variety. They coveted all of Cole, Hultzen, Bauer, and Bundy in the 2011 draft but they were selected 1 through 4 unfortunately. Not that ending up with Bubba is a bad thing, but he doesn't fit an immediate need. (Though he still has crazy upside, he's just pretty far away) Once again for the 2012 draft they really want a college or advanced prep arm that can contribute relatively soon. Fully expect them to end up with one of Appel, Gausman, Zimmer, or possibly Wacha. They need to get some pitching into the window that is starting to open as all of their position players arrive and develop. Though if they wanted, the Royals could assuredly deal Wil Myers for young, cost controlled, high upside pitching.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) I doubt it will happen, but I'd be excited if Sox draft Victor Roache. He put up Nintendo numbers last year when everyone else struggled with the new bats. If he stayed healthy this year, I doubt he could possibly fall to the Sox. If the Sox do their homework and are okay with his medicals I'd be fine with it.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) I think we say this every year after the draft, but with the way Stoney and Hawk talk about the draft, it's hard to fathom a situation where KW drafts a high school pitcher. I'm fine with this philosophy. I very much dislike the aversion to prep players. It very much limits the White Sox potential talent pool. Especially in a year like this one where the college crop is rather weak for position players. I'm encouraged by reports that Kenny is interested in Courtney Hawkins. With the CBA changes the premier high school players need to be drafted early or not all.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:25 PM) Based on KW's reaction to drafting Loux (or should I say passing on him), I can't see him taking Giolito. Nor can I. He will be seeking big money, and the risk of not signing him sucks as the slot amount is deducted from the total allocation if he walks.
