  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Oswalt is expected to get $7-9 million, that's pretty similar to Gavin's deal, and then there's the $9.5 million option on Floyd for 2013. It's not as simple as that. Since the White Sox aren't anywhere near paying a luxury tax, I don't know a damn thing about it. But people keep noting that Floyd's cap hit is only $3.75 million and they all seem to indicate he would fit and Oswalt would not. Some financial gymnastics going on. Some of it having to do with how Scutaro's deal was structured as well.
  2. Much speculation out there that with the Red Sox signing of Cody Ross at $3 million, Gavin is the primary target. Would fit within the luxury threshold where as it's unlikely Oswalt would. Just speculation though.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) If it's not rebuilding, it's certainly not building. As is, I see a team destined for third place. In between all the way.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) If the Sox suck this year, I hope KW is canned after the season. I mean he made a couple offseason deals, big deal. If this team makes no more moves, it on paper again is a contender. If the team sucks, it's on KW. Fire him if this team sucks. Now if he makes 3-4 more trades, I will change this post. Then he can't be judged on this season's crap product. The team will suck. They are rebuilding to an extent. There aren't any expectations this year. The results of the season are rather meaningless.
  5. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) Yep. It's clear Jerry is trying to be classy and take the high road regarding this situation. He wants to smooth things over before Ozzie is ripping Peavy in the media and vice versa. I'd wager he's just as sick of the Ozzie circus as we are, and he's trying to distance himself and his ballclub from it as best as possible. De Luca seems to agree: ChrisDeLuca Chris De Luca Looks like a preemptive strike by Reinsdorf to end potential nastiness with Ozzie. Looks like Jerry follows Oz on Twitter. #whitesox 5 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 05:17 PM) You do realize YOU have been saying for months that you believed Ozzie quit, right? And btw JR might have told him to go but it doesn't mean that he didn't quit way before that. Yep.
  7. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 04:49 PM) Resign Pierre and start him at lead off and in left field. I just threw up blood.
  8. Sickels did farm system rankings for the first time. Guess who's last? http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/1/23/2...kings-prospects
  9. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Great polish for age, but stuff isn't great. 4-5 starter. RT @IamEsteban: @Kevin_Goldstein What projection you have for Gerardo Concepcion? 33 seconds ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  10. Trade Gavin and Thornton. Sign Soler and Concepcion. Sign more IFA prospects before the CBA changes.
  11. The White Sox spend less on the draft than any team, but they invested $1.2 million in Mitchell as a 2009 first-round pick and gave rare (for them) above-slot bonuses to Thompson ($625,000 in the second round in 2009) and Walker ($795,000 in the sandwich round last year). All three are high-risk, high-reward prospects and their inability to make consistent contact could cause them all to go bust rather than boom. Thompson is the best bet to be a useful big leaguer, because he has the broadest base of tools. He may always strike out and never hit for a high average, but he has a lot more power potential than Mitchell or Walker. Thompson is an average runner with good instincts on the bases and in center field, and he has enough arm strength to be a legitimate right fielder. Walker has the speed to make an impact on the bases and in center field, but he's going to have to make significant strides with his on-base ability. Mitchell, who won national titles in baseball and football (as a wide receiver) at Louisiana State, is the best all-around athlete of the trio. But he hasn't been the same player since he tore a tendon in his left ankle when he ran into an outfield fence in the spring of 2010. Walker is the best defender of the three, followed by Mitchell and Thompson in that order. None of them is the top defensive outfielder in Chicago's system, however. That distinction belongs to Jordan Danks. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...12/2612849.html
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) Wow. I'm glad he's the Sox announcer. I think he's great. I think he's one of the worst parts of the White Sox organization. A rambling, idiotic, bellowing, cliched, unprofessional fool. I long for the day he's put out to pasture. It's a shame I have to miss out on Steve Stone because of how unbearable his partner is. Until then, I make use of MLB Gameday Audio and listen to opposing announcers who at least have more of a clue than Hawk.
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) Goldstein = worthless opinion I'd like to know how many times he's seen him pitch. Probably zero. He isn't a scout, and doesn't claim to be. He has plenty of scout sources and contacts that have seem him pitch though. It's how he gets much of his information. That's okay. Kevin isn't the minority in not thinking a whole lot of Terry Doyle.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) The same guy is still insisting Fielder is done. MLBInsideNews Scott Swaim Fielder to be in DC tonight to finalize deal. He might be right, but man go read his timeline from start to finish. He's wrong plenty of the time.
  15. Hawk actually being realistic and somewhat critical? Weird. He'll be back to the normal, awful, embarrasment of an announcer soon enough I'm sure.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 12:58 AM) Are you guys saying you are glad Mark is gone? How could anybody take that position? I'm glad the Sox extended Danks instead of Mark.

  18. QUOTE (daggins @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 10:09 PM) How long do you think KW can milk that particular cow? It is not an unfair assessment to say he has spent the last 5 years or so running the Sox into the ground. Agreed. I love Kenny for bringing us a World Series in 2005, but now what have you done for me lately?
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) At least Kyle Williams is trending on twitter, he's popular. I'm amused watching Twitter come to the realization that Kyle is Kenny's son. It's getting brutal.
  20. Maybe we get an angry Kenny Williams trade tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Gac is a Brave now. He's also a 25 year old that hasn't even touched AA yet.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) Eduardo Escobar and Tyler Kuhn make more sense than any of the four you said. Osvaldo Martinez too. Though I don't see Alexei being moved unless Kenny decides to do a full-on blow this s*** up rebuild. At this point in time I feel Kenny is standing pat. Though I hope Floyd is moved, at least at the deadline when the Sox are out of it.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) Basically, we'd just be saving $20 million total on Rios's deal and giving up Floyd to do so. No thanks. Plus 3 or 4 prospects he said. Boston wouldn't even consider it. It's asinine.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2012 -> 07:23 PM) Boston has nothing that would make me willing to take on that. Huh? You wouldn't take on $16 million of contracts that expire after this season to dump Rios? Boston is the team that would be way averse to such a deal.
