This has to mean we are rebuilding right?

Dave Martinez, White Sox Top Choice

Saladino not in the lineup again sadly. Short and Blanke playing with Doyle pitching though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) Wow. Marty got shot down. That is still way higher than I would expect. Agreed. I'm waiting to hear a response from those in the know around here. -

CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini I say at least $120 mil. Rumors of cost-cutting greatly exaggerated RT @Marty341: Where do you think next year's payroll will be? I say $95M 11 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply -
2011 ALDS Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees Thread

Was Ramon Santiago really sac bunting in the 1st against AJ f***ing Burnett? -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Factors that you and others are overlooking: 1) Martinez's wife is from Chicago. 2) White Sox organization is extremely loyal and Martinez is familiar with it. 3) Knows Kenny Williams well from his playing days with the Expos, most likely wouldn't know his potential boss with the Cub or Red Sox quite as well. 4) Less pressure to win immediately with White Sox than with Red Sox and probably Cubs, which could be a nice perk for a first-time manager. 5) Position should be available quickly and before others. There's more than money at play and the Sox can offer things other teams can't. Martinez also has a son attending Northwestern I believe.

Martin just took a 100 MPH fastball to the ribs. I laughed. -
Phegley has a wrist injury. Evidently, Blanke who was on the taxi squad will be taking his spot.

Chris Sale to be Moved to the Rotation in 2012
DirtySox replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Then we saw his offspeed stuff. I don't disagree. Was just sayin'. Loved the pick then, still do now. I just would have preferring him being stretched out during the 2011 season. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Mechanics, frame, etc. There was risk. Even if he has the stuff. The warning signs were there. I'm not going to make a stink about this now. But there's no letting the Sox off the hook if he ends up back in the bullpen. Many also had concerns about him reliably retiring right handed hitters due to his arm slot. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:11 PM) Perhaps. He will be a lot more dominant as a reliever than a starter, we already know that much. I would agree. A few days ago Goldstein tabbed him as a likely three with an outside shot of becoming a two. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) Wait a minute? Sale's FB is going to drop 4 MPH as a starter? I smell another failed White Sox 1st round pick if that happens. I don't know about 4 MPH, but a drop in velocity is very likely. Happens almost all the time when a pitcher has to sustain himself for a starter's workload. Conversely, many starters gain velocity when converted to relieving. Addison Reed for instance. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) Thats what they are doing. Teams dont need to "rebuild" especially when they actually have some decent already long term signed and (expensive)talent. They are dumping: Quentin Thornton Danks Floyd Pierre Castro Omar You are going to get young talent in return for Thornton, Danks, Floyd and Quentin, and you are injecting players from your system into starting roles. I'm okay with this. Somewhat like the Tigers did after the 09 season when trading Granderson and Edwin Jackson. Just at a larger scale and hopefully with a better return. I just hope whatever new organizational culture/philosophy that has been mentioned will include more of an investment in the minors, scouting, and the draft. In the long run it would ideally prevent situations like the one we are in now. -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) How is Phil "right"? The season doesn't start for 7 months....The "kids" are prospects he gets back for Danks, Floyd...etc. I hope Kenny isn't focusing only on acquiring near major league ready talent. I don't want him limiting himself. The system needs talent period, at all levels.

RT pgammo Ken Williams says "we're going to let the kids play," will know what they have in mid-season, young culture coming 1 minute ago Phil is right for once. Absolutely. I assume the kids will be Dayan, Flowers, Sale, Stewart, Reed, Escobar, and a pen arm or two.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) There's guys who are type A that are worth far less in value. I think we should offer Buehrle arb. Indeed. He will probably be the only Elias ranked free agent that the Sox offer arbitration too. I want them to offer Frasor, but I can't see it happening.
