QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Cofield was one of six players in the Braves organization who played in the AFL. Apparently he has a good body type and nice velocity. Cox has liked him dating back to 2007/2008. This isn't a bad deal, especially if there is no salary involved. I wonder what he did in the AFL. He pitched one inning in the AFL.

Cofield seems to be a marginal relief prospect. Nothing too exciting. Though getting anything for Linebrink is a win. http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/11/26/1837...r-prospects-1-5

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) The more 1B Dunn plays the less for our backup first basemen Viciedo. He needs to find ABs too. If Paulie resigns, I'd wager Viciedo is traded in the near future. Even if the Sox do hold on to Dayan, he needs to work in the minors on many of his glaring deficiencies.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) Speaking of Mitchell, what can we expect from him this season? Is he a potential September call up or is he still a year or 2 away? I don't follow the minors as closely as I should. Maybe more then 2 years away. He missed all of last season and was horrible in the AFL. He obviously gets a pass because of his time off the field and having surgery, but it isn't time to be penciling him for anything yet. This coming season will be very telling in that regard.

Yuck. Hopefully the decline stops. Would be much more palatable at 1 year or 1 and an option.

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays
DirtySox replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Easy people, it says in there WAS close to signing with BlueJays. Doesn't mean it's happening. Besides it's Cowley. Yea. The fact that Cowley buried it in his Dunn article and noone else is reporting it makes me wary. I have no problem with him signing elsewhere though. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) I was just looking at Bill James projections on FanGraphs... They really like Morel and Flowers...apparently. They have Morel at a .339 wOBA and Flowers at a .352. Quentin's at a .362, Dunn at .383, Lee at .367. Beckham at .338, Rios at .343. That is one hell of a lineup if this comes into fruition. Bill James is always super optimistic with his projections for some reason.

Supposedly Baltimore has offered a significant deal to PK.

Sox claim P Waldis Joaquin off of waivers from SF

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) Floyd is a MUCH more valuable asset than he's getting credit for here. This. Floyd has tons of surplus value.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Francisco bats lefty and would be better power-wise than Stewart. He also would be a butcher at 3rd. By most accounts he is likely to be stashed away in LF or at 1B. Juan Francisco just isn't a very good prospect unless he learns some plate discipline. He doesn't have many assets other than his power potential.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) Would the Reds trade Juan Francisco? He would be quite redundant with Dayan already in the system. 2 Power hitting prospects with no plate discipline and marginal defensive value. I don't find him all that desirable.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Stewart has huge potential and the Sox could use power at 3B. The Sox unload critical dollars in this deal and acquire affordable, quality MLB players to lock in for the future. They could take that savings and move to sign PK, Dunn or perhaps Pena or LaRoche if they'd like to invest in pitching. Fowler -CF Ramirez - SS Rios - RF PK/Pena/Dunn (?)- 1B Quentin - DH Stewart/Morel-3B (platoon R/L) Beckham - 2B Flowers/Castro Pierre I like it. It's alright I suppose. I just don't think it's best utilization of Floyd's trade value. For a team that is supposedly rather strapped for cash, why would you trade for a 3B when it's one of the only spots that you could reasonably fill internally? Granted I don't have any alternative trade proposition, but I'd rather acquire a C or RF (Quentin to DH) through trade and let Morel handle the hot corner.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) The Denver Post has twice this week referenced Floyd to COL. Both times they have also mentioned that the Sox have asked about Ian Stewart. The Rockies need starting pitching and they likely aren't resigning De La Rosa. "The White Sox would be willing to discuss trading Floyd, and Renck says the Sox have asked the Rockies about Ian Stewart. Colorado doesn't currently have a third baseman who could replace Stewart, but as Renck reported earlier, the club has interest in a handful of players who could handle the hot corner. The White Sox "like Ian Stewart," Renck said in regards to rumors from earlier in the week that Chicago and Colorado had at least discussed swapping the third baseman for Floyd. Stewart would give the Sox some left-handed pop, possibly in a third base platoon with Dayan Viciedo. " I'm suggesting: Gavin Floyd Teahan Escobar The Rockies get quality pitching, versatility & defense. Gavin would be their #2 right away. Teahan is a good fit in COL and Escobar's value likely won't get much higher than right now. for Ian Stewart Dexter Fowler The Sox unload Teahan's contract, get more versatile, younger & faster by acquiring controlled talent in Fowler & Stewart. Fowler is switch-hitting gazelle in CF that projects as a lead off hitter for years to come (moving Pierre to 9...). Stewart has always hit for average in the minors and improved his hitting in 2010. He hits for power from the left side and has untapped potential. (Baseball America had him ranked the No. 4 prospect in the minors, behind only Felix Hernandez, Joe Mauer and Delmon Young a few years back.) This rumor baffles me. Why are the Sox enamored with Stewart? Is it because he's left handed? He's not a terrible source of power I guess, but he is a rather pedestrian fielder and he is entering arbitration already. He's been a 1 to 1.5 fWAR player thus far as well. Do the Sox think he's going to break out? I guess I don't understand why the Sox wouldn't just give Morel a shot and try and acquire a RF/C/1B via trade instead. I do love Fowler though. Give.

There is a 99% chance he is non-tendered. Much can be inferred from Kenny's comments on him.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) Didn't he crash into the wall a few times there too? That always seems to give people the misconception of good fielding and elevates a player's status. Indeed. As does diving for balls and matching catches that someone with normal range could get to standing up. See Jermaine Dye.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) According to Mark Gonzales of the Trib, The Sox did have discussions with Martinez's agent, but they never made a formal to their camp. Is there a source for this or did you ask him directly?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) The latest reports seem to indicate he has in fact signed with the Tigers? Yep.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) I hate how Phil Rogers does the chat every year. Can't someone from BA actually do it? He shouldn't be compiling the list period. Phil Rogers is horrible.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Sox should try to get Yonder Alonso. Give me one of Mesoraco or Grandal. A legitimate catching prospect would be nice.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 21, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Which means we are definitely going to offer him arb, right? Offering Putz arbitration has no downside. It's definitely going to happen. Konerko is pretty much in the same boat. AJ is a good shot as well, especially after Buck received a 3yr/16 million contract. I don't see much downside in having 1 more year of AJ at market value or receiving draft picks if he declines.
-
Contreras and Buck have both signed as well.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) I think a more realistic package would be something like Fowler, Ianetta, and maybe a bullpen arm for Floyd and a couple B level spects. No kidding. Not a fan of Stewart at all. Let Morel handle 3B.
