  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) As Rongey keeps saying, Adam Dunn won't come out of his slump sitting on the bench. Mitchell...if he succeeds in the AFL again, might be exactly the impetus he needs. If he fails and is that psychologically fragile, maybe he wasn't the type of player they thought he was coming out of LSU. We'll see. It's the same argument with playing Brent Morel everyday in Chicago or AAA. At some point, they have to produce at the next level. I'm not against Mitchell playing in the AFL, but the justification that we need to see how he'll fare against some of the best pitching prospects in baseball is silly. He's nowhere near that level of player at this point in time. The gap is substantial. The reason he should play in the AFL or in any type off-season ball is that he has some big deficiencies in his game that need repetitions and playing time to correct.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) Wonder if Shirek will get a look in September? Possibly. Who's K. Thompson? Just joking...you had a ton of names to write there, maybe you were combining Keenyn and Trayce. God, we really need Mitchell or Thompson to show something these final 3 weeks to give some renewed hope for 2012. I'm guessing we'll see Mitchell in the AFL again, won't we? If his injury has healed 100%, there's no reason not to get a better gauge on him against some of the best pitching prospects in the minors. Let's see exactly where he stands. When Mitchell is already striking out at a near 33% rate in High-A, one shouldn't be clamoring to see him face some of the best pitching in baseball. I will assume that most already know this, but strikeout rates for players with contact issues typically don't improve upon facing better competition at higher levels. I'm not against Jared playing in the AFL, but it should be merely to get more reps and to work on the glaring red flag that is his strikeout problem.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Sale looked like a real closer. I'd rather him look like a real starter. Ozzie stated he doesn't want him starting though.
  5. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) So we are back to a 6 man rotation. I don't mind the move as we get to see Stewart and see how good he is. I'm not that high on Stewart, but it will be interesting to see what he features.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) And that's the rotation of a 5th place team in the AL Central. That's like 4 guys who probably would really struggle to get into the 7th inning. So be it.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) Floyd Peavy Humber Sale ? That's awful Stewart? I'm okay with it being awful though. This team needs to a down year or 3 to rebuild a bit.
  8. I'm so disgusted that Kenny didn't sell at the deadline. f*** this team.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) Here comes a hit to LF to tie the game You're good.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 5, 2011 -> 02:12 PM) Tony Campana = very, very, very fast Indeed. But Alonso didn't help himself by overrunning the ball, bumping into the wall, and almost falling over as the ball rolled behind him.
  11. Yonder Alonso just showing his defensive deficiencies against the Cubs horribly misplaying a single/double into an inside the park homerun. Dude needs a team with an open 1B spot.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) Andy Wilkins hasn't played in a while. I wonder what the issue is there.... Sore knee.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 11:25 PM) His stats are mind boggling. It's hard to get overly excited about a reliever though. Indeed. I'm a prospect guy though, and I'm all Dayan-ed out at this point.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) You're right. It's not all on Bell. I'm just saying him in place over Laumann has generated nothing to this point. Buddy Bell didn't replace Laumann. Laumann is the Director of Amateur Scouting and Bell is the Director of Player Development. But yes, it's hard to make an accurate assessment of how either have performed in my mind as I would argue they are very limited in their allotted resources.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) For all those interested: 1. HOU 37-74 2. BAL 43-65 7.5 3. CHC 47-65 9.5 4. SDP 48-64 10.5 5. KCR 48-63 11 6. SEA 48-62 11.5 7. OAK 49-62 12 8. LAD 50-60 13.5 9. COL 51-60 14 10 MIN 51-59 14.5 11 CHW 52-58 15.5 12 WAS 53-57 16.5 13 CIN 54-57 17 14 PIT 54-56 17.5 15 FLA 55-56 18 16 NYM 55-55 18.5 We're closer to the #3 pick in the draft than we are the playoffs. I'm just hoping the team doesn't go on a surge upon being eliminated from playoff contention. We all know Ozzie doesn't like to play the kids, even when his opponents all are. I will just keep my fingers crossed that they fall in the top 15 and get a protected pick.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) None. Peavy was a salary dump. So I don't want to hear how Poreda helped net us a fake ace at the time. Beckham? lol. Morel? lol. Mitchell? Again, lol. Sale? Dynamite stuff. Looks like a reliever long-term. And I didn't forget about Hudson. But I don't want to become enraged. I'm still not sure all blame should be dumped on Bell. Even blaming Laumann I feel is a reach. According to someone I trust, the White Sox scouting infrastructure is woefully inadequate. Couple that with an owner that is one of most stingy in draft spending and has a significant hand in early draft selections and It seems like the process is set to fail right from the start. Jerry is far too hands on in this regard according to most of the Chicago beat guys.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) I really think we can get into the 5-7 range If so I pray hard slotting is introduced before the 2012 draft.
  18. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) Guillen's time is up, no doubt about it. However, the idea that him continuing to bat Dunn clean up is holding this team back is ridiculous. Nothing Guillen has done has damaged this team as much as Dave Wilder, KW's best friend, being indicted. In fact, if you make a list of the five most damaging moves to this franchise since 2005 ALL of them would be on Williams. Hi Joe. You forgot to meet your "Hollywood" quota in this post.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Perhaps they can finish above .500, like 83-79, but they'll still finish well behind the Tigers. Agreed. I like what they have going forward too, which is why I spent my Sox money on a trip to Cleveland this year. Kipnis, Chisenhall, Masteron, Santana, Assdrubal, etc. I was a bit disappointed in them trading White and Pomeranz though. I'm real high on Pom.
  20. Hawk with another dig at Ozzie regarding Morel's playing time.
  21. He doesn't have much of a third pitch, and by this point it's apparent the Sox don't think he would be an effective starter. He has the chance to be a very good high leverage relief pitcher though. He's certainly a candidate to be called up at anytime really. I'd have no qualms if he replaced Bruney. I also wouldn't mind if he's allowed to hone his craft the rest of the year in the minors.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) I'm already probing the potential class of 2012. Of course, this class doesn't appear to be nearly as talented as the '11 class. I hope you are filtering the college pitchers who will sign easily at slot value.
  23. 6 more outs until this team has gone 4 straight games without taking a walk. I'm on the edge of my seat.
  24. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) Did I just hear Hawk say Walker was a good hitting coach?!?... I wish Samsung would invest in some "Mute Hawk Harrelson" technology for their TV line.
  25. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) Addison Reed is a machine sent from the future to crush the dreams of minor league hitters. I'm pretty excited about him. The superlatives describing his stuff have been encouraging to say the least.
